  • In this paper, we deal with multi-user diversity scheduling methods that transmit simultaneously signals from multiple users using superposition coding multiplexing. These methods can make various scheduling methods be obtained, according to strategies for user selection priority from the first user to the first-following users, strategies for per-user power allocation, and resulting combining strategies. For the first user selection, we consider three strategies such as 1) higher priority for a user with a better channel state, 2) following the proportional fair scheduling (PFS) priority, 3) higher priority for a user with a lower average serving rate. For selection of the first-following users, we consider the identical strategies for the first user selection. However, in the second strategy, we can decide user priorities according to the original PFS ordering, or only once an additional user for power allocation according to the PFS criterion by considering a residual power and inter-user interference. In the strategies for power allocation, we consider two strategies as follows. In the first strategy, it allocates a power to provide a permissible per-user maximum rate. In the second strategy, it allocates a power to provide a required per-user minimum rate, and then it reallocates the residual power to respective users with a rate greater than the required minimum and less than the permissible maximum. We consider three directions for scheduling such as maximizing the sum rate, maximizing the fairness, and maximizing the sum rate while maintaining the PFS fairness. We select the max CIR, max-min fair, and PF scheduling methods as their corresponding reference methods [1 and references therein], and then we choose candidate scheduling methods which performances are similar to or better than those of the corresponding reference methods in terms of the sum rate or the fairness while being better than their corresponding performances in terms of the alternative metric (fairness or sum rate). Through computer simulations, we evaluate the sum rate and Jain’s fairness index (JFI) performances of various scheduling methods according to the number of users.

  • In this paper, we introduce a modified interference cancellation scheme to overcome MAI(Multiple Access Interference) in DS-CDMA. Among ICs(Interference Cancellers), PIC(Parallel Interference Canceller) requires the more stages to have the better BER(Bit Error Rate), and SIC(Successive Interference Canceller) faces the problems of power reordering and large delays. To resolve the problems of them, we propose a modified interference cancellation scheme combining SIC and PIC. The proposed interference canceller has improved the performance through the total received signal applied sorting method is fed into the initial stage. Its structure extracts the good characteristics because of the input signal removed MAI in the initial stage. The characteristics of the proposed system are as follows (1) smaller delay, and the strongest user signal is also reduced to MAI(unlike SIC), (2) it has the good BER performance only using fewer stages (unlike PIC).

  • This paper attempts to evaluate the accuracy and efficiency of a design optimization procedure by combining wavelets-based multi resolution analysis method and proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) technique. Aerodynamic design procedure calls for high fidelity computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations and the consideration of large number of flow conditions and design constraints. Thus, even with significant computing power advancement, current level of integrated design process requires substantial computing time and resources. POD reduces the degree of freedom of full system by conducting singular value decomposition for various field simulations. In this research, POD combined Design Optimization model is proposed and its efficiency and accuracy are to be evaluated. For additional efficiency improvement of the procedure, multi resolution analysis method is also being employed during snapshot constructions (POD training period). The proposed design procedure was applied to the optimization of wing aerodynamic performance. Throughout the research, it was confirmed that the POD/MRA design procedure could significantly reduce the total design turnaround time and also capture all detailed complex flow features as in full order analysis.

  • This study was conducted to detect quantitative trait loci (QTL) for thirteen growth and meat quality traits in pigs by combing QTL experimental populations. Two F2 reference populations that were sired by Korea native pig (KNP) and dammed by Landrace (LN) or Yorkshire (YK) were generated to construct linkage maps using 123 genetic markers (mostly microsatellites) and to perform QTL analysis on porcine chromosomes (SSCs) 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 14, and 15. A set of line-cross models was applied to detect QTL, and a series of lack-of-fit tests between the models was used to characterize inheritance mode of QTL. A total of 23, 11 and 19 QTL were detected at 5% chromosome-wise level for the data sets of KNP${\times}$LN, KNP${\times}$YK cross and joint sets of the two cross populations, respectively. With the joint data, two Mendelian expressed QTL for live weight and cooking loss were detected on SSC3 and SSC15 at 1% chromosome-wise level, respectively. Another Mendelian expressed QTL was detected for CIE a on SSC7 at 5% genome-wise level. Our results suggest that QTL analysis by combining data from two QTL populations increase power for QTL detection, which could provide more accurate genetic information in subsequent marker-assisted selection.

  • Recently, long pulses are transmitted for target detection in active sonar application. Matched filtering implemented by simple convolution algorithm, requires massive computational power for long replica. The computational loads are reduced significantly by implementing the convolution in the frequency domain with overlap add method, but the performance degrades for specified input/output system delay which constrains the size of FFT function. For performance improvement, the replica could be partitioned into uniform blocks (FDL) by re-using IFFT operations, or variable blocks of increasing length (MC) by using the largest possible blocks to calculate the convolution. In this paper, by combining the strong points of the two methods, we propose a new filter partition structure that allows for further optimization of the previous two methods.

