  • Purpose: This study analyzed the effects of meridian massage on the muscle power, ROM, and ADL in persons with cerebral palsy. Method: A non-equivalent pre-test/post-test design was used. The data were collected from August to October, 2000 from 10 persons with cerebral palsy (a control group of 5 and an experimental group of 5). Muscle power was evaluated with the Brunnstrom-Dennen gravity test, ROM with a goniometer, and ADL with a self developed ADL scale. T-test, repeated measure ANOVA were used for statistical analysis. Result: The results are; 1. For muscle power, both time series group difference (F=10.66, p=0.000) and the total period group difference (F=72.67, p=0.000) were significant between the two groups. 2. ROM was not significantly different between the two groups. 3. For ADL, both time series group difference (F=7.09, p=0.001) and total period group difference (F=35.99, p=0.000) were significant between the two groups. Conclusion: Overall, this study shows that Meridian massage is effective for muscle power, ROM, and ADL in persons with cerebral palsy person. So it can be used to develope effective nursing programs to improve the function of motion of persons with cerebral palsy.

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify levels of physical fitness in student nurses and to ascertain the relationship among the different aspects of physical fitness of strength, power, muscle endurance, agility, balance and flexibility. Method: The participants were 266 students selected from one college of nursing. From May 1 to July 31 in 2003, physical constitution, muscle strength (grip strength, back strength), power (standing long jump), muscle endurance (sit-ups), agility (whole body reaction time-light, sound), balance (close-eyes foot-balance), and flexibility (sitting trunk flexion) were measured. Result: The mean(standard deviation) for grip strength was 22.59(3.93) kg., for back strength, 48.52(12.85) kg., for standing long jump, 135.29(20.54) m., for sit-up's, 23.66(9.35) per minute, whole body reaction time (light), 0.43(0.11) sec, whole body reaction time (sound), 0.50(0.16) sec, close-eyes foot-balance, 33.35(38.67) sec, and sitting trunk flexion 34.72(9.37) cm. Conclusion: This study showed that the physical fitness of student nurses is very low compared to the results in a report from the Korea Sports Science Institute. It is necessary to include exercise programs for student nurses in order to improve their physical fitness.

  • This study was done to identify the factors influencing customer orientation of nurses. Method: The participants were 505 nurses who were working in 13 hospitals. Data were collected with structured questionnaires in Feb., 2012, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one way-ANOVA, Scheffe test, correlation coefficient, and hierarchical regression with PASW (SPSS) 18.0 program. Result: The average score for internal marketing was 3.07 points, for job satisfaction, 3.06 points, for organizational commitment, 3.25 points, and for customer orientation, 3.53 points. Customer orientation was positively correlated with internal marketing, job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The significant predictors of customer orientation were professionalism, interaction with job satisfaction, affective commitment, continuous commitment to organizational commitment and length of career. These variables had an explanatory power of 45.2%. Conclusions: The study findings suggest that internal marketing, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment should be reinforced to improve the customer orientation of nurses.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to determine factors affecting depression in women patients with osteoarthritis. Methods: Raw data from the 6th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2014 was used. Data for 480 women were included. Variables related to general, physical and psychological characteristics were selected. After a sampling plan compound file was created using IBM SPSS 23.0 program, data were analyzed by giving weights. Results: The results of the study are as follows. 1) Depression was significantly different according to economic status, marital status, knee pain, stress and subjective health status (p<.05). 2) Factors affecting the women included marital status, knee pain, stress, and subjective health status. The explanatory power was 41.0%. Conclusion: Results indicate that there is a need to give comprehensive consideration to the factors identified in this study when designing preventive interventions and management plans to alleviate depression in women with osteoarthritis.

  • Renewable energy resources play an important part in the world's future. Renewable energy sources have the following components: biomass, geothermal, solar thermal, directs solar, wind, tidal and hydropower. Hydropower is still the most efficient way to generate electricity worldwide. Hydropower projects can contribute as a cheap energy source, as well to encourage the development of small industries across a wide range of new technology; furthermore hydropower systems use the energy in flowing and falling water to produce electricity or mechanical energy. Hydropower systems are classified as large, medium, small, mini and micro according to their installed power generation capacity, as do the following components: water turbines, control mechanisms and electrical transmissions. In this article a review of small hydropower systems has been done on the principles surrounding the fundamentals of hydraulic engineering, the fundamentals of hydrology, identification of sites and economic analysis.

  • Physical fundamentals of ultrashort femtosecond lasers are addressed along with emerging applications for precision manufacturing and metrology. Femtosecond lasers emit short pulses whose temporal width is in the range of less than a picosecond to a few femtoseconds, thereby enabling extremely high peak-power machining with less thermal damages. Besides, the broad spectral bandwidth of femtosecond lasers constructed in the form of frequency comb permits absolute distance measurements leading to ultraprecision positioning control and dimensional metrology.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was propose and test a predictive model that could explain and predict factors influencing the sexual satisfaction of women with diabetes mellitus. Method: The conceptual frame for this study was formed as a hypothesized model based on Roy's adaptation model. Participants for this study were 240 out-patient women from P university hospital in Y city. The data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 19.0 program. Results: The paths that had direct effects on sexual satisfaction, and were statistically significant were showing intimacy with spouse, and sexual function. The explanatory power of these variables for sexual satisfaction was 64%. Conclusion: The results of the study suggest that it is necessary for enhancement of sexual satisfaction for women with diabetes to increase intimacy with husband, and that sexual function, frequency of exercise, adequate glycemic control be maintained, and depression decreased.

  • A protection scheme for Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) is presented and analyzed in this paper. The proposed UPQC has the series active power filter operated as a high impedance k($\Omega$) to the fundamentals when short-circuit faults occur in the power distribution system, and three control strategies are proposed in this paper. The first is the method by detecting the fundamental source current through the p-q theory, the second is the method by detecting the fundamental component of load current in Synchronous Reference Frame(SRF) and the third is the method by detecting the input voltage. When the short-circuit fault occur in the power distribution system, the proposed scheme protects the UPQC without additional protection circuits. The validity of proposed protection scheme is investigated through simulation results.
