Risk Analysis of Container Ship Accidents and Risk Mitigation Measures

  • The study performs a risk analysis on container ship accidents using accident data collected over the six years from 2006 to 2011, presents the resulting risk level, and suggests three risk mitigation measures to reduce the overall risk, for the safer operation of container ships. More specifically, starting from the initial accident of collision, we developed 13 different accident scenarios using event tree analysis based on which the overall risk level was obtained and presented as a FN curve. Since diverse human factors are the main cause of most of the ship accidents, our study focuses on the effect of reducing human causes on the resulting risk level. For the research we considered the injuries for the calculation of fatality with the help of MAIS. The results show that collision was the main type of accident, accounting for 62 % of all accidents, and the measures employed were proven to be effective in the sense that the risk level was much lowered and the average number of fatalities was also reduced. With more data accumulated, more precise risk level will be calculated with which the practical risk mitigating measures will be also developed. For future study, economic loss and environmental damage as consequences need to be considered.

소음지도를 활용한 환경소음 관리계획 수립 (Establishment on Management Plan of Environmental Noise with Noise Map)

  • The objective of this study is to prepare the effective management plan of environmental noise with a noise map, and the guideline on the management plan of environmental noise was suggested through the review of existing application examples. The management plan of environmental noise with a noise map includes the practical contents in the stages of subdivision of management areas, establishment of reduction measures, opinion collection, post investigation, and reformulation of management plan. First, the classification of management regions is performed considering the excess degree of noise standard and the facility type in the phase of subdivision of management areas. Second, the optimal management plan is established through the investigation of regional characteristics and various noise reduction measures in the phase of establishment of reduction measures, which includes the examination of noise reduction effects with a noise map and the budget planning with the costing of noise reduction measures. Third, the opinion survey with a local resident and a expert is carried out in order to prove the validity of the management plan in the phase of opinion collection, and the management plan is modified with gathered opinions. Fourth, the post examination plan with noise measurement is performed in order to verify the real effect of noise reduction measures according to the management plan in the phase of post investigation. Finally, the amendment of the management plan as well as the improvement of a noise map is carried out at a regular cycle in the phase of reformulation of management plan.

Optimal Placement of Sensors and Actuators Using Measures of Modal Controllability and Observability in a Balanced Coordinate

  • In this paper, a method for optimal placement of sensors and actuators is presented by using new measures of modal controllability and observability defined in a balanced coordinate system. The proposed new measures are shown to have a great advantage in practical use when they are used as criteria for selecting the locations of sensors and actuators, since the most controllable and observable locations can be obtained to be identical. In addition, they are more accurate than the measures of Hamdan and Nayfeh in that the effects of the eigenvector norm are considered into the magnitude of measures. In simulations, to verify the effectiveness of the proposed measures and optimal placement method, the closed-loop response of a simply supported flexible beam, in which the number and locations of actuators are determined by using the proposed measures and optimal placement method, has been examined and compared with the case of Hamdan and Nayfeh’s measures.

Accuracy Measures of Empirical Bayes Estimator for Mean Rates

  • The outcomes of counts commonly occur in the area of disease mapping for mortality rates or disease rates. A Poisson distribution is usually assumed as a model of disease rates in conjunction with a gamma prior. The small area typically refers to a small geographical area or demographic group for which very little information is available from the sample surveys. Under this situation the model-based estimation is very popular, in which the auxiliary variables from various administrative sources are used. The empirical Bayes estimator under Poissongamma model has been considered with its accuracy measures. An accuracy measure using a bootstrap samples adjust the underestimation incurred by the posterior variance as an estimator of true mean squared error. We explain the suggested method through a practical dataset of hitters in baseball games. We also perform a Monte Carlo study to compare the accuracy measures of mean squared error.

Using User Rating Patterns for Selecting Neighbors in Collaborative Filtering

  • Collaborative filtering is a popular technique for recommender systems and used in many practical commercial systems. Its basic principle is select similar neighbors of a current user and from their past preference information on items the system makes recommendations for the current user. One of the major problems inherent in this type of system is data sparsity of ratings. This is mainly caused from the underlying similarity measures which produce neighbors based on the ratings records. This paper handles this problem and suggests a new similarity measure. The proposed method takes users rating patterns into account for computing similarity, without just relying on the commonly rated items as in previous measures. Performance experiments of various existing measures are conducted and their performance is compared in terms of major performance metrics. As a result, the proposed measure reveals better or comparable achievements in all the metrics considered.

  • For studying this project, we selected a 2-storied detached house as a sample which was constructed in July 1976, the last year of the 3rd 5-years economic and social development plan and also the middle year between the years of the 1st oil crisis and the 2nd oil crisis, located In Gayang-dong, Daejeon City. The contents and scope of this project was to produce retrofit measures by theoretically analyzing the building energy use between both of pre-retrofit and post-retrofit conditions of this sample house, and to compare and analyze the predicated data with experimented data under post - retrofit condition. It is suggested in this report that we have to develop rational and practical retrofit measures for energy conservations in existing residences.