  • Vehicular communications is system which can be applied for transmission of various safety messages or Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS) applications by combining vehicle/road technology with Information and Communication Technology(ICT). In recent years, a variety of ITS services are available such as driving information, road conditions, V2X messages as well as navigation and traffic jams notification. In general, vehicular communications can be used for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication by adopting IEEE802.11p/1609 standard which is commonly known as wireless access in vehicular environments. In this paper, WAVE communication standard based on the IEEE802.11p is explained and signal characteristics in WAVE communication is introduced. Also, The H/W and S/W characteristics in Road Side Station and On Board Equipment for the Vehicle to Everything communication are analyzed. Received Signal Strength which is power of receiving signal of communication equipment is measured in test road to estimate the real WAVE communication's performance. It is shown that the implemented WAVE communication technology is satisfactory to provide ITS services.

  • The dusty torus of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) is one of the important components for the unification theory of AGNs. The geometry and properties of the dusty torus are key factors in understanding the nature of AGNs as well as the formation and evolution of AGNs. However, they are still under discussion. Infrared observation is useful for understanding the dusty torus as thermal emission from hot dust with the dust sublimation temperature (~ 1500 K) has been observed in the infrared. We have analyzed infrared spectroscopic data of low-redshift and high-redshift quasars, which are luminous AGNs. For the low-redshift quasars, we constructed the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) with AKARI near-infrared and Spitzer mid-infrared spectra and decomposed the SEDs into a power-law component from the nuclei, silicate features, and blackbody components with different temperatures from the dusty torus. From the decomposition, the temperature of the innermost dusty torus shows the range between 900-2000 K. For the high-redshift quasars, AKARI traced rest-frame optical and near-infrared spectra of AGNs. Combining with WISE data, we have found that the temperature of the innermost dusty torus in high redshift quasars is lower than that in typical quasars. The hydrogen $H{\alpha}$ emission line from the braod emission line region in the quasars also shows narrow full width at half maximum of $3000-4000km\;s^{-1}$. These results indicate that the dusty torus and the broad emission line region are more extended than those of typical quasars.

  • In the 21th century, the age of image, people express and evaluate with images. Image is a symbol of a person or a thing. It simulates people's visual sense most quickly and precisely and is shared in the society. At the time, since it is acknowledged that there are few books available and lack of theoretical system with regard to image making, the purpose of this study was to get a theoretical access to image making by taking as an empirical case the case of Choi Byeongryeol, a candidate running for the congress in June 4, 1998 and combining it with theories of costume. Research methods employed here were to investigate the theoretical system of image making and fashion direction, and to analyze empirical cases. The boundary of the empirical case was limited to the candidate's fashion direction during the election period for 50 days from April 1998 to the election date June 4, 1998. The results of this study are as follows. First, personal image making aims at the establishment of one's own identity through building up an ideal image. Second, it is found that personal image making can make a complete image possible through fashion direction. Third, it is found that fashion direction functions as a symbol and communicative means with a result that the effect can penetrate to the society accurately and quickly. Fourth, it is found that fashion direction fit for a situation can enhance personal values and reinforce his or her competitive power to carry out the ultimate goals in the society. This study proved that fashion styling for personal image making expresses a person in a symbolic image, enhances his/her personal value in the society and, ultimately, contributes to the establishment of an individual's identity.

  • Traffic matrix-based anomaly detection and DDoS attacks detection in networks are research focus in the network security and traffic measurement community. In this paper, firstly, a new type of unidirectional flow called IF flow is proposed. Merits and features of IF flows are analyzed in detail and then two efficient methods are introduced in our DDoS attacks detection and evaluation scheme. The first method uses residual variance ratio to detect DDoS attacks after Recursive Least Square (RLS) filter is applied to predict IF flows. The second method uses generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) statistical test to detect DDoS attacks after a Kalman filter is applied to estimate IF flows. Based on the two complementary methods, an evaluation formula is proposed to assess the seriousness of current DDoS attacks on router ports. Furthermore, the sensitivity of three types of traffic (IF flow, input link and output link) to DDoS attacks is analyzed and compared. Experiments show that IF flow has more power to expose anomaly than the other two types of traffic. Finally, two proposed methods are compared in terms of detection rate, processing speed, etc., and also compared in detail with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) methods. The results demonstrate that adaptive filter methods have higher detection rate, lower false alarm rate and smaller detection lag time.

  • A conservative finite-volume numerical method for unstructured grids with the cell-centered method has been developed for computing flow and heat transfer by combining the attractive features of the existing pressure-based procedures with the advances made in unstructured grid techniques. This method uses an integral form of governing equations for arbitrary convex polyhedra. Care is taken in the discretization and solution procedure to avoid formulations that are cell-shape-specific. A collocated variable arrangement formulation is developed, i.e. all dependent variables such as pressure and velocity are stored at cell centers. For both convective and diffusive fluxes the forms superior to both accuracy and stability are particularly adopted and formulated through a systematic study on the existing approximation ones. Gradients required for the evaluation of diffusion fluxes and for second-order-accurate convective operators are computed by using a linear reconstruction based on the divergence theorem. Momentum interpolation is used to prevent the pressure checkerboarding and a segregated solution strategy is adopted to minimize the storage requirements with the pressure-velocity coupling by the SIMPLE algorithm. An algebraic solver using iterative preconditioned conjugate gradient method is used for the solution of linearized equations. The flow analysis code (PowerCFD) developed by the present method is evaluated for its application to several 2-D structured-mesh benchmark problems using a variety of unstructured quadrilateral and triangular meshes. The present flow analysis code by using unstructured grids with the cell-centered method clearly demonstrate the same accuracy and robustness as that for a typical structured mesh.
