  • The steel fiber reinforced concrete may affect substantially to the tension stiffening at post cracking behavior. Even if several tension stiffening models exist, they are for plain and normal strength concrete. Thus, the development of tension stiffening models for steel fibrous high strength RC members are necessary at this time when steel fiber reinforced and high strength concretes are common in use. This paper presents tension stiffening effects from experimental results on direct tension members with the main variables such as concrete strength, concrete cover depth, steel fiber quantity and aspect ratio. The comparison of existing models against experimental results indicated that linear reduced model closely estimated the test results at normal strength level but overestimated at high strength level. Discontinuity stress reduced model underestimated at both strength levels. These existing models were not valid enough in applying at steel fibrous high strength concrete because they couldn't consider the concrete strength nor section area. Thus, new tension stiffening models for high strength and steel fiber reinforced concrete were proposed from the analysis of experimental results, considering concrete strength, rebar diameter, concrete cover depth, and steel fiber reinforcement.

  • The statistical regression model is one of the most frequently used clinical analysis methods. It has basic assumption of linearity, additivity and normal distribution of data. However, most of biological data in medical field are nonlinear and unevenly distributed. To overcome the discrepancy between the basic assumption of statistical model and actual biological data, we propose a new analytical method based on artificial neural network. The newly developed multilayer perceptron(MLP) is trained with 120 data set (60 normal, 60 patient). On applying test data, it shows the discrimination power of 0.76. The diabetic risk factors were also identified from the MLP neural network model and the logistic regression model. The signigicant risk factors identified by MLP model were post prandial glucose level(PP2), sex(male), fasting blood sugar(FBS) level, age, SBP, AC and WHR. Those from the regression model are sex(male), PP2, age and FBS. The combined risk factors can be identified using the MLP model. Those are total cholesterol and body weight, which is consistent with the result of other clinical studies. From this experiment we have learned that MLP can be applied to the combined risk factor analysis of biological data which can not be provided by the conventional statistical method.

  • Spermatogenesis and testis development are highly structured physiological processes responsible for post-pubertal fertility in stallions. Spermatogenesis comprises spermatocytogenesis, meiosis, and spermiogenesis. Although germ cell degeneration is a continuous process, its effects are more pronounced during spermatocytogenesis and meiosis. The productivity and efficiency of spermatogenesis are directly linked to pubertal development, degenerated germ cell populations, aging, nutrition, and season of the year in stallions. The multiplex interplay of germ cells with somatic cells, endocrine and paracrine factors, growth factors, and signaling molecules contributes to the regulation of spermatogenesis. A cell-tocell communication within the testes of these factors is a fundamental requirement of normal spermatogenesis. A noteworthy development has been made recently on discovering the effects of different somatic cells including Leydig, Sertoli, and peritubular myoid cells on manipulation the fate of spermatogonial stem cells. In this review, we discuss the self-renewal, differentiation, and apoptotic roles of somatic cells and the relationship between somatic and germ cells during normal spermatogenesis. We also summarize the roles of different growth factors, their paracrine/endocrine/autocrine pathways, and the different cytokines associated with spermatogenesis. Furthermore, we highlight important matters for further studies on the regulation of spermatogenesis. This review presents an insight into the mechanism of spermatogenesis, and helpful in developing better understanding of the functions of somatic cells, particularly in stallions and would offer new research goals for developing curative techniques to address infertility/subfertility in stallions.

  • The purpose of this article is to introduce a new virtual orthodontic treatment (VOT) system, which can be used to construct three-dimensional (3D) virtual models, establish a 3D virtual setup, enable the placement of the virtual brackets at the predetermined position, and fabricate the transfer jig with a customized bracket base for indirect bonding (IDB) using the stereolithographic technique. A 26-year-old woman presented with anterior openbite, crowding in the upper and lower arches, and narrow and tapered upper arch, despite having an acceptable profile and balanced facial proportion. The treatment plan was rapid palatal expansion (RPE) without extraction. After 10 days of RPE, sufficient space was obtained for decrowding. After a 10-week retention period, accurate pretreatment plaster models were obtained using silicone rubber impression. IDB was performed according to the protocol of the VOT system. Crowding of the upper and lower arches was effectively resolved, and anterior openbite was corrected to normal overbite. Superimposition of the 3D virtual setup models (3D-VSM) and post-treatment 3D virtual models showed that the latter deviated only slightly from the former. Thus, the use of the VOT system helped obtain an acceptable outcome in this case of mild crowding treated without extraction. More cases should be treated using this system, and the pre- and post-treatment virtual models should be compared to obtain feedback regarding the procedure; this will support doctors and dental laboratory technicians during the learning curve.

