  • Data failure in wireless communications considerably affects the reconstruction quality of transmitted data. Traditionally, fascinating trials have been conducted to overcome the data failure intensifying reliable reconstruction of a media. But, none of these efforts neither effective, computationally inexpensive nor simply configurable to reduce the problems of transmitting media or images. In practice, it is necessary to maintain the quality of transmitted image without sacrificing any data, content, or information. So, to deal with dynamic events such as sensor node participation and departure, during transmission, an efficient scheme is important. For this reason, a new robust scheme has been presented in this paper to minimize the limitation of traditional wireless networking. This scheme uses Software-Defined Image Sensor Network (SD-ISN) to ensure scalability and dependability of the sensor network of handling data losses. Finally, a comparison of our proposed SD-ISN with conventional wireless networking has been presented in simulation to test the robustness and effectiveness of our proposed SD-ISN approach.

  • The national product identifier(NPI) currently used in the national product asset management system does not accommodate ISO or EPC standards due to the limitation of tag memory. For this reason, we propose a new NPI which accommodates not only ISO item identification standards but also the memory capacity of ISO tags. First of all, memory structures of ISO/IEC 18000-6C and EPC tags are analyzed from the view point of product identifier structure. Second, ISO/IEC 15459 and EPC identification standards as item identifier structures for the product asset management are analyzed. Third, based on these analyses, the NPI used for the current RFID-based product asset management system is analyzed and its problems are presented. Finally, a new NPI structure is proposed suitable for ISO/IEC 18000-6C and ISO/IEC 15459.

  • This paper presents a pulse-width adjustment (PWA) strategy for a novel bidirectional DC-DC boost converter to improve the performance of the dynamic inductor current response. This novel converter consists of three main components: a full-bridge converter (FBC), a high-frequency isolated transformer with large leakage inductance, and a three-level voltage-doubler rectifier (VDR). A number of scholars have analyzed the principles, such as the soft-switching performance and high-efficiency characteristic, of this converter based on pulse-width modulation plus phase-shift (PPS) control. It turns out that this converter is suitable for energy storage applications and exhibits good performance. However, the dynamic inductor current response processes of control variable adjustment is not analyzed in this converter. In fact, dc component may occur in the inductor current during its dynamic response process, which can influence the stability and reliability of the converter system. The dynamic responses under different operating modes of a conventional feedforward control are discussed in this paper. And a PWA strategy is proposed to enhance the dynamic inductor current response performance of the converter. This paper gives a detailed design and implementation of the PWA strategy. The proposed strategy is verified through a series of simulation and experimental results.

  • Surface roughening which is occurred by interaction between base paper and water in coating color deteriorates surface properties of coated paper. In this study, the effect of calendering variables on surface roughening and the relationship between hot calendering and water penetration depth were investigated. BCTMP handsheets were calendered at the various conditions of temperature and linear load, and its PPS roughness was measured before and after moistening to evaluate surface roughening. To determine water penetration depth, thickness was measured from the cross sectional images of sheet which were obtained using CLSM technique. High pressure calendering was beneficial to reduce surface roughness before coating but its smoothening effect was mostly lost by contact with water. On the contrary, sheet calendered at the highest temperature showed the lowest roughening. High temperature calendering allowed the smallest penetration of water into fiber network because of sufficient deformation and densification in top side of z-direction of sheet. Consequently, hot calendering could be the effective way to reduce surface roughening and unevenness of paper surface.

  • A power supply for magnetic-stimulation devices was designed via a control algorithm that involved a start current application based on a resonant converter. In this study, a new power supply for magnetic-stimulation devices was designed by controlling the pulse repetition frequency and pulse width. The power density could be controlled using the start-current-compensation and ZCS (zero-current switching) resonant converter. The results revealed a high-repetition-frequency, high-power magnetic-stimulation device. It was found that the stimulation coil current pulse width and that pulse repetition frequency could be controlled within the range of 200-450 ${\mu}S$ and 200-900 pps, respectively. The magnetic-stimulation device in this study consisted of a stimulation coil device and a power supply system. The maximum power of the stimulation coil from one discharge was 130 W, which was increased to 260 W using an additional reciprocating discharge. The output voltage was kept stable in a sinusoidal waveform regardless of the load fluctuations by forming voltage and current control using a deadbeat controller without increasing the current rating at the starting time. This paper describes this magnetic-stimulation device to which the start current was applied.

