Manufacturing Multi-degradable Food Packaging Films and Their Degradibility (복합분해성 플라스틱 식품포장 필름의 제조 및 분해성)

  • Multi-degradable master hatch (M/B) was prepared and 0.05 mm polyethylene (PP) food packaging films containing 0, 10, and 20% M/B were manufactured by inflation film processing. The films were exposed to UV radiation, fungi, and heat in order to observe their photolysis, biodegradability, and thermal degradability, respectively. While pure PP film maintained more than 70% of its original elongation after 8 weeks of UV radiation, an almost perfect loss in the elongation of PP film containing 20% M/B was observed. Significant decreases in elongation of PP films by heat treatment $(68{\pm}2^{\circ}C)$ were also found in samples containing the multi-degradable M/B. By observing changes in film surface after the inoculation of fungi using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the biodegradability of plastic film could be accelerated with the addition of multi-degradable M/B. The results of the mulching test in yard showed that adding multi-degradable M/B can effectively degrade plastic films in natural environmental conditions without interrupting the growth of plants.

  • African marigold is a common plant easily available in many flower beds. It has been reported as a practical and prospective resource of dyes since the dyes can be extracted from their bodies as well as petals. In this research, cotton and ramie fabrics which are made from natural cellulose were dyed using the extract of the African Marigold which is a variety of marigold. Dyeing tests were carried out under different pH of the dye solution and mordants. Dyeability was evaluated by examining and measuring surface color, K/S value, and the changes in the maximum absorption wavelength. The probability of improving dyeability was investigated by pre-mordanting with pre-treated chitosan. For the dyeing with marigold extract, the color tone did not differ by pre-mordanting and non-mordanting. Reaction with post-mordanting was excellent, which was colored in various yellow series. The best dyeability was achieved in dye solution of pH 6.5-7.0 which is not conditioned. The largest K/S value and color difference were obtained in tin mordanting. The dye uptake was greatly increased in chitosan pre-treated mordanting compared with the post-mordanting without chitosan pre-treatment. Due to its high heat resistance, African Marigold extract is easy for dye extraction and dyeing, and its dyeability is excellent for natural cellulose fibers. Also, colorfastness was proved to be practically usable.

  • ITO thin films have been deposited on PET substrate by reactive dc magnetron sputtering without substrate heater and post heat treatment. The electrical and optical properties of as-deposited films are dominated by oxygen gas ratio. As the experimental results, the excellent ITO films are prepared on PET substrate at the operating conditions as follows: operating pressure of 5 mTorr, target-substrate distance of 4.5 cm, dc power of $20{\sim}30W$, and oxygen gas ratio of 10 %. The optical transmittance is above 80 % at 550 nm, and the sheet resistance and resistivity of films are $24{\Omega}$/square and $1.5{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}cm$, respectively.

Characterization of F- and Al-codoped ZnO Transparent Conducting Thin Film prepared by Sol-Gel Spin Coating Method

  • ZnO thin film co-doped with F and Al was prepared on a glass substrate via simple non-alkoxide sol-gel spin coating. For a fixed F concentration, the addition of Al co-dopant was shown to reduce the resistivity mainly due to an increase in electrical carrier density compared with ZnO doped with F only, especially after the second post-heat-treatment in a reducing environment. There was no effective positive contribution to the reduction in resistivity due to the mobility enhancement by the addition of Al co-dopant. Optical transmittance of the ZnO thin film co-doped with F and Al in the visible light domain was shown to be higher than that of the ZnO thin film doped with F only.

  • Flash butt weldability of 590MPa dual phase steel is carried out under micro metallographical examination and macro mechanical property tests. The objective of present study is to investigate the cause that brings on bond line fracture, and is to improve mechanical properties of the flash butt welded joint. The joint of flash butt welding has a superior tensile property, but has bad formability due to oxide formed at bond interface. The HAZ softening in the weld joint does not show. It was found that mechanical properties were increased with optimizing welding parameters and making application of oil dripping and post-weld heat treatment.

  • Fabrication process of metal/intermetallic laminated composites by using self-propagating high temperature synthesis(SHS) reactions between Ni and Al elemental metal foils have been investigated. Al foils were sandwiched between Ni foils and heated in a vacuum hot press to the melting point of aluminium. SHS reaction kinetics was thermodynamically analyzed through the final volume fraction of the unreacted Al related with the initial thickness ratio of Ni:Al and diffusion bonding stage before SHS reaction. Thermal aging of laminated composites resulted in the formation of functionally gradient series of intermetallic phases. Microstructure showed that the main phases of intermetallics were NiAl and $Ni_3Al$ having higher strength at room and high temperatures. The volume fractions of intermetallic phases were measured as 82.4, 58.6, 38.4% in 1:1, 2:1, 4:1 initial thickness ratio of Ni:Al.

  • In this paper, we established baseline information and insight on residual stress relief mechanism associated with furnaced and local PWHT(post weld heat treatment) operation. Based on FEM analysis results, we suggested that furnaced PWHT stress relief mechanism was based on creep relaxation and local PWHT stress relief mechanism involved complicated interactions between plasticity and creep. In case of furnaced PWHT, significant stress relaxation was occurred in the early stage of PWHT. In case of local PWHT, stress relaxation magnitude was increased as PWHT time increased. Finally, We have proposed that detailed furnaced and local PWHT procedure, and qualification criteria to support current codes of practices.

  • In general, structural integrity of rolling stock structures should last more than 25 years. During the lifetime corrosive degradation occurs. For structural design and diagnosis, quantitative relationship between corrosive degradation and variation of mechanical properties such as tensile strength and fatigue strength is needed. In this study, first of all we established the atmospheric corrosion test procedure. At regular intervals using specimens of SM490A and SS400 on the atmospheric corrosion test bed, we carried out tensile and fatigue tests. The fatigue strength decreases as the atmospheric corrosion period increases. In addition we studied the effect of post-weld heat treatment on the tensile and fatigue behaviour and performed electrochemical corrosion tests.

  • Up to now, most of studies on mechanical properties in friction welded components are about tensile and bending strength. However the fatigue studies on the friction-welded components subjected to repeated stress are not available. The purposes of this study are the development of fundamental design and the development of in-process real-time weld quality evaluation technique by acoustic emission for the bar-to-bar dissimilar friction welding of hydraulic valve spool steels.

  • For structural design and diagnosis, quantitative relationship between corrosive degradation and variation of mechanical properties such as tensile strength and fatigue strength is needed. But it is difficult to find data associated with corrosive degradation of structural structures. In this study, first of all we established the atmospheric corrosion test procedure.
