  • The increasing capabilities of the computers enable us to utilize various numerical schemes for the time-domain simulations concerned with 3-dimensional free-surface wave problems. There are still difficulties to solve such kind of problems, however. That's because long time simulations with large computational domain are needed in time-domain analysis. So, we need faster and more efficient numerical schemes to get the solutions practically for these problems. In this paper, a high-order spectral/boundary-element method is used for the numerical investigation of physics involved in wave-body interaction. This method is one of the most efficient numerical methods by which the nonlinear gravity waves can be simulated and hydrodynamic forces also can be calculated in time-domain. To get the robust study in these topics, various numerical tests are performed and compared with others' works.

  • Frequency domain measurement of propagation loss for ultra high frequency (UHF) partial discharge in the winding of power transformer using a spectrum analyzer and pulse generator is presented. We compared the performance of the method using a network analyzer with and without a winding. Using a network analyzer simplifies the measurement and offers better dynamic range and frequency range. It also provides precise propagation loss within the winding in frequency domain at UHF range. We applied this method to measure UHF propagation loss of transformer mock-up, modeled 154 kV 20 MVA power in KEPCO substation.

  • This paper presents a dynamic simulation algorithm for studying the effect of United Power Flow Controller(UPFC) on the low frequency power system oscillations and transient stability studies. The proposed algorithm is a Newton-type one and uses current injection type UPFC model, which gives a fast convergence characteristics. The algorithm is applied to studying inter-area power oscillation damping enhancement of a sample two-area power system both in time domain and frequency domain. The case study results show that the proposed algorithm is very efficient and UPFC is very effective and robust against operating point change.

  • We report the characteristics and differences of two types of attenuation measurement methods for electromagnetic partial discharge signal in GIS. The pulse method is to measure the attenuated waveforms in time domain and coverts them into frequency domain to get the attenuation spectra of given GIS section. This method simulates the real partial discharge signal. The frequency swept continuous wave method can obtain attenuation spectra directly so that it gives attenuation with low noise floor and simplicity. We show that both methods are effective and exchangeable because the attenuation results measured by two methods have similar trends

  • Quantitative Feedback Theory(QFT) has been used to design a robust power system stabilizer(PSS) to improve transient and dynamic stabilities of a power system. This design technique is basically accomplished in frequency domain. The most important feature of QFT is that it is able to deal with the design problem of complicated uncertain plants. A basic idea in QFT design is the translation of closed-loop frequency-domain specifications into Nichols chart domains specifying the allowable range of the nominal open-loop response and then to design a controller by using the gain-phase loop shaping technique. This paper introduces a new algorithm to compute QFT bounds more efficiently. The propose QFT design method ensures a satisfactory performance of the PSS under a wide range of power system operating conditions.

  • Let R be a ring, ($S,{\leq}$) a strictly ordered monoid, and ${\omega}:S{\rightarrow}End(R)$ a monoid homomorphism. In [18], Mazurek, and Ziembowski investigated when the skew generalized power series ring $R[[S,{\omega}]]$ is a domain satisfying the ascending chain condition on principal left (resp. right) ideals. Following [18], we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions on R, S and ${\omega}$ such that the skew generalized power series ring $R[[S,{\omega}]]$ is a right or left Archimedean domain. As particular cases of our general results we obtain new theorems on the ring of arithmetical functions and the ring of generalized power series. Our results extend and unify many existing results.

  • In this paper, an effective numerical analysis method is proposed for calculating dosimetry of the wireless power transfer system operating low-frequency ranges. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is widely used to analyze bio-electromagnetic field problems, which require high resolution, such as a heterogeneous whole-body voxel human model. However, applying the standard method in the low-frequency band incurs an inordinate number of time steps. We overcome this problem by proposing a modified finite-difference time-domain method which utilizes a quasi-static approximation with the surface equivalence theorem. The analysis results of the simple model by using proposed method are in good agreement with those from a commercial electromagnetic simulator. A simulation of the induced electric fields in a human head voxel model exposed to a wireless power transmission system provides a realistic example of an application of the proposed method. The simulation results of the realistic human model with the proposed method are verified by comparing it with the conventional FDTD method.

  • In this paper, we propose a time-frequency domain reflectometry (TFDR) based measurement method for localizing concentric neutrals corrosion on live underground power cable. It consists of two inductive couplers which can transmit the reference signal into live underground power cable and measure the reflected signals from the impedance discontinuities of concentric neutrals corrosion. In order to compensate the dispersion of the measured reflected signal via inductive coupler, an equalizer based on Wiener filtering is designed. To improve the localizing performance of concentric neutrals corrosion in the vicinity of the measurement point, the reference signal is removed from the measured reflected signals. The localization performance of the proposed method is verified by the concentric neutrals corrosion localization experiment.

  • This paper presents digital hearing aids signal processing system in WT(wavelet transform) domain. For implementation of hearing aids in WT domain, the gain in frequency domain is approximated in WT domain. We also present the gain selection algorithm to deal with the change of input signal power. Most transform methods produce blocking effect, and this effect degrades the convergence rate of feedback canceller. As a solution, we proposed wavelet transform bascd feedback canceller. To evaluate the performance, we compared it with LOT (lapped orthogonal transform) method in the frequency domain. This system has not shown the blocking effect, and improves convergence rate as compared with the LOT based feedback canceller.

  • This paper presents the modeling and design of a digital controller for a phase-shifted full-bridge converter (PSFBC) in a discrete-time domain. The discretized PSFBC model is first derived and then analyzed considering the sampling effect and the system parameters. Based on this model, the digital controller is directly designed in a discrete-time domain. The simulation and experimental results are provided to show the validity of the proposed modeling and controller design.
