  • This paper studies the state estimation problem for the current of DC/DC boost converters with parasitic inductor resistance. The parasitic resistance increases the system uncertainty when the output load variation occurs. In order to enhance the observation performance of the Luenberger observer this paper includes the integral of the estimation error signal to the estimation algorithm. By using the proposed PI observer the converter current signal is successfully reconstructed with the voltage measurement regardless of the load uncertainty. Computer simulation has been carried out by using Simulink/Sim Power System. Simulation results show the proposed method maintains robust estimation performance against the model uncertainty.

  • This paper presents a discrete adaptive observer for MIMO system of an IM model in DQ reference model. The IM model in the stationary frame is discretized and it is transformed into the canonical observer form. The unknown parameter is choosen as rotor speed. The adaptive law for parameter adjustment is obtained as a set of recursive equations which are derived by utilizing an exponentially weighted normalized least-square method. The proposed adaptive observer converges rapidly and is also shown to track time-varying plant parameter quickly. Its effectiveness has been demonstrated by computer simulation.

  • This paper presents the sliding mode observer of an induction motor for the fuel cell electric vehicles. The exact rotor flux estimation of the induction motor is important for achieving the best performance from the fuel cell electric vehicle system. However, the flux estimator of the induction motor control is highly sensitive to the voltage sensor output characteristics and system parameter variation influenced by external factors. In order to eliminate these problems, this paper investigates the electric vehicle performance due to parameter variation of the induction motor. A new method to estimate the fuel cell electric vehicle system is proposed based on the sliding mode observer.

  • In vector-controlled drive systems, the current measurement offset error causes unwanted torque ripple, resulting in speed and torque control performance degradation. The current measurement offset error is caused by various factors, including thermal drift. This study proposes a simple DC offset error compensation method for a surface permanent magnet motor based on a disturbance observer. The disturbance observer is designed in the stationary reference frame. The proposed method uses only the measured current and machine parameters without additional hardware. The effect of parameter variations is analyzed, and the performance of the current measurement offset error compensation method is validated using simulation and experimental results.

  • A motor cylinder apparatus is used to transfer a load in industrial applications. The apparatus is composed of a motor and power transmission elements such as worm gear and screw. In this case, the nonlinear friction of the transmission elements has a bad influence on the position control performance. To overcome this problem, the position control system consists of a feedback controller to achieve nominal control performance and a disturbance observer to compensate nonlinear friction. Especially the filter of a disturbance observer is designed from viewpoint of robust stability. Finally, the simulation result shows that the proposed control system is effective for the disturbance elimination as well as the friction compensation.

  • In this paper, we present a nonlinear feedback linearization-full order observer/sliding mode controller (NFL-FOO/SMC), to obtain smmoth control as a linearized controller in a linear system (or to cancel the nonlinearity in a nonlinear system), and to solve the problem of the unmeasurable state variables as in the conventional SMC. The proposed controller is obtained by combining the nonlinear feedback linearization-sliding mode control (NFL-SMC) with the full order observer (FOO)and eliminates the need to measure all the state variables in the traditional SMC. The proposed controller is applied to the nonlinear power system stabilizer (PSS) for damping oscillations in a power system. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is verified by the nonlinear time-domain simulations in case of a 3-cycle line-to-ground fault and in case of the parameter variation for the AVR gain K\ulcorner and for the inertia moment M.

  • A new on-line dead-time compensation method for a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor drive is proposed. Using a simple disturbance observer without any additional circuit and off-line experimental measurement, disturbance voltages in the synchronous reference dq frame caused by the dead time and non-ideal switching characteristics of power devices are estimated in an on-line manner and fed to voltage references in order to compensate the dead-time effects. The proposed method is applied to a PM synchronous motor drive system and implemented by using software of a digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320C31. Simulations and experiments are carried out for this system and the results well demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Most variable speed wind turbines have pitch control mechanisms and one of their objectives is to protect turbines when the wind speed is too high. By adjusting pitch angles of wind turbine, the inlet power and the torque developed by the turbine are regulated. In this paper, the difference between the real wind speed and its rated value is regarded as a disturbance, and a component called disturbance observer (DOB) is added to the pre-designed control loop. The additional DOB based controller estimates the disturbance and generates a compensating signal to suppress the effect of disturbance on the system. As a result, the stability and the performance of the closed loop system guaranteed by an outer-loop controller (designed for a nominal system without taking into account of disturbances) are approximately recovered in the steady state. Simulation results are presented to verify the performance of the proposed control scheme.

  • Smart Door(SD) is a human friendly power-assisted door system for passenger car doors. It offers comfort and safety to passengers and drivers by supplying additional power. In this study, dynamic system model and the equation of motion derivation are derived. And we propose the disturbance observer based collision detection algorithm for safety when opening the door. A disturbance caused by collision has a fast response compared to a friction, uncertainties and so on. The main idea this study is to estimate a variation of disturbance for stably and effectively detecting a collision. In order to evaluate a performance of collision detection, an experiment set up is constructed. The experimental results validate the usefulness of the proposed collision detection algorithm.

  • This paper presents neural load torque observer tha used to deadbeat load torque observer and regulation of the compensation gun by parameter estimator. As a result, the response of PMSM follows that of the nominal plant. The load torque compensation method is compose of a neural deadbeat observer. To reduce of the noise effect, the post-filter, which is implemented by MA process, is adopted. The parameter compensator with RLSM (recursive least square method) parameter estimator is adopted to increase the performance of the load torque observer and main controller. The parameter estimator li combined with a high performance neural torque observer to resolve the problems. As a result, the proposed control system becomes a robust and precise system against the load torque and the parameter variation. A stability and usefulness, through the verified computer simulation, are shown in this paper
