The study introduces and validates a model of post-traumatic growth among parents of children with special needs. The model incorporates cognitive processes, coping strategies, and sociocultural factors as intra-personal variables. The statistical analysis unveiled significant pathways that connect the factors, explaining 71% of the variance associated with post-traumatic growth. The study highlighted intentional reflection and robust decentralization skills as crucial factors that predict post-traumatic growth. Deliberate rumination functioned as a mediating factor, reducing the impact of trauma and facilitating post-traumatic growth, while social support played a crucial role in initiating purposeful rumination. The study findings indicate that the effect of self-disclosure on post-traumatic growth is not direct but rather indirect, as it is mediated by its influence on social support and deliberate rumination. The study underscores the significance of examining particular characteristics of social support networks and suggests integrating additional variables for future research, such as gender, types of traumatic events, and the age of children with disabilities.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influencing factors of post-traumatic growth in patients with gastrointestinal cancer. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted, enrolling 120 patients with gastrointestinal cancer. Their general characteristics, disease-related characteristics, perceived illness intrusiveness, levels of optimism, social support, and post-traumatic growth were assessed through self-administered questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, oneway ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean score of post-traumatic growth was 52.74 points(total score of 92 points). Among the subscales of post-traumatic growth, levels of the preciousness of life were the highest, and relating with others was the lowest. The post-traumatic growth was found to be significantly correlated with optimism (r=.48, p<.001), social support (r=.47, p<.001), and depression (r=-.37 p<.001). Factors associated with post-traumatic growth were optimism (β=.36, p<.001), social support (β=.31, p<.001), and depression (β=-.27, p<.001). Conclusion: Given that prevalence of gastrointestinal cancer is increasing in Korea, identifying general, psychological, and social factors affecting post-traumatic growth among this population will be helpful in clinical practice. Integrated strategies to increase optimism and social support and lower depression should be considered to improve the post-traumatic growth of patients with gastrointestinal cancer.
Purpose: The objective of this study is to identify the effects of self-esteem and problem focused coping on post-traumatic growth among police officers. Methods: The data were collected from the 137 police officers in ten police offices of G city in July 2014. The collected data were analyzed for descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical regression using the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: Post-traumatic growth was positively correlated with self-esteem and problem focused coping. Self-esteem and problem focused coping had a significant effects on post-traumatic growth. The explained variance for post-traumatic growth was 19.0%. Conclusion: To improve post-traumatic growth of police officers, strategies to increase self-esteem and problem focused coping are needed.
Purpose: This study was conducted for Pohang citizens who experienced Pohang earthquake damage. The purpose of this study is to examine how these post-traumatic stress level affect post-traumatic growth and to examine the mediating effects of stress coping on the causal relationship between post-traumatic stress level and post-traumatic growth. Method: The survey was conducted for the citizens who experienced Pohang earthquake, and the survey data were statistically analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 program. Result: Post traumatic stress level has been shown to affect post traumatic growth. In addition, as a result of examining the mediating effect of stress coping method on the relationship among these variables, the problem solving center and the social support method had a mediating effect, but the evasion method did not mediate. Conclusion: The post-traumatic stress level caused by disasters such as earthquakes was found to be able to overcome the obstacle and grow after trauma, as the coping method is problem solving and social support.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of unconditional self-acceptance and self-exposure of trainees on the post-traumatic growth and to develop a program to achieve post-traumatic growth beyond the previous level without suffering from psychopathological consequences such as post-traumatic stress disorder I wanted to help. For this purpose, unconditional self-acceptance, self-exposure, and Korean post-traumatic growth scale were used. First, it was confirmed that unconditional self-acceptance and self-exposure of firefighters are correlated with post-traumatic growth. Second, hierarchical regression analysis showed that unconditional self-acceptance has more influence on self-acceptance and post-traumatic growth than self-acceptance of firefighters. Based on the results of this study, we propose the program development and therapeutic intervention strategies to promote post-traumatic growth of firefighters.
