  • In mobile ad-hoc wireless networks, one of the most important challenging issues is how to conserve energy, maximizing the lifetime of route(networks) in the view points of both power and mobility of nodes. However, many transmission methods presented in the previous works can not satisfy these two objectives simultaneously. To obtain these two goals, in this paper we propose an architecture to support power saving transmission services with route stability in mobile ad-hoc wireless networks. The proposed architecture consists of two parts, the underlying route stability method to support route(network) lifetime and the power saving transmission methods. The performance evaluation of the proposed architecture is achieved via simulation and analysis.

  • Recently, with the development of IoT technology and the increase of energy consumption, interest in energy saving and energy efficiency improvement is rapidly increasing. In particular, in the case of a device connected to a power plug with the power shutoff, a problem with standby power has been raised. Thus technology development through a low power method such as Zigbee is in progress. However, Zigbee, which is generally used, has a problem that a separate gateway is required because it is not an IP-based technology, and there is a problem that it is not suitable for a traditional computer network to which a variety of devices are connected. Therefore, in this paper, we designed and implemented a standby power saving system using MQTT, an IoT standard protocol, in Z-Wave environment. In order to evaluate the implemented standby power saving system, the same environment as the existing Zigbee-based standby power saving system was compared and evaluated.

  • In this research, the electric power consumptions of the electrical machinery and appliances selected in the Seoul division of Korea Electrical Safety Corporation were measured. The power-saving efficiency was investigated by comparing the amounts of the reserved electric power when the Saver was on or off through measuring that of the reserved electric power before and after equipping the selected appliances with the Saver, a cutoff of the reserved electric power. As a result, the power-saving efficiency was around 18% when the Saver was installed. It can be ascribed to the removal of the source wasting electrical energy. Furthermore, by blocking the reserved electric power, the electric fire can be originally prevented and also the life time of the electrical machinery and appliances can be postponed.

  • A discontinuous reception (DRX) operation is included in the Long Term Evolution (LTE) system to achieve power saving and prolonged battery life of the user equipment. An improvement in DRX power saving usually leads to a potential increase in the packet delay. An optimum DRX configuration depends on the current traffic, which is not easy to estimate accurately, particularly for non-real-time applications. In this paper, we propose a novel way to vary the DRX cycle length, avoiding a continuous estimation of the data traffic when only non-real-time applications are running with no active real-time applications. Because a small delay in non-real-time traffic does not essentially impact the user's experience adversely, we deliberately allow a limited amount of delay in our proposal to attain a significant improvement in power saving. Our proposal also improves the delay in service resumption after a long period of inactivity. We use a stochastic analysis assuming an M/G/1 queue to validate this improvement.

  • The mobile radio networks can be divided into networks that has the base station or the infrastructures like AP(Access Point) and Ad Hoc network that hasn't any infrastructures. As there aren't any fixed infrastructures in Ad Hoc Networks, mobile nodes should transmit the data only among mobile nodes themselves. To supplement these weakpoints of the two networks, many studies about Ad Hocs based on the 802.11 are in progress. In this thesis, we try to propose the efficiency of the suggested protocols by comparing and analyzing power saving protocols according to the Beacon intervals in multi hop Ad Hoc Networks based on IEEE 802.11.

  • Power-efficient base station (BS) operation is one of the important issues in future green cellular networks. Previously well-known BS operation schemes, the cell zooming scheme and the cell wilting and blossoming scheme, require tight cooperation between cells in cellular networks. With the previous schemes, the non-cooperative BSs of a serving cell and neighboring cells could cause coverage holes between the cells, thereby seriously degrading the quality of service as well as the power saving efficiency of the cellular networks. In this paper, we propose a novel power-efficient BS operation scheme for green downlink heterogeneous cellular networks, in which the networks virtually adjust the coverage of a serving macrocell (SM) and neighboring macrocells (NMs) without adjusting the transmission power of the BSs when the SM is lightly loaded, and the networks turn off the BS of the SM when none of active users are associated with the SM. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme significantly improves the power saving efficiency without degrading the quality of service (e.g., system throughput) of a downlink heterogeneous LTE network and outperforms the previous schemes in terms of system throughput and power saving efficiency. In particular, with the proposed scheme, macrocells are able to operate independently without the cooperation of a SM and NMs for green heterogeneous cellular networks.

  • This paper presents a novel soft-switching PWM utility frequency AC to high frequency AC power conversion circuit incorporating boost-half-bridge inverter topology, which is more suitable and acceptable for cost effective consumer induction heating applications. The operating principle and the operation modes are presented using the switching mode and the operating voltage and current waveforms. The performances of this high-frequency inverter using the latest IGBTs are illustrated, which includes high frequency power regulation and actual efficiency characteristics based on zero voltage soft switching (ZVS) operation ranges and the power dissipation as compared with those of the previously developed high-frequency inverter. In addition, a dual mode control scheme of this high frequency inverter based on asymmetrical pulse width modulation (PWM) and pulse density modulation (PDM) control scheme is discussed in this paper in order to extend the soft switching operation ranges and to improve the power conversion efficiency at the low power settings. The power converter practical effectiveness is substantially proved based on experimental results from practical design example.

  • In this paper, a DC smoothing filterless soft switching pulse modulated high frequency AC power conversion circuit connected to utility. frequency AC power source is proposed for consumer induction heating hot water producer, steamer and super heated steamer. The operating principle of DC link filterless utility frequency AC-high frequency AC (HF AC) power conversion circuit defined as high frequency cycloinverter is described, which can operate under a principle of ZVS/AVT and power regulation based on alternate asymmetrical PWM in synchronization with the utility frequency single phase AC positive or negative half wave voltage. The dual mode modulation control scheme based on high frequency PWM and commercial frequency AC voltage PDM for the proposed high frequency cycloinverter are discussed to enlarge its soft switching commutation operating range for wide HF AC power regulation. This high frequency cycloinverter is developed for high frequency IH Dual Packs Heater (DPH) type boiler used in consumer and industrial fluid pipeline systems. Based on the experiment and simulation results, this high frequency cycloinverter is proved to be suitable for the consumer use IH-DPH boiler and hot water producers. The cycloinverter power regulation and power conversion efficiency characteristics are evaluated and discussed.

  • This paper proposes a DVS method which effectively reduces the power consumption of multimedia signal processor. Analytic derivations of effective range of its power saving factor are obtained with the assumption of a Gaussian distribution for the frame-based computational burden of the multimedia processor. A closed form equation of the power saving factor is derived in terms of the mean-standard deviation of the distribution. An MPEG-2 video decoder algorithm and AAC encoder algorithm are tested on ARM9 RISC processor for the experimental verification of the power saying of the proposed DVS approach. The experimental results with diverse MPEG-2 video and audio files show 50~30% power saving factor and show good agreement with those of the analytically derived values.
