This study was performed to investigate the effects of dietary protein content on recovery of laparotomized rats in terms of urinary epinephrine and norepinephrine plasma epinephrine and norepinephrine, . Fortyeigh male Sprague Dawley rats average-weighing 160g were divided into two diet groups ; LPD(10% low protein diet) group HPD(25% high protein diet) group After 3 days of adaptation period rats were given experimental diet for 14 days. Experimental period consists of 7-days pre-trauma and 7-days post-trauma period. Rats were laparotomized by 4cm abdominal incision under sodium pentobarbital anesthesia. During 7-days before and after the surgery urine and plasma were collected for the analysis of epinephrine and norepine-phrine. The results are as follows: 1) After laparotomy urinary epinephrine level was not increased in two diet groups. Urinary epinephrine concentration of rats in LPD group was considerably increased in post-trauma day 3 and thereafter gradually reduced. By post-trauma day 4 however urinary epinephrine concentration of rats in HPD groups was recovered to pre-trauma level 2) Urinary norepinephrine concentration of rats in LPD group was significantly increased after trauma(p<0.01) and the difference between LPD and HPD in post-trauma average norepinephrine concentration was not significant. 3) Post-traum average plasma epinephrine concentration was higher but not significant than that of pre-truma average in both groups [LPD(19.88ng/ml vs 20.93ng/ml) HPD(17.20ng/ml vs 19.37ng/ml)] 4) Plasma norepinephrine concentration of rats in LPD group was significantly increased in post-trauma period(p<0.01) In HPD group however post-trauma average plasma norepi-nephrine concentration was significantly lower than pre-trauma average. Thus the results suggest that norepinehrine concentration was affected by trauma and rats in HPD group excreted less amount of norepinephrine than rats in LPD group.
Plasma ceramic spray that is applied on a machine part under severe work conditions has been investigated for tribological behavior. The application of ceramic coatings by plasma spray has become essential in tribosystems to produce wear resistance and long life in severe conditions. The purpose of this study was to investigate the wear characteristics of $8\%Y_{2}O_3-ZrO_2$ coating, in view of the effect of post-spay heat treatment. The plasma-sprayed $8\%Y_{2}O_3-ZrO_2$ coating was studied to know the relationship between phase transformations and wear behavior related to post-spray heat treatment. Wear test was carried out with ball on disk type on normal loads of 50N,70N and 90N under room temperature. The phase transformation of phase and the value of residual stress were measured by X-ray diffraction method(XRD). Tribological characteristics and wear mechanisms of coatings were observed by SEM. The tribological wear performance was discussed in the focusing of residual stress. Consequently, post-spray heat treatment plays an important role in decreasing residual stress. Residual stress in the coating system has a significant influence on the wear mechanism of coating.
The frictional behavior of oxide films on top of the plasma nitrocarburized compound layers was investigated in terms of post-oxidation treatment temperatures. The post-oxidation treatment at both temperatures($400^{\circ}C,\;500^{\circ}C$) produced magnetite($Fe_3O_4$) films which led to a significant enhancement in corrosion resistance. However, this process did not result in any improvement in frictional behavior of the nitrocarburized surface. The wear mechanisms were governed predominantly by the abrasive action of the slider on the surface irrespective of the counterface material(SiC and Bearing steel). When the specimen was sliding against a SiC counterface, the oxide films were destroyed during the early stage of the sliding process and the wear debris of the oxide film at the sliding track had a great influence on the friction coefficient. On the other hand, when sliding against a bearing steel counterface, the slider was mainly worn out due to the much higher hardness of the surface hardened layer. The fluctuation of the friction coefficient of $400^{\circ}C$-oxidized/ nitrocarburized specimen is much severer than that of $500^{\circ}C$ specimen, due to the less amount of wear debris.
Piglet health at weaning is compromised due to several stress factors. Following the ban of antibiotic growth promoters new alternatives are required to control these problems. This paper reviews the evidence available for the use of spray dried animal plasma (SDAP) as an alternative to antibiotics in weaning pigs. Data from 75 trials in 43 publications involving over 12,000 piglets (mean values) have been used to calculate the performance responses of piglets according to several factors including SDAP origin, protein source from the control diet being replaced, dose of inclusion, age and weight of the piglets at weaning, sanitary conditions and simultaneous use or not of medication. Although the use of SDAP of all origins results in positive responses, it appears that plasma from porcine origin has the highest efficacy. This could be explained by the specificity of its IgG against porcine pathogens. During the first week post-weaning the response to plasma appears to increase with the inclusion dose, although over the two-week pre-starter period an optimal inclusion level of 4-8% is suggested. SDAP improves feed efficiency more markedly when the piglets are challenged with an experimental infection or when feed does not contain medication, which could be indicative of a lower expenditure of energy and nutrients to build an immune response against the challenge. There is evidence supporting that SDAP IgG and other bioactive substances therein prevent the binding of pathogens to the gut wall and reduce the incidence of diarrhoea in the post-weaning phase. Overall, plasma can be postulated as an excellent alternative to in-feed antimicrobials for piglets in the post-weaning phase.