  • Vital area identification (VAI) is an essential procedure for the design of physical protection systems (PPSs) for nuclear power plants (NPPs). The purpose of PPS design is to protect vital areas. VAI has been improved continuously to overcome the shortcomings of previous VAI generations. In first-generation VAI, a sabotage fault tree was developed directly without reusing probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) results or information. In second-generation VAI, VAI model was constructed from all PSA event trees and fault trees. While in third-generation VAI, it was developed from the simplified PSA event trees and fault trees. While VAIs have been performed for NPPs in full-power operations, VAI for NPPs in low-power and shutdown (LPSD) operations has not been studied and performed, even though NPPs in LPSD operations are very vulnerable to sabotage due to the very crowded nature of NPP maintenance. This study is the first to research and apply VAI to LPSD operation of NPP. Here, the third-generation VAI method for full-power operation of NPP was adapted to the VAI of LPSD operation. In this study, LPSD VAI for a few plant operational states (POSs) was performed. Furthermore, the operation strategy of vital areas for both full-power and LPSD operations was discussed. The LPSD VAI method discussed in this paper can be easily applied to all POSs. The method and insights in this study can be important for future LPSD VAI that reflects various LPSD operational states. Regulatory bodies and electric utilities can take advantage of this LPSD VAI method.

  • High-efficient HEV Engine cooling systems reflects variable coolant temperature because it can decrease the hydrodynamic frictional losses of lubricated engine parts in light duty conditions. In order to safely raise the operating temperature of passenger cars to a constant higher level, and thus optimize combustion and all accompanying factors, a new thermostat technology was developed : the electronically map-controlled thermostat. In this work, various crystalline plastics such as polyphthalamide (PPA) and polyphenylenesulfide (PPS) mixed with various glass fiber amounts were introduced into plastic fittings of automotive electronic controlled thermostat for the purpose of suppressing influx of coolant into the element and undesirable opening during hot soaking. Skirt was installed around element frame of automotive electronic controlled thermostat for improving thermal sensitivity in terms of response time, hysteresis and melting temperature. To validate the effectiveness and optimum shape of skirt, thermal sensitivity test and three-dimensional CFD simulation have been performed. As a consequence, important improvement in thermal sensitivity with less than 3℃ of maximum coolant temperature between opening and engine inlet was obtained.

  • In the present work, we determined the gamma-ray attenuation characteristics of eight different polymers(Polyamide (Nylon 6) (PA-6), polyacrylonitrile (PAN), polyvinylidenechloride (PVDC), polyaniline (PANI), polyethyleneterephthalate (PET), polyphenylenesulfide (PPS), polypyrrole (PPy) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)) using transmission geometry utilizing the high resolution HPGe detector and different radioactive sources in the energy range 81-1333 keV. The experimental linear attenuation coefficient values are compared with theoretical data (WinXCOM data). The linear attenuation coefficient of all polymers reduced quickly with the increase in energy, at the beginning, while decrease more slowly in the region from 267 keV to 835 keV. The effective atomic number of PVDC and PTFE are comparatively higher than the $Z_{eff}$ of the remaining polymers, while PA-6 possesses the lowest effective atomic number. The half value layer results showed that PTFE ($C_2F_4$, highest density) is more effective to attenuate the gamma photons. Also, the theoretical results of macroscopic effective removal cross section for fast neutrons ($\sum_{R}$) were computed to investigate the neutron attenuation characteristics. It is found that the $\sum_{R}$ values of the eight investigated polymers are close and ranged from $0.07058cm^{-1}$ for PVDC to $0.11510cm^{-1}$ for PA-6.

  • Common Criteria(CC, ISO/IEC 15408) is an international standard for evaluation of Information Suity Systems(ISS). There need a suitable evidence of estimation of evaluation cost in an evaluation facility under the CC-based evaluation and assurance scheme. In this paper, we propose an evaluation effort model, which is based not only on assurance-level but also on product-type of ISS, by means of real experience of real evaluators, use-ratio concept and the Function Point of security function. The model is based not on a real evaluation environment of evaluation facility, but on CC, public PPs and product specific STs. Our result might be used as a basic model for estimation of evaluation cost and time of ISS in an CC-based evaluation and assurance scheme.

  • Recently, network based DDoS attacks have been changed into application layer DDoS attacks which are targeted at the web services. Specially, an attacker makes zombie PCs generate small traffic and its traffic pattern has been similar to the normal user's pattern. So, existing HTTP PPS based Threshold cannot defend the DDoS attacks effectively. In this paper, we displayed all the GET Flooding attack types and propose three DDoS attack defense mechanisms which are simple and very powerful. Proposed mechanisms can defend all the existing GET Flooding DDoS attacks and be deployed in the real environment immediately with little resource consumption.