임상실습을 경험한 간호 대학생이 지각하는 실습 교육환경, 실습 스트레스가 학과 적응에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Practical Education Environment And Practical Stress Perceived by Nursing College Students who have Experienced Clinical Practice on Department Adaptation)

  • 본 연구는 임상실습을 경험한 간호대학생이 지각하는 실습교육환경과 실습 스트레스가 학과 적응에 미치는 영향을 확인하고자 시도되었다. 연구대상은 C지역의 간호대학에서 임상실습을 경험한 간호학생 154명을 대상으로 하였다. 연구결과 간호대학생이 지각하는 실습교육환경과 학과적응은 양의 상관관계가 있었고(r=.43, p=.001), 실습스트레스와 학과적응은 음의 상관관계(r=-.15, p=.012)가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 간호대학생들의 학과적응에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 실습 교육환경과 실습 스트레스로 확인되었다. 따라서 실습교육환경을 긍정적으로 개선하기 위해 현장 실습 적응에 도움을 줄 수 있는 관련 요인들을 지속적으로 훈련하고, 실습기관과 유기적 협력을 통해 실습교육환경을 개선하기 위한 방안 마련이 필요함을 제언한다.

중국 상사중재에서의 임시적 처분 조치에 관한 연구 (A Study on Interim Measures of Commercial Arbitration in China)

  • 국제상사중재에서 중재판정을 효율적으로 집행하기 위해 중재판정부가 중재판정을 내리기 전에 분쟁 당사자의 권리 혹은 재산을 즉각적으로 보호해주는 임시적 처분조치는 반드시 필요한 제도이고 많은 국가에서 중재판정부가 임시적 처분조치를 내릴 수 있도록 하고 있다. 중국상사중재에서도 임시적 처분조치를 인정하고는 있으나 중국의 경우에는 그 절차상 법원의 개입이 반드시 필요한데 이는 국제중재의 발전 방향과 맞지 않는다는 비판이 있다. 하지만 최근 중국도 중재활성화 측면에서 주요 중재기관들의 규칙을 개정함으로써 임시적 처분조치 부분에서 법원의 간섭을 최소화하는 방향으로 변화를 추구하고 있다. 이에 본 논문은 상사중재에서 임시적 처분의 국제적 추세를 먼저 살펴보고 중국 상사중재에서 임시적 처분조치가 어떤 방향으로 발전해 나가는지를 관련 사례와 법규를 분석하여 살펴보고자 한다. 이러한 연구를 통하여 한국 기업이 중국기업과 상사중재로 분쟁을 해결하고자 할 때 어떤 방식으로 임시적 처분 제도를 활용해야 하는지에 대한 실무적인 시사점을 제시하고자 한다.

치과기공사 실기시험 개선에 관한 조사 연구 II (The Study on the improvement of dental technician practical examination II)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the improvement measures of dental technician practical examinations. Methods: A survey was performed on 37 professors through a questionnaire. The results were analyzed by SPSS 12.0. The collected data was analyzed by frequency and the chi-square test. Results: The education compared to the satisfaction of practice examinations only differs in the method of enforcement(p<.05). The evaluations on the ability to perform the job with practical subjects were inadequate (37.8%). Questions with the most necessary work tools through the articulator was highest at 48.7%, Electric wax carver was 32.4%, and heating clear was 3.5%. Conclusion: There must be an improvement to increase the cooperation within the clinical department, while considering the practical exam environment.

환율 변동성 측정과 GARCH모형의 적용 : 실용정보처리접근법 (Exchange Rate Volatility Measures and GARCH Model Applications : Practical Information Processing Approach)

  • This paper reviews the categories and properties of risk measures, analyzes the classes and structural equations of volatility forecasting models, and presents the practical methodologies and their expansion methods of estimating and forecasting the volatilities of exchange rates using Excel spreadsheet modeling. We apply the GARCH(1,1) model to the Korean won(KRW) denominated daily and monthly exchange rates of USD, JPY, EUR, GBP, CAD and CNY during the periods from January 4, 1998 to December 31, 2009, make the estimates of long-run variances in the returns of exchange rate calculated as the step-by-step change rate, and test the adequacy of estimated GARCH(1,1) model using the Box-Pierce-Ljung statistics Q and chi-square test-statistics. We demonstrate the adequacy of GARCH(1,1) model in estimating and forecasting the volatility of exchange rates in the monthly series except the semi-variance GARCH(1,1) applied to KRW/JPY100 rate. But we reject the adequacy of GARCH(1,1) model in estimating and forecasting the volatility of exchange rates in the daily series because of the very high Box-Pierce-Ljung statistics in the respective time lags resulting to the self-autocorrelation. In conclusion, the GARCH(1,1) model provides for the easy and helpful tools to forecast the exchange rate volatilities and may become the powerful methodology to overcome the application difficulties with the spreadsheet modeling.