This study examines the types and characteristics of traumatic events middle-aged women experience and to explore the effects of attachment in the process of post-traumatic growth and forming a self-realization. 221 of participants were middle-aged women from the area of Seoul, Gyeong-Gi and the survey was composed of post-traumatic experience questionnaire, attachment scale, post-traumatic growth scale, self-realization scale. The type and characteristics of traumatic experience by middle-aged women were executed by frequency analysis and correlation with the structural equation model validation was used in order to analyze the relationship between each variable. the major findings are First, the loss of someone close(such as death, breaking up, divorce, breaking off) was reported as something general yet the biggest crisis event, Second, looking at the relationship between attachment, post-traumatic growth and self-realization, the secure parental attachment and spiritual transformation showed the correlation in all subregions except the subvariables of humanity and self-acceptance and Third, the results of Structural Equation Modeling shows that attachment has a static effect on post-traumatic growth and self-realization, and post-traumatic growth appeared to be the mediating factor of attachment and self-realization.
Purpose: Caring for a vulnerable premature baby is a challenging task, but some mothers experience growth through that process. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing post-traumatic growth in mothers with premature infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit. Methods: A correlational research design was used and 105 mothers of premature infants were recruited from an online community. Data were collected from January 15 to January 25, 2019. Post-traumatic growth was measured using the Korean version of the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the t-test, analysis of variance, the Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: The final model developed in this study explained 45.5% of post-traumatic growth (F=13.66, p<.001). Resilience (β=.54, p<.001) was the strongest predictor of post-traumatic growth, followed by the age of the mother when giving birth (β=.17, p=.028) and current employment status (β=.17, p=.049). Conclusion: For mother with premature infants to grow psychologically after their experience, it may be needed to support them to develop and strengthen their resilience through either education or their own support network.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was a) to examine the effect of positive family relationships on post-traumatic growth in cancer patients, and b) to verify the moderating effect of spiritual sensitivity. Methods: The subjects were cancer patients, both outpatients and inpatients selected from major hospitals specialized in cancer treatment using judgement sampling. A self-administered questionnaire survey was given to cancer patients, and a total of 208 cases were collected but only 201 cases were used in the final analysis due to seven unclear and inadequate questionnaires. We performed descriptive statistics to identify the prevalence for each variable, and the moderating effect was verified through multiple regression analysis. Results: The main results are as follows. First, the average post-traumatic growth of the subjects was 3.01 (0-5 points). Second, the positive family relations of the subjects were 2.58 (0-5 points) and the average of spiritual sensitivity was 2.93 (1-5 points). Third, positive family relationship of cancer patients was positively correlated to post-traumatic growth, and spiritual sensitivity was verified as a moderator to positive family relationship enhancing the post -traumatic growth. Conclusion: These findings imply the importance of post-traumatic growth in cancer patients as a key intervention point to overcome pain and frustration from cancer. We suggest to develop family therapy programs and services aimed at fostering positive family relationships and meeting the needs of spiritual sensitivity for cancer patients and their families. This study also provides ways to promote post-traumatic growth in social welfare facilities in medical institutions and religious foundations.

This study is a descriptive correlation study investigating the effects of stress disorder symptoms, resilience, and social network on post-traumatic growth in traffic accident patients. The participants were 158 traffic accident cases enrolled from five 100-bed hospitals situated in city C. Data were collected from July 1 to August 31, 2018, and analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression using SPSS / Win23. The explanatory power of post-traumatic growth was determined to be 36.9%, and the factors affecting post-traumatic growth were social network and post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, social networks completely established the relationship between resilience and post-traumatic growth. Our results confirmed that a wider social network and increased symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder of the traffic accident patient are associated with higher post-traumatic growth. Therefore, it is necessary to explore approaches that improve the social networks and resilience to help post-traumatic growth of traffic accident patients. Additional research is required through repetitive and long-term observation of the accident victims.
This study identified the relationship between deliberate rumination of adults who experienced traumas and post-traumatic growth, and examined the mediating model of meaning of life moderated by trauma intensity on deliberate rumination and post-traumatic growth. Participants were 318 male and female adults who experienced traumas. The moderated mediating effect was analysed with PROCESS Macro 3.5 Model 7. Results revealed that deliberate rumination of adults who experienced traumas was positively correlated with trauma intensity, meaning of life, and post-traumatic growth, while meaning of life was positively correlated with post-traumatic growth. In a moderated mediating model for post-traumatic growth, there was significant interaction effect of deliberate rumination and trauma intensity; conditionally indirect effect of deliberate rumination was only significant for whose trauma intensity were high. These findings suggest that adults who did deliberate rumination are more likely to experience post-traumatic growth with finding meaning of life. And, the moderating effect suggests that this influence is only with higher levels of trauma intensity. In conclusion, deliberate rumination of severe traumatic event may lead to post-traumatic growth, and it can be helpful to experience the meaning of life in the process.
