  • In the manufacture of flat panel display devices, there is a strong demand for contactless glass panel handling devices that can manipulate a glass panel without contaminating or damaging it. To fulfill this requirement, an electrostatic suspension device far glass panels where the glass panel is supported by electrostatic forces without any mechanical contact is proposed. To implement the system with low cost and compactness, switched-voltage control scheme that is based on the relay feedback control is utilized. Relay feedback control method deploys only a single high-voltage power supply that can deliver a DC voltage of positive and/or negative polarity and thus high voltage amplifiers that are costly and bulky are not needed any more. It is shown that despite the inherent limit cycle property of the relay feedback based control, an excellent performance in vibration suppression is attained due to the presence of a relatively large squeeze film damping originating from the electrodes and levitated object. Using this scheme, a $100{\times}100mm^2$ glass panel was levitated stably with airgap variation decreasing down to $1\;{\mu}m$ at an airgap of $100\;{\mu}m$.

  • Chlorine has strong oxidizing power, also it is many advantages over other disinfectants such as the residual characteristic and economic feasibility. However, chlorine also has disadvantages such as creating disinfection by-products of chlorine as THMs. In particular, the most deadly disadvantage of chlorine is that it is extremely poisonous toxins about all alive lives. Disinfection with electrolysis water can be a very useful way Because you do not have to worry about chlorine's dangerous. In this study, we evaluated the potential as a disinfectant, across the evaluating disinfection effect and generating characteristic of by-products. The electrolyzed water could be obtained removal efficiencies of over 99.9 % the coliform by operating condition such as residence time, current density (voltage), the electrode gap. The residual chlorine be generated 10,000 mg/L in current density $1.0A/dm^2$ and residence time of 10 minutes. The residual chlorine concentration was possible to maintain a stable. The by-products generated by high concentration residual chlorine in the reactor such as trihalomethanes, haloaceticacid, chloralhydrate, haloacetonitrile were detected in less than a water quality standards. At the concentration of less than residual chlorine of 1 ppm, the chlorine disinfection by-products be generated most below the detection limit.

  • This paper deals with the effect of laser welding parameters on the weld formation. Thin steels for automotive application were prepared so as to be welded with high power carbon dioxide laser system. Major process parameters were position of focus and travel speed. The effect of shielding gas was also discussed by employing the high speed photometry. Test results showed that the optimal position of focus varied in accordance with the joint configuration; bead-on-plate, butt or lap welding. It was recommended that the position of focus for the lap welding be located at slightly inner part of the material to be welded. In this case, however, it was noticeable that the weld penetration ratio, d/t$_{0}$ dropped drastically at the critical region. Results also demonstrated that both the bead width and penetration reduced as the travel speed increased. The penetration ratio showed two distinct regions; stabilized zone at the lower range of the travel spped and sudden drop zone at the higher range of travel speed. Lower limit of the penetration for acceptable weld was proved to be about 90% of the parent metal thickness based on the physical properties of the weld. Mixed gas application for both the shielding of molten metal and laser induced plasma control was recommended as far as the penetration was concerned.d.

  • In environmental Impact assessment, noise impact assessment usually consists of three stages-surveying the existing noise levels by measurements, predicting noise levels induced by construction works and predicting noise levels after the completion of a project. The distance-attenuation relation of a point source, which has been used to predict the noise level due to its simplicity does not consider complex acoustic phenomena like multi-reflection, -diffraction and -absorption due to complex topographic configuration of buildings and terrains. For the consideration of such physical complexities. a noise mapping tool is adopted to produce a series of noise maps, which are those for the present, tot the works of construction and for the future. For accurate noise mapping, acoustical and topographic Information is used. Standard sound power levels and directivities of various construction equipments are need and scheduling of construction processes and locations of the equipments should be provided. In the case of exceeding legal limit, mitigation measures are applied to satisfy the legal limits and subsequent noise map is obtained and checked.

  • There is an increasing need for the estimation of foundation piles whose depths are unknown. Especially in repair and reinforcement works or in safety inspection and assessment to the big structures whose foundations are piles, the accurate information about the depth of foundation piles is one of the most important factors. A borehole magnetic tool has been developed and tested to meet this object. The fundamental base is that there usually exist many re-bars inside the foundation structure such as piles, and these re-bars are ferromagnetic materials which cause strong induced magnetic field comparable to the earth magnetic field. It utilizes flux-gate type magnetometer which measures 3-components of the magnetic field. Taking vertical derivatives of vertical component of the measured magnetic field, we can expect the error limit of estimating the depth of the pile end less than 20 cm in favorable condition. The maximum measurable distance is about 3 m to the pile from the borehole. The field data show that borehole magnetics is one of the most accurate, fast, and reliable methods for this object so far, as long as there is no magnetic materials such as deep located steel pipe or power cables close to the foundation piles.