Studies till date suggest the existence of a fetal biological clock in suprachiasmatic nuclei entrained by the circadian signal from mother. Melatonin from maternal pineal gland reaches to the fetus by crossing every biological barrier including placenta, hence fetuses were exposed to similar melatonin variation as their mother. Experimental modulations of maternal pineal gland activity of pregnant females either by exposing the them to different photoperiodic schedules or by exogenous melatonin treatments till the date of parturition, regulated the fetal plasma level of melatonin, thereby the prenatal (fetal) growth and development. This clearly suggests the maternal transport of melatonin to their fetus through placenta since fetal retina-hypothalamic tract was incomplete. An extension of experimental schedules till 60 days of post-partum period regulated the neonatal pineal gland activity and gonadal maturation along with their plasma levels of melatonin and sex steroids suggesting clearly the phenomenon of maternal transfer of melatonin to their young ones during the post-natal period, when the neonates were solely dependent on the mother's milk for their nutrition and energetic demands. On the basis of above observations we may suggest that the maternal pineal gland activity regulate the prenatal development by passing its melatonin to fetus via placenta and post-natal growth and sexual maturation by passing maternal melatonin to neonates via milk. Hence, the photoperiod perceived by mother is translated into the maternal plasma level of melatonin which not only regulates the prenatal but also the post-natal growth and sexual maturation of neonates.
In this experiment, post-nitriding treatment has been performed at $400^{\circ}C$ on AISI 316 stainless steel which is plasma carburized previously at $430^{\circ}C$ for 15 hours. Plasma nitriding was implemented on AISI 316 stainless steel at various gas compositions (25% N2, 50% N2 and 75% N2) for 4 hours. Additionally, during post nitriding Ar gas was used with H2 and N2 to observe the improvement of treatment. After treatment, the behavior of the hybrid layer was investigated by optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and micro-hardness testing. Potentiodynamic polarization test was also used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of the samples. Meanwhile, it was found that the surface hardness increased with increasing the nitrogen gas content. Also small percentage of Ar gas was introduced in the post nitriding process which improved the hardness of the hardened layer but reduces the corrosion resistance compared with the carburized sample. The experiment revealed that AISI 316L stainless steel showed better hardness and excellent corrosion resistance compared with the carburized sample, when 75% N2 gas was used during the post nitriding treatment. Also addition of Ar gas during post nitriding treatment were degraded the corrosion resistance of the sample compared with the carburized sample.

Objectives: This study compared the effect of hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO) and ammonia ($NH_3$) plasmas on the bond strength of resin cement to fiber posts with conventional treatments. Materials and Methods: Sixty-five fiber posts were divided into 5 groups: Control (no surface treatment); $H_2O_2$ (24% hydrogen peroxide for 1 min); Blasting (blasting with aluminum oxide for 30 sec); $NH_3$ ($NH_3$ plasma treatment for 3 min); HMDSO (HMDSO plasma treatment for 15 min). After the treatments, the Ambar adhesive (FGM Dental Products) was applied to the post surface (n = 10). The fiber post was inserted into a silicon matrix that was filled with the conventional resin cement Allcem Core (FGM). Afterwards, the post/cement specimens were cut into discs and subjected to a push-out bond strength (POBS) test. Additionally, 3 posts in each group were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy. The POBS data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and the Tukey's honest significant difference post hoc test (${\alpha}=0.05$). Results: The Blasting and $NH_3$ groups showed the highest POBS values. The HMDSO group showed intermediate POBS values, whereas the Control and $H_2O_2$ groups showed the lowest POBS values. Conclusion: Blasting and $NH_3$ plasma treatments were associated with stronger bonding of the conventional resin cement Allcem to fiber posts, in a procedure in which the Ambar adhesive was used.
A magnet supporting post installed between the lower TF coil tooled by 4.5 K supercritical helium and the cryostat base is one of the most important components of the superconducting magnet supporting structure for KSTAR Tokamak. This structure should be flexible to absorb thermal shrink of the magnet and also should be rigid to support the magnet weight and the Plasma disruptions load. The Post was designed with stainless steel 316LN and CFRP that have low thermal conductivity and high structural strength at low temperature. In order to verify the possibility of fabrication and the structural safety. a whole scale prototype of the KSTAR magnet supporting post was manufactured and tested. Static and compressive cyclic load tests under the maximum Plasma vertical disruption load and the magnet dead weight were performed. The teat results showed that the magnet supporting post of KSTAR Tokamak was possible to manufacture and structurally rigid.
