  • The sensor signal validation and failure detection system must be able to detect, isolate, and identify sensor degradation as well as provide a reconstruction of the measurements. In this study, this is accomplished by combining the neural network, the Generalized Consistency Checking(GCC), and the Sequential Probability Ratio Test(SPRT) method in a decision estimator module. The GCC method is a computationally efficient system for redundant sensors, while the SPRT provides the ability to make decisions based on the degradation history of a sensor. The methodology is also extended to the detection of noise degradation. The acceptability of the proposed method is demonstration by using the simulation data in safety injection accident of nuclear power plants. The results show that the signal validation and sensor failure detection system is able to detect and isolate a bias failure and noise type failures under transient conditions. And also, the system is able to provide the validated signal by reconstructing the measurement signals in the failure conditions considered.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new method detecting thyristor faults of the power converter module in Control Rod Control System. When we control the currents in each coil of Control Rod Drive Mechanism by using the current control method, the current value can follow the current reference despite the faults like the missing phase or the diode acting. Comparing the fault current values with the normal current values, the bad transient characteristics of the abnormal current can make the operations of control rods incorrect. In this case, the information from the current trends cannot be enough to detect the fault occurrence in thyristors. Instead of the coil currents, the state of thyristors can be watched by measuring the coil voltages. In the existing system of Westinghouse type, the ripple detector takes charge of this task. But this detector has some shortcomings in the point of time for fault detection, we come to devise a new fault detection method solving the problems which belong to the ripple detector.

An Architecture Design of Distributed Internet Worm Detection System for Fast Response

  • As the power of influence of the Internet grows steadily, attacks against the Internet can cause enormous monetary damages nowadays. A worm can not only replicate itself like a virus but also propagate itself across the Internet. So it infects vulnerable hosts in the Internet and then downgrades the overall performance of the Internet or makes the Internet not to work. To response this, worm detection and prevention technologies are developed. The worm detection technologies are classified into two categories, host based detection and network based detection. Host based detection methods are a method which checks the files that worms make, a method which checks the integrity of the file systems and so on. Network based detection methods are a misuse detection method which compares traffic payloads with worm signatures and anomaly detection methods which check inbound/outbound scan rates, ICMP host/port unreachable message rates, and TCP RST packet rates. However, single detection methods like the aforementioned can't response worms' attacks effectively because worms attack the Internet in the distributed fashion. In this paper, we propose a design of distributed worm detection system to overcome the inefficiency. Existing distributed network intrusion detection systems cooperate with each other only with their own information. Unlike this, in our proposed system, a worm detection system on a network in which worms select targets and a worm detection system on a network in which worms propagate themselves cooperate with each other with the direction-aware information in terms of worm's lifecycle. The direction-aware information includes the moving direction of worms and the service port attacked by worms. In this way, we can not only reduce false positive rate of the system but also prevent worms from propagating themselves across the Internet through dispersing the confirmed worm signature.

웨이브렛 계수를 이용한 고저항 지락고장 감시데이터 산출방법 연구 (A Study on the Developing Method of HIF Monitoring Data using Wavelet Coefficient)

  • As the increasing HIF(High Impedance Fault) with the arc cannot be easily detected for the low fault current magnitude compared to actual load in distribution line. However, the arcing current shows that the magnitude varies with time and the signal is asymmetric. In addition, discontinuous changes occur at starting point of arc. Considering these characteristics, wavelet transformation of actual current data shows difference between before and after the fault. Althogh raw data(detail coefficient) of wavelet transform may not be directly applied to HIF detection logic in a device, there are several developing methods of HIF monitoring data using the original wavelet coefficients. In this paper, a simple and effective developing methods of HIF monitoring data were analized by using the signal data through an actual HIF experiment to apply them to economic devices. The methods using the sumation of the wavelet coefficient squares in one cycle of the fundamental frequency as the energies of the wavelet coefficeits and the sumation of the absolute values were compared. Besides, the improved method which less occupies H/W resouces and can be applied to field detection devices was proposed. and also Verification of this HIF detection method through field test on distribution system in KEPCO power testing center was performed.

  • This paper introduces a new algorithm of pulse generation and detection for UWB communication system. The existing UWB systems using Gaussian pulse have some difficulties to cope with bandwidth limitation and frequency transition. Moreover. the system sensitivity to channel noise has made the processes of acquisition and tacking difficult. in this paper, we introduce a new pulse generation method which is able to control the bandwidth and center frequency applying modulation method. thus could improve the detection performance of receiving algorithm. Also, we made a system to search maximum perk by applying the proposed algorithm and consequently could guarantee the correct detection. By the result of simulation, when accumulate 10 times at every 2dB band shifting from 0 to 18dB on AWGN channel, we could confirm the proposed method has 97.4% PDR(Pulse Detection Rate) and 1.868% FAR(False Alarm Rate) performance at 4dB SNR and 15% transmission power threshold level.

  • AC generator plays an important role of power system. The large AC generator fault may lead to large impacts or perturbations in power system. And then the protection of a generator has very important role in maintaining stability in a power system. In present, the DFT(discrete Fourier transform) based RDR(ratio differential relay) had been widely applied to a internal fault of a generator stator winding. But DFT has a serious drawback. In the course of transforming a target signal to frequency domain, time information is lost. DWT uses a time-scale region. This paper proposes an advanced fault detection algorithm using DWT(discrete Wavelet transform) to enhance the drawback of conventional DFT based relaying. To evaluate the performance of the proposed relaying, we used the test data which were sampled with 720 [Hz] per cycle and obtained from ATP(alternative transient program) simulation. And we made a comparative study of conventional DFT based RDR and the proposed relaying.

  • We developed an on-line Ultra-high frequency partial discharge monitoring system to prevent a catastrophic failure of gas- insulated switchgears. The system has been tested in the laboratory for detection of various UHF PD signals. We also performed detection sensitivity verification tests and compared them with conventional IEC60270 method.

  • This paper proposes an open-phase fault control system using 3-phase neutral voltage. The proposed control system is designed as a new topology which uses the potential difference between neutral point and ground of three phase. The open-phase detection system is also configured to Y-wiring of three capacitance devices of the same capacity to each line of three phase power source R-S-T. This paper also designs a mobile phone application for remote alarm of open-phase fault.

  • In this paper, we have studied for analysis of the partial discharge(PD) signal based on fuzzy algorism. Partial discharge signal detector is difficult because of partial discharge signal is very non-linear. Also, it is very difficult work that separate partial discharge signal from noise. We constructed partial discharge accumulation detection system that use Labview for detection of non-linear partial discharge signal. And analyzed Partial discharge signal that is detected by Labview system utilizing Fuzzy model.

Design and Implementation of a Microwave Motion Detector with Low Power Consumption

  • In this paper, we propose a design of microwave motion detector using X-band doppler radar sensor to minimize the power consumption. To minimize the power consumption and implement battery operated system, pulse input with 2 KHz, 4% duty cycle is exerted on the doppler radar sensor. In order to simplify the process of working with ATmega2560 microcontroller unit, Arduino compatible board is designed and implemented. Arduino is open source hardware and many library software is published as open source tools. Smartphone app is also proposed and designed as a real-time user interface of the motion detector. The SQLite database on the Android mobile operating system is used for recording raw data of motion detection for post-processing job, such as fast Fourier transform (FFT). Bluetooth interface module is implemented on the motion detection board as a wireless communication interface to the smartphone. The speed of human movement is identified by post-processing FFT.