  • Hybrid electric vehicles have attracted much attention of late, emphasizing the necessity of developing traction motors with a high input current and a wide speed range. Among such traction motors, various researches have been conducted on interior permanent-magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) with high power density and mechanical solidity. Due to the complexity of its parameters, however, with nonlinear motor characteristics and current vector control, it is actually difficult to accurately estimate the base speed within an actual operating speed range or a voltage limit. Moreover, it is impossible to construct an efficiency map as the efficiency differs according to the control mode. In this study, a simulation method for operation performance considering the nonlinearity of IPMSM was proposed. For this, datasets of various nonlinear parameters were made via the finite-element method and interpolation. Maximum torque-per-ampere and flux-weakening control were accurately simulated using the datasets, and an IPMSM efficiency map was accurately constructed based on the simulation. Lastly, the validity of the simulation was verified through tests.

  • In this study, the method to use the phase shift keying (PSK) communication technique in smart transmitter is presented. In nuclear applications. smart transmitters for various parameters are expected to improve the accuracy of measurement and to reduce the load of calibration work. The capability of communication in field level is the most important merit of the smart transmitter. The most popular method is using of digital and analog techniques simultaneously - transmitting measurements from the field at 4∼20mA while modulating the current to carry digital information in both directions over the same twisted pairs. Conventional smart transmitters use the frequency shift keying (FSK) method for digital communication. Generally, however, the FSK method has the speed limit at 1200 bps. Amount of information to transmit becomes increasing as the processing technique is improved. The PSK method is noticeable alternative for high speed digital communication, but it has non-zero DC component. In order to use the PSK method in the field transmission with smart transmitter, the method to remove the DC component is studied in this work.

  • Discriminative correlation filter (DCF) based tracking algorithms have recently shown impressive performance on benchmark datasets. However, amount of recent researches are vulnerable to heavy occlusions, irregular deformations and so on. In this paper, we intend to solve these problems and handle the contradiction between accuracy and real-time in the framework of tracking-by-detection. Firstly, we propose an innovative strategy to combine the template and color-based models instead of a simple linear superposition and rely on the strengths of both to promote the accuracy. Secondly, to enhance the discriminative power of the learned template model, the spatial regularization is introduced in the learning stage to penalize the objective boundary information corresponding to features in the background. Thirdly, we utilize a discriminative multi-scale estimate method to solve the problem of scale variations. Finally, we research strategies to limit the computational complexity of our tracker. Abundant experiments demonstrate that our tracker performs superiorly against several advanced algorithms on both the OTB2013 and OTB2015 datasets while maintaining the high frame rates.

  • Portable electronic devices secondary batteries can cause fire and explosion due to micro-current change in addition to the situation of short-circuit inrush current, safety can not be secured with a general operation limited current fuse. Therefore, in secondary battery, it is necessary for the protector to satisfy both the limit current type operation in the open-short-circuit inrush current and the current detection operation characteristic in the micro current change situation and for this operation, a fuse for the current detection type secondary battery protection circuit can be applied. The purpose of this study is to design a protection device that operates stably in the hazardous situation of small capacity secondary battery for portable electronic devices through the design of low melting fuse elements alloy of sensing type fuse and secures stability in abnormal current state. As a result of the experiment, I-T and V-T operation characteristics are satisfied in a the design of the alloy of the current sensing type self-contained low melting point fuse and the resistance of the heating resistor. It is confirmed that it can prevent accidents of short circuit over-current and micro current change of secondary battery.

  • There have been great efforts to develop a rapid and sensitive detection method to monitor the presence of pathogenic bacteria in food. While a number of methods have been reported for bacterial detection with a detection limit to a single digit, most of them are suitable only for the bacteria in pure culture or buffered solution. On the other hand, foods are composed of highly complicated matrices containing carbohydrate, fat, protein, fibers, and many other components whose composition varies from one food to the other. Furthermore, many components in food interfere with the downstream detection process, which significantly affect the sensitivity and selectivity of the detection. Therefore, isolating and concentrating the target pathogenic bacteria from food matrices are of importance to enhance the detection power of the system. The present review provides an introduction to the representative sample preparation strategies to isolate target pathogenic bacteria from food sample. We further describe the nucleic acid-based detection methods, such as PCR, real-time PCR, NASBA, RCA, LCR, and LAMP. Nucleic acid-based methods are by far the most sensitive and effective for the detection of a low number of target pathogens whose performance is greatly improved by combining with the sample preparation methods.
