  • A simple disposable thick-film potentiometric strip has been developed and evaluated for hydroponics application. The strip consisted of low ion-selective electrodes (ISE) fabricated by screen-printing technology. The electrochemical responses of ion sensors for nitrate, ammonium, potassium, and magnesium were measured with specially designed 16-channel low voltage signal transducers. The analytical characteristics of the sensors were comparable with those of conventional ISE sensors. The thick-film sensors exhibit linear relationships over five concentration decades. The concentration of N $O_3$ - ion in standard solution can be determined by direct potentiometric measurements without any conditioning before measurements. However, measurement of $K^{+}$, N $H_4$$^{+}$, and $Mg^{2+}$ ionic concentrations in nutrient solutions seems not feasible.

  • A series of laboratory experiments was conducted to investigate the fixation characteristics of poly(vinylalcohol)-poly(methacrylic acid)(PVA-PMAA) mixed solution on the soluble ${\gamma}$- radionuclides. Using the potentiometric titration technique, it was found out that the PVA and PMAA in a solution form intermacromolecular complex. The mobilized portion of each radionuclide by water from sand surface treated with a fixative was measured by ${\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy. The mobilized portion of minor radionuclides such as 241Am, 154Eu, 155Eu and 144Ce were higher than those of 134Cs and 137Cs. The capability of PVA-PMAA system was better among the candidate solutions for the fixation of total ${\gamma}$-radioactivity. 134,137Cs which is composed of more than 85 % of total ${\gamma}$-radioactivity could be fixed effectively by the PVA-PMAA solution.

  • Polymeric membrane electrodes for acetate anion based on meso-(${\alpha}$,${\alpha}$,${\alpha}$,${\alpha}$)-5,10,15,20-tetrakis[2-(penta-fluorophenylurea) phenyl]porphyrin I and similar urea-functionalized porphyrins Ⅱ-Ⅳ as neutral ionophores were prepared. The membrane based on porphyrin I exhibits the best potentiometric properties in pH 6.0 rather than pH 7.0: linear stable response over a wide concentration range (6.0 ${\times}$$10^{-5}$-1.0 ${\times}$$10^{-2}$) with a slope of -59.6 mV/decade and a detection limit of log[CH3CO$O^-$] = -5.32. Selectivity coefficients obtained from the matched potential method (MPM) in pH 6.0 indicate that interferences of hydrophobic anions are very small for the membranes of porphyrins I and II having the strong withdrawing group. The electronic effect of urea-functionalized porphyrins and pH effect of buffer solutions are discussed on the potentiometric response.

  • A series of complexes of bivalent transition metal ions with acetyl benzal dehydehydrazone and its derivatives of general formula ML have been prepared and characterized with the help of conductometric, photometric and infrared studies. The stability constants and related thermodynamic functions of complexes were determined using the potentiometric technique at different temperatures. The formation of complexes is exothermic process with covalency nature. The electrical conductivity of some solid complexes was measured in the temperature range 289-353 K. The results revealed semiconducting properties for the studied complexes.

  • An imprinted potentiometric sensor was developed for direct and selective determination of gabapentin. Sensor is based on carbon paste electrode adapted by graphene oxide that is decorated with silver nanoparticles and mixed with molecularly imprinted polymers nanoparticles using gabapentin as a template molecule. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by Fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Under optimal experimental conditions, the studied sensor exhibited high selectivity and sensitivity with LOD of $4.8{\times}10^{-11}mol\;L^{-1}$. It provided a wide linearity range from $1{\times}10^{-10}$ to $1{\times}10^{-3}mol\;L^{-1}$ and high stability for more than 3 mo. The sensor was effectively used for the determination of gabapentin in pharmaceutical tablets and spiked plasma samples.

  • The present method is to describe a potentiometric norfloxacin electrode system characterized by a membrane, based on the use of norfloxacin (NF) complex with ion-association reagents. These complexes were dissolved in DMSO, DMF acetonitrile or acetone and dispersed in plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) matrix. The picric acid complex electrode exhibited near-Nernstian response for NF in acetate buffer solution (pH 4.0) with a slope of 53.03 mV/decade. And linear response over the range of 10$^{-5}$ to 10$^{-3}$M solution of NE. The ingredients in tablet, capsule and biological important organic acids were not interfere.

  • Potentiometric characteristics of DOS plasticized PVC-based membranes containing upper-rim calix[4]crown neutral carrier to various metal cations and protonated alkylamines have been examined. Although the calix[4]crown-based membrane electrodes exhibited substantial emf responses to alkali and alkaline earth metal cations, their high detection limits (- log[Cs+]=4.5) and sub-Nernstian response slopes (48 mV/pCs+) to the most selective cation, cesium, indicate that the metal cation complexing ability of calix[4]crown is much weaker than that of macrocyclic crown ethers. However, the calix[4]crown-based membrane electrodes exhibited near-Nernstian response slopes (56 mV/decade for hexylNH3+) with low detection limits (log[hexylNH3+]= - 6.7) to most alkylammonium ions compared to those of blank (DOS plasticized PVC membrane with no ionophore) or crown ether-based membranes. While the selectivity patterns of blank and crown ether-based membranes are determined primarily by the lipophilicity of alkylammonium ions, the membranes doped with calix[4]crown ionophore could effectively discriminate the steric shapes of nonpolar alkyl groups of alkylammonium ions.
