  • An upper bound elemental technique (UBET) is applied to predict variations of neutral plane and optimal position of the initial billet for rib-wep shaped ring forging. In the analysis, the neutral plane position and velocity fields are determined by minimizing the total power consump- tion with respect to chosen parameters. The degree of die-cavity filling by initial billet-position and the variations of neutral plane by friction condition are investigated. Experiments have been carried out with pure plasticine billets at room temperature. The theoretical predictions of the forging load and the flow pattern are in good agrement with the experimental results.

  • This paper presents a monopulse feed structure with low sidelobe monopulse pattern, which consists of a E-plane corrugated horn and a unfiorm pick-up aperture power divider. Tfhe design methods and epxerimental resutls of the E-plane corrugated feeder are described. Modified hybrid mode analysis and GSM (generalized scattering matrix) methods are introduced to design the E-plane corrugated feed horns. The 24-port corrugated feeder is designed using modified hybrid mode analysis initially and verified using GSM methods. Measurement results show that this feeder has low return loss and sidelobe level at sum and difference channel, respectively.

  • An exact solution procedure is formulated for the free vibration and buckling analysis of rectangular plates having two opposite edges simply supported when these edges are subjected to linearly varying normal stresses. The other two edges may be clamped, simply supported or free, or they may be elastically supported. The transverse displacement (w) is assumed as sinusoidal in the direction of loading (x), and a power series is assumed in the lateral (y) direction (i.e., the method of Frobenius). Applying the boundary conditions yields the eigenvalue problem of finding the roots of a fourth order characteristic determinant. Care must be exercised to obtain adequate convergence for accurate vibration frequencies and buckling loads, as is demonstrated by two convergence tables. Some interesting and useful results for vibration frequencies and buckling loads, and their mode shapes, are presented for a variety of edge conditions and in-plane loadings, especially pure in-plane moments.

  • Industrial robots are powerful, extremely accurate multi-jointed systems, but they are heavy and highly rigid because of their mechanical structure and motorization. Therefore, sharing the robot working space with its environment is problematic. A novel pneumatic artificial muscle actuator (PAM actuator) has been regarded during the recent decades as an interesting alternative to hydraulic and electric actuators. Its main advantages are high strength and high power/weight ratio, low cost, compactness, ease of maintenance, cleanliness, readily available and cheap power source, inherent safety and mobility assistance to humans performing tasks. The PAM is undoubtedly the most promising artificial muscle for the actuation of new types of industrial robots such as Rubber Actuator and PAM manipulators. However, some limitations still exist, such as the air compressibility and the lack of damping ability of the actuator bring the dynamic delay of the pressure response and cause the oscillatory motion. In addition, the nonlinearities in the PAM manipulator still limit the controllability. Therefore, it is not easy to realize motion with high accuracy and high speed and with respect to various external inertia loads in order to realize a human-friendly therapy robot To overcome these problems a novel controller, which harmonizes a phase plane switching control method with conventional PID controller and the adaptabilities of neural network, is newly proposed. In order to realize satisfactory control performance a variable damper - Magneto-Rheological Brake (MRB) is equipped to the joint of the manipulator. Superb mixture of conventional PID controller and a phase plane switching control using neural network brings us a novel controller. This proposed controller is appropriate for a kind of plants with nonlinearity uncertainties and disturbances. The experiments were carried out in practical PAM manipulator and the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm was demonstrated through experiments, which had proved that the stability of the manipulator can be improved greatly in a high gain control by using MRB with phase plane switching control using neural network and without regard for the changes of external inertia loads.

  • The specific absorption rate (SAR) distributions in various models of the human head have been analyzed when the models are exposed to 350 MHz and 900 MHz plane waves. The numerical analysis is performed with the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. A homogeneous sphere including a cylinderical neck, a homogeneous head shaped model, and a heterogeneous realistic model are used as models of human head. The incident plane wave used for these calculations is propagating from the front to the back or from the back to the front of the head model, with its E-field vector orientation being parallel to the major length of the body. The specific findings are: 1) the average SARs of the three models are similar mutually but the local SARs of them differ greatly mutually; 2) the power is deposed more deeply in the head at 350 MHz, which is roughly the resonant frequency of a human head, than at 900 MHz; 3) for a plane wave propagating from the back, "hot spot" is found in the neck region, not in the head; 4) for a plane wave propagating from the front, "hot spot" is found in the nose at 900 MHz, and in the upper part of the lip and the jaw region at 350 MHz.

  • The effective way of estimation and analysis of EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) in Wireless Power Transfer System operating at 13.56 MHz is proposed. In this paper methodology of driving magnetic field strength and electric loop current of two antennas which are in free space and on PEC plane using image theory and duality is proposed. Perfect electric conductor(PEC) is planar, infinite in extent, and perfectly conducting plane. And we will refer it as PEC plane. A equivalent circuit model is used to analyze. Using this theoretical analysis, we can derive maximum magnetic field strength of the far-field region numerically using measured data of near-field maximum magnetic field strength. The experimental results using commercial numerical simulation tool are in agreement with the theoretical results. Also, using the derivation of maximum magnetic field strength in the far-field region, we can easily estimate the maximum allowable power dissipation that meets EMI regulations.

  • In this paper, electromagnetic scattering problems by a resistive strip grating with tapered resistivity on a grounded dielectric plane according to strip width and spacing, relative permittivity and thickness of dielectric layers, and incident angles of a electric wave are analyzed by applying the Fourier-Galerkin Moment Method known as a numerical procedure. The boundary conditions are applied to obtain the unknown field coefficients and the resistive boundary condition is used for the relationship between the tangential electric field and the electric current density on the strip. The resistivity of resistive strips in this paper varies from zeroes at one edge to infinite at the other edge, then the induced surface current density on the resistive strip is expanded in a series of Jacobi polynomials of the order ${\alpha}=0.2,\;{\beta}=-0.2$ as a orthogonal polynomials. The numerical results of the geometrically normalized reflected power in this paper are compared with those for the existing perfectly conducting strip. The numerical results of the normalized reflected power for conductive strips case with zero resistivity in this paper show in good agreement with those of existing papers.

  • This paper dealt with the propagation characteristics of acoustic signals produced by partial discharges and the positioning of PD origin in insulation oil to develop insulation diagnostic techniques of oil-immerged transformers. Electrode systems such as needle to plane, plane to plane, and particle electrodes were fabricated to simulate some defects of power transformers. In addition, the frequency spectrum and propagation characteristics of acoustic signals with partial discharge (PD) in insulation oil were analyzed. Although there were differences based on the type of defect, the frequency spectra of the acoustic signals measured by wide and narrow band acoustic emission (AE) sensors were distributed in the range of 50 kHz-400 kHz. Therefore, a narrowband AE sensor is suitable for the diagnosis of oil-immersed power transformers. We could find the position of the PD source with an error margin of 10% in the experiments by calculating the position of the PD occurrence using the time difference of arrival measured by five AE sensors.

  • In this paper, SI(Signal Integrity) characteristic of the 4-layer PCB(Printed Circuit Boards) with a through-hole via was analyzed by impedance mismatching between the through-hole via and the transmission line, and deterioration of clock pulse response characteristic due to the P/G plane resonances which are generated between the power and the ground plane. The minimized impedance mismatching between the through-hole via and the transmission line for the improving of SI characteristic is confirmed by the TDR(Time Domain Reflector) simulation and lumped element modeling of the through-hole via. And the cancellation method of P/G plane resonances for improvement of the SI characteristic is represented by simulation result.
