  • Path planning is an essential problem to make virtual characters navigate in many applications including computer games. In many cases, multiple characters move in a group and qualitative aspects of planned paths are emphasized rather than optimality unlike Robotics. In this paper, we propose a two-level path planning algorithm in which the global path is planned for a single character specified as a leader and then the local path is planned to avoid dynamic obstacles while the group following this path. The space for group movement is achieved in the form of square grid array called a grid window. Member characters are located relatively to the leader within a space and moved. The static environment is reduced to the configuration space of this grid window to generate a roadmap on which a grid window can move. In local path planning, only the leader avoids dynamic obstacles by using an artificial potential field and the rest of members are located relatively to the leader in the grid window, which reduces computational load. Efficient algorithms to implement the proposed planning methods are introduced. The simulation results show that a group can handle with dynamic obstacles effectively while moving along the planned path for a static environment.

  • Electron beam generator of cold cathode type has been developed for industrial application, for example, waste water cleaning, flue gas cleaning, and pasteurization etc. The operational principle is based on the emission of secondary electrons from cold cathode when ions in the plasma hit the cathode, which are accelerated toward exit window by the gradient of an electric potential. The characteristics of secondary electron emission are studied by comparing total cathode current with ion current.

  • The historic discovery of gravitational waves through direct detection by the LIGO observatories in the USA, in principle, opens up a new window for astronomy. In practice, however, the true launch of gravitational-wave astronomy will await the global array of LIGO like observatories including the planned LIGO-India observatory recently flagged off by the Union cabinet of India. I will review the momentous discovery, the potential of gravitational-wave astronomy and the promise of LIGO-India.

  • Classification of Electroencephalogram(EEG) makes one of key roles in the field of clinical diagnosis, such as detection for epilepsy. Spectrum analysis using the fourier transform(FT) uses the same window to signals, so classification rate decreases for nonstationary signals such as EEG's. In this paper, wavelet power spectrum method using wavelet transform which is excellent in detection of transient components of time-varying signals is applied to the classification of three types of Event Related Potential(EP) and compared with the result by fourier transform. In the experiments, two types of photic stimulation, which are caused by eye opening/closing and artificial light, are used to collect the data to be classified. After choosing a specific range of scales, scale-averaged wavelet spectrums extracted from the wavelet power spectrum is used to find features by Back-Propagation(13P) algorithm. As a result, wavelet analysis shows superiority to fourier transform for nonstationary EEG signal classification.

  • Nl and N2 gross neural action potentials were measured from the round window of the guinea pig cochlea at the onset of the acoustic stimuli. Nl -N2 audiograms were made by means of regulating stimulant intensities in order to produce constant Nl -N2 potentials as criteria for different input tone pip frequencies. The lowest threshold was measured with an input tone pip 15 dB SPL in intensity and 12 KHz in frequency when the animal was in normal physiological condition. The procedure of experimental measurements is explained in detail. This experimental approach is very useful for the investigation of the Cochlear function. Both nonlinear and active functions of the Cochlea can be monitored by Nl -N2 audiograms. Key words : Guinea Pig, Cochlea, Wl and N2 Gross Neural Action Potential, Nl -N2 audiogram.

  • During wartime, the operation of engineering equipment plays a pivotal role in bolstering the combat prowess of military units. To fully harness this combat potential, it is imperative to provide efficient support precisely when and where it is needed most. While previous research has predominantly focused on optimizing equipment combinations to expedite individual mission performance, our model considers routing challenges encompassing multiple missions and temporal constraints. We implement a comprehensive analysis of potential wartime missions and developed a routing model for the operation of engineering equipment that takes into account multiple missions and their respective time windows of required start and completion time. Our approach focused on two primary objectives: maximizing overall capability and minimizing mission duration, all while adhering to a diverse set of constraints, including mission requirements, equipment availability, geographical locations, and time constraints.

  • Passive radiative cooling is a promising technology for cooling objects without energy input. Passive radiative cooling works by radiating heat from the surface, which then passes through the atmosphere and into space. Achieving efficient passive radiative cooling is mainly accomplished by using materials with high emissivity in the atmospheric window (8-13 ㎛). Research has shown that polymers tend to exhibit high emissivity in this spectral range. In addition to elastomers, other materials with potential for passive radiative cooling include metal oxides, carbon-based materials, and polymers. The structure of a passive radiative cooling device can affect its cooling performance. For example, a device with a large surface area will have a greater amount of surface area exposed to the sky, which increases the amount of thermal radiation emitted. Passive radiative cooling has a wide range of potential applications, including building cooling, electronics cooling, healthcare, and transportation. Current research has focused on improving the efficiency of passive radiative cooling materials and devices. With further development, passive radiative cooling can significantly affect a wide range of sectors.

  • The objective of this work Is to design, fabricate, and characterize pseudo-capacitor using amorphous $MnO_2\;nH_2O$ electrode material. The cyclic voltammogram under 100mV/s scan rate of the material shows the electrochemically stable potential window of 1V and the specific capacitance of 250F/g. The TDMA pulse test result indicates that the TDMA system (2 parallel-pseudo-capacitor systems) has the ohmic voltage drop of 0.22V and the capacitor voltage drop of 0.38V. The total voltage drop of the TDMA system is 0.60V and less than 1V of which value is the maximum voltage drop requirement or the TDMA satellite phone. Also, the TDMA system had the ESR of $55m{\Omega}$ and the capacitance of 105mF. Therefore, it is confirmed that the TDMA system has the application feasibility as load-leveling capacitor for the satellite phone.

  • A hydrophilic alkaline room temperature ionic liquid electrolyte (RT-IL) carrying hydroxide ion as an anion and 1-benzyl-3-butylimidazolium as a cation was synthesized. Electrochemical, physical and structural properties of the synthesized RT-IL were characterized using cyclic voltammetry, ionic conductivity, viscosity, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), FT-IR, and 1H-NMR measurements. High ionic conductivity and low viscosity characteristics comparable to 0.1 M KCl electrolyte solution were achieved for the RT-IL in addition to a wide electrochemical potential window of about 4.4 V. The results indicate that the RT-IL is promising for future applications as an alternative electrolyte to energy and environmental research fields.