  • New effective techniques to repair "small" design errors in integrated circuits are presented. As semiconductor chip complexity increases and the design period becomes tight, errors frequently remain in a fabricated chip making revisions required. Full mask revision significantly increases the cost and time-to-market. However, since many "small" errors can be repaired by modifying several connections among the circuit blocks and spare cells, errors can frequently be repaired by revising metal layers. Metal only revision takes significantly less time and involves less cost when compared to full mask revision, since mask revision costs multi-million dollars while metal revision costs tens of thousand dollars. In our research, new techniques are developed to further reduce the number of metal layers to be revised. Specifically, we partition the circuit blocks with higher error probabilities and extend the terminals of the signals crossing the partition boundaries to the preselected metal repair layers. Our partitioning and pin extension to repair layers can significantly improve the repairability by revising only the metal repair layers. Since pin extension may increase delay slightly, this method can be used for non-timing-critical parts of circuits. Experimental results by using academia and industrial circuits show that the revision of the two metal layers can repair many "small" errors at low-cost and with short revision time. On the average, when 11.64% of the spare cell area and 24.72% of the extended pins are added to the original circuits, 83.74% of the single errors (and 72.22% of the double errors) can be corrected by using two metal revision. We also suggest methods to use our repair techniques with normal commercial vender tools.

  • In this paper, it is suggested that the selection method of optimal parameter of power system stabilizer(PSS) with robustness in low frequency oscillation for power system using Real Variable Elitism Genetc Algorithm(RVEGA). The optimal parameters were selected in the case of power system stabilizer with one lead compensator, and two lead compensator. Also, the frequency responses characteristic of PSS, the system eigenvalues criterion and the dynamic characteristic were considered in the normal load and the heavy load, which proved usefulness of RVEGA compare with Yu's compensator design theory.

  • The present study investigates the clinical applicability of a new device which objectively measures nasal resonating vibration via piezoelectric vibratory sensor from 10 normal volunteers, 10 patients with definite hypernasality and 10 nasal polyposis patients. For the assessment of the hypernasality, the ratio of 'ng' to 'a' as well as that of 'mama' to 'papa' passages were used. For the evaluation of hyponasality, the ratio of nasal vibration post- to pre-induced cul-de-sac resonation was calculated. In the control group, the ratio of ng/a and mama/papa passages was larger than 8, while in the hypernasality group, the ratio was markedly lower. The vibratory signals of 'a' and 'ng' increased markedly in the control group and the hypernasality group after inducing cul-de-sac resonation, while in the hyponasality group, the change was minimal.

  • The restoration of extensive zygomatic complex defects is a surgical challenge owing to the difficulty of accurately restoring the normal anatomy, symmetry, proper facial projection and facial width. In the present study, an extensive post-traumatic zygomatic bone defect was reconstructed using a custom-made implant that was made with a selective laser melting (SLM) technique. The computer-designed implant had the proper geometry and fit perfectly into the defect without requiring any intraoperative adjustments. A one-year follow-up revealed a stable outcome with no complications.

  • Building on the DC interaction model between a parent company and its spin-offs, we examine that a dyadic relationship can be differentiated within the functions of space, motivation, and time. We investigate that these three factors encompassing the parent-spin-off DC relationship can be applicable to both linear(i.e., geographic proximity and low spin-off CEO's salary is positive) and nonlinear(i.e., too much frequency of new spin-off creation is as harmful as too little) effects on determining the performance of spin-off firms. The direction of causality is underpinned by social capital, human capital, and compensation-activation theory rather than by the normal consequences of previous empirical research. Further, our results suggest the overlap between DC and entrepreneurship; namely, spin-off firms create, learn, and exploit opportunities through a reconfiguration of parent DC so that DC establishes itself as a key concept in the entrepreneurship domain.

  • This paper begins with the question of whether "on-tact" Christian education, which has become the most new-normal phenomenon since Corona 19, will remain as a decisive form of Christian education even in the post-Corona era. In order to answer that question, this study explored whether on-tact Christian education has its own domain of experience and educational elements that cannot be replaced by face-to-face education, specifically focusing on "types of on-tact Christian Education", "discussion of digital church" and "digital epistemology". Through research on "types of onn-tact Christian education," it confirmed that, when viewed on the basis of 'participation' or 'communication', on-tact Christian education has an independent field of experience and educational elements. Through contemplation on "digital ecclesiology", it found that on-tact education is the decisive channel for Christian education to reach digital generation. It also found a new metaphor from the "network" concept for the public church and the Kingdom of God. This paper also found that we experience the perception of the body that is expanded through the combination between the body and technology in the digital world, and that this is a unique epistemology that occurs only in the digital world. Based on the above points, it affirmed that on-tact Christian education is not simply a means of supplementing face-to-face education in the era of COVID-19, but is a Christian education that has an independent field of experience and educational power that face-to-face education cannot replace. Thus it foresees that on-tact Christian education will continue to expand as a center and form of Christian education even in the post-corona era.
