  • This paper describes an automatic design system for the parts that compose the power transmission. Power transmission is composed of shaft, gear, clutch, brake and housing. To design power transmission, there are many recurrent calculations and drawings needed with conventional design process. In this paper, we propose three dimensional automatic design system that reduce recurrent calculations and drawings. Developed system consists of two modules; 1) Design expert system module to assist determining design parameters of clutch, brake and gear. 2) Parametric modeling module to make three dimensional solid model automatically. The proposed system has been tested in the fields and found to be a useful system.

  • To reduce the wasted power with using an OP-AMP, 3 circuit supplying the same amount of power to load through overall voltage range can able proposed. With this type of design, the power that induced to the devices in the circuit will be reduced, we can also develope a small size power supply with the OP-AMP developed using this design. If we need a OP-AMP needed to handle higher power than usual, another design technique can be proposed. With substituting one device with the devices connected in series, the power loaded to each devices in the series devices can be reduced. This thesis contents the design of an OP-AMP to use in high power fields with small thermal dissipation.

  • Nuclear safety-class DCS is used for nuclear reactor protection function, which is one of the key facilities to ensure nuclear power plant safety, the maintenance for DCS to keep system in a high reliability is significant. In this paper, Nuclear safety-class DCS system developed by the Nuclear Power Institute of China is investigated, the model of reliability estimation considering nuclear power plant emergency trip control process is carried out using Markov transfer process. According to the System-Subgroup-Module hierarchical iteration calculation, the evolution curve of failure probability is established, and the preventive maintenance optimization strategy is constructed combining reliability numerical calculation and periodic overhaul interval of nuclear power plant, which could provide a quantitative basis for the maintenance decision of DCS system.

  • The advanced node core code CORCA-3D is one of the independent developed codes of NPIC for the nuclear reactor core design. CORCA-3D code can calculate the few-group cross section, solve the 3D diffusion equations, consider the thermal-hydraulic feedback, reconstruct the pin-by-pin power. It has lots of functions such as changing core status calculation, critical searching, control rod value calculation, coefficient calculation and so on. The main theory and functions of CORCA-3D code are introduced and validated with a lot of reactor measured data and the SCIENCE system. Now, CORCA-3D code has been applied in ACP type reactor nuclear cores design.

  • In this study 24 power transmission towers were selected by considering various variables such as power transmission capacity, height and structural type to evaluate their seismic performance using the standard design response spectrum recently announced by the government. In addition, the stresses and sectional forces generated by the current design wind loads and revised seismic ones were compared to review the effects on the design of power transmission towers when the government-required seismic standards were raised. The results of seismic performance evaluation for the target power transmission towers showed that they had seismic capacity of 0.31~0.91g, and that they met the level of the earthquake-resistant special grade, which is the 2,400-year earthquake return periods and secured seismic safety. Further, the sectional forces caused by earthquakes in the towers were 33~82.5% of the ones due to wind loads, and it was also confirmed that the design wind loads were more dominant than design earthquake ones under the elevated seismic standards.

  • The design and analysis of satellite power subsystem is an important driver for the mass, size, and capability of the satellite. Every other satellite subsystem is affected by the power subsystem, and in particular, important issues such as launch vehicle selection, thermal design, and structural design are largely influenced by the capabilities and limitations of the power system. This paper introduces a new electrical power subsystem design program for the rapid development of LEO satellite and shows an example of design results using other LEO satellite design data. The results shows that the proposed design program can be used the optimum sizing and the analytical prediction of the on-orbit performance of satellite electrical power subsystem.

  • The hull form design technique for high speed power boat based on the parametric design method is presented in this paper. While the design methods of conventional vessels that are currently in use have been well developed in various aspects from existing database. However, an easy and simple design program for high speed power boats needs to be provided for the relatively small boat builders who are in lack of experience and skilled manpower. This paper presents a parametric design technique which is aimed to provide an easier creation of a new model by inputting several parameters, such as angles and lengths, which correlate with hydrodynamics characteristic for high speed boats. The paper also introduces the prototype program developed to design power boat with parametric design technique.

  • The design and performance analysis of a power factor corrected (PFC), single-phase, single switch flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter is carried out for low power battery charging applications. The proposed configuration of the flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter consists of only one switch and operates in discontinuous current mode (DCM), resulting in simplicity in design and manufacturing and reduction in input current total harmonic distortion (THD). The design procedure of the flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter is presented for the battery charging application. To verify and investigate the design and performance, a simulation study of the flyback buck-boost converter in DCM is performed using the PSIM6.0 platform. A laboratory prototype of the proposed single switch flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter is developed and test results are presented to validate the design and developed model of the system.

  • This paper introduces the electronic ballast for high pressure sodium (HPS) lamps which provides power regulation during the whole lamp life without using a closed-loop power control system, in spite of large variations of lamp characteristics resulting from lamp aging. The structure of the electronic ballast and the parameters of HPS lamps are described. A mathematical model for the ballast is developed and used for the design and analysis of the ballast. A design procedure is presented to design the ballast which provides intrinsic power regulation over the whole lamp life. To improve the technical specifications of the ballast, the practical and standard constraints are considered in the design. According to the design procedure, an electronic ballast for 250-W HPS lamps is designed. All theoretical analyses are verified with the help of a semi-industrial experimental setup. The results validate that the designed ballast provides power regulation during the whole lamp life.
