A Fully Digital Controlled Fly-back Single Stage Power Supply Unit for the Wireless Dimming System of LED Lightings

  • This paper presents a fully digital controlled power supply unit for the wireless controlled dimmable LED lighting system. The proposed power supply designed using a fly-back converter, which is directly controlled by a microprocessor. Although the proposed circuit does not sense the AC input current and has not AC input voltage feed-forward, it can achieve a high power factor. The proposed power supply directly regulates the output power for LED loads using the PWM and PFM control of the fly-back converter without additional regulator. For a wireless remote control function, the Zigbee modem is equipped in the proposed power supply. A prototype set-up has been built and tested. Through the experiment with a prototype set-up, the usefulness of the proposed power supply is verified.

The Design and Construction of a High Efficiency Satellite Electrical Power Supply System

  • In this paper, a high efficiency satellite electrical power supply system is proposed. The increased efficiency of the power supply system allows for downscaling of the solar array and battery weight, which are among the most important satellite design considerations. The satellite power supply system comprises two units, namely a generation unit and a storage unit. To increase the efficiency of the solar array, a maximum power point tracker (MPPT) is used in the power generation unit. In order to improve the MPPT performance, a novel algorithm is proposed on the basis of the hill climbing method. This method can track the main peak of the array power curve in satellites with long duration missions under unpredicted circumstances such as a part of the array being damaged or the presence of a shadow. A lithium-ion battery is utilized in the storage unit. An algorithm for calculating the optimal rate of battery charging is proposed where the battery is charged with the maximum possible efficiency considering the situation of the satellite. The proposed system is designed and manufactured. In addition, it is compared to the conventional power supply systems in similar satellites. Results show a 12% increase in the overall efficiency of the power supply system when compared to the conventional method.

  • The korea Electric Railway feeder voltage is DC 1500V and AC 250000V. The auxiliary power supply of the vehicle auxiliary power units for domestic electrical feed has been developed with domestic technology hyeonchae mounted station, and domestic uses, such as voltage, have been exported to other countries. However, do not use at domestic that can be used for DC 3000V voltage auxiliary power unit does not develop, vehicle exports global. This has already been replaced by imported products from other nations is a real situation. Thus, our auxiliary power unit for the DC 3000V was developed, it will be exported to Ukraine. In this paper, We introduced circuit and structure of developed auxiliary power supply unit, and verified the performance with output characteristic of the auxiliary power unit.

  • This paper presents the power supply system which is made of three units: the capacitor charging and main pulse unit, simmer power supply unit, and series trigger unit. The capacitor charging and main pulse unit charges the capacitor bank by using the series parallel resonant converter and the generated main pulses apply to the lamp. The series trigger unit ionize the xenon gas located in the lamp and the simmer power supply unit sustains the ionized condition. It means that the lamp lifetime and efficiency are advanced by reducing the number of triggering. Not only the operation of the proposed system but also the performance of each unit will be verified by the experimental results.

  • In this paper, UPS, which is embedded in computer power supply, is developed against the poor utility power system. In the developed system, PIC16C54 is used as the main controller, and UPS system consists of micom control module, power failure detecting module, charging module, power module, synchronous transfer module, and GUI module. Additionally, GUI module consists of battery charging state unit, power operating unit and operating state unit. The effectiveness of the developed system has been verified by the experimental results.

  • This paper describes a design and implementation of the practical SMPS(Switched Mode Power Supply) with multi-output independent regulation scheme. The designed SMPS is applied to the PSU(Power Supply Unit) of high power GTO drivers for a inverter system. In order to accomplish precise voltage regulations for both turn-on and turn-off bias voltages of the GTO driver, the conventional forward type PWM converter scheme is adopted with the Post Regulator using a Saturable Reactor. Analytic design criteria and control schemes are described for practical applications. Finally, the precise regulation of multi-output voltages is proved by experimental results.

  • It is always necessary to high performance power supplies for the magnet system in the accelerator, especially when the number of power supplies are large. When have developed the compact power supply using switching technology instead of SCR phase control. We adopt the pulse width modulation(PWM) method with a half bridge DC/DC converter. In this way, we can make a compact system with light weight and small volume. Actual system we developed is 1.2kW, 35V/35A bipolar DC power supply current precision of +/-0.02%. It is possible to mount 10 unit in a conventional 19 rack. The built in controller has an RS422 protocol to drive 10 unit by one serial port up to 1.2km distance. If we adopt RS485 protocol, one serial port can control 32 power supplies. In this paper, we will report the design and performance of the prototype power supply.

  • An energy storage system consisting of a battery and a power-to-methanol (PtM) unit was investigated to develop an energy storage system for renewable energy systems. A nonlinear programming model was established to optimize the energy storage system. The optimal installation capacities of the battery and power-to-methanol units were determined to minimize the cost of the energy system. The cost from a renewable energy system was assessed for four configurations, with or without energy storage units, of the battery and the power-to-methanol unit. The proposed model was applied to the modified electricity supply and demand based on published data. The results show that value-adding units, such as PtM, need be included to build a stable renewable energy system. This work will significantly contribute to the advancement of electricity supply and demand management and to the establishment of a nationwide policy for renewable energy storage.

  • This study describes the design and implementation of digital Payload power supply. We materialized the interface of the PLDIU and power supply of a satellite bus, and minimized the potential for the occurrence of such erroneous operation circuit ESD through the WCA of the space environment. We designed a reliable power supply through simulation for a TID according to the vibration generated during the launch and space radiation environment, and found no problem in the function and performance through the test space environment after production.
