  • Polyketides are a class of structurally diverse natural products which possess a wide range of biological activities. These compounds are used throughout medicine and agriculture as antimicrobials, immunosuppressants, antiparasitics, and anticancer agents. While structurally diverse, polyketides are assembled by a common mechanism of decarboxylative condensations of simple malonate derivatives by polyketide synthases (PKSs) in a manner very similar to fatty acid biosynthesis (Fig 1). Computing Post-translation Modification using FTMS

  • Post translational modifications (PTMs) discovery is an important problem in proteomic. In the past, people discover PTMs by Tandem Mass Spectrometer based on ‘bottom-up’ strategy. However, such strategy suffers from the problem of failing to discover all PTMs. Recently, due to the improvement in proteomic technology, Taylor et al. proposed a database software to discover PTMs with ‘topdown’ strategy by FTMS, which avoids the disadvantages of ‘bottom-up’ approach. However, their proposed algorithm runs in exponential time, requires a database of proteins, and needs prior knowledge about PTM sites. In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed which can work without a protein database and can identify modifications in polynomial time. Besides, no prior knowledge about PTM sites is needed.

육성용접을 통한 금형 품질 향상에 관한 연구 (Mold Quality Improvement through Overlay Welding)

  • The frequency of the manufacturing and modification of automotive press dies via overlay welding has recently increased, but the welding quality depends on the operator skills and the working conditions. Therefore, this study presents a way to improve the overlay welding quality regardless of the operator skills. Three welding conditions with different pre- and post-heating treatments were tested on some specimens; the weld surface quality was analyzed by examining the cutting face. The results demonstrated the best quality of the weld surface that was heated before and after the welding.

  • The objective of this study is to estimate and to compensate for the volumetric error of a machine tool. In this paper, the volumetric error is defined and error synthesis model is presented. Then, the volumetric error of workpiece is compared through the virtual machining and a new tool-path is generated to compensate for the error in the post-processor of CAM system using the error synthesis model. By this method, the error is compensated without modification or replacement of a machine tool being in use.

  • Glycinin and $\beta$-conglycinin are the most abundant storage protein in soybean. These proteins are known to be synthesized predominantly during germination and cell expansion phase of seed development for short period, and synthesized not in other tissues. Genes encoding these storage proteins are useful system to study the mechanism of development stage and tissue specific gene expression in eukaryotes, especially plants, at the molecular level. The cDNA and genomic clones coding for glycinin have been isolated and regulation mechanism of the gene expression has been studied. Initially, development and tissue-specific expression of the glycinin gene is regulated at the level of transcription. Post-transcriptional processing is also responsible for delayed accumulation of the mRNA. Translational control of the storage protein gene has not been reported. Post-translational modification is another strategic point to regulate the expression of the gene. It is possible to identify positive and/or negative reguratory clements in vivo by producing transgenic plants agter gene manipulation. Elucidation of activation and repression mechanism of soybean storage protein genes will contribute to the understanding of the other plant and eukaryotic genes at molecular level.

  • The morphology and composition of anodic films, formed on aluminium at various current densities, in the range 1-$100{\;}Am^{-2}$, in the molten bisulphate melt at different temperatures (418-498K), have been studied using transmission electron microscopy of ultramicrotomed film sections, and ion beam thinned films. From the structural analysis of the electron diffraction patterns taken from the ultramicrotomed sections and ion beam thinned films, it can be concluded that the crystal modification process from ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3{\;}to{\;}{\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ proceeds in the following steps : (equation omitted)

맞춤형 주거환경수정을 이용한 노인의 건강상태 차이비교 분석: 커뮤니티케어 사업을 중심으로 (Comparative Analysis of Differences in Health Condition with Elderly Age Using the Customized Home Modification : Focusing on Community Care Projects)

  • 본 연구는 65세 이상 노인 36명을 대상으로 커뮤니티 케어 사업에서의 주거환경수정이 낙상 위험환경과 대상자의 건강상태에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 주거환경 및 대상자의 특성에 대한 평가를 위해 HOME FAST와 WHODAS-K 2.0을 사용하였으며, 집단 사전·사후 실험연구로 진행되었다. 평가를 바탕으로 주거환경수정 서비스를 시행한 결과, 낙상 위험수준은 통계적으로 유의하게 감소되는 변화를 나타내었으며(p<.01), 건강상태의 경우에는 이동성(p<.01)과 사회참여(p<.05)영역에서 통계적으로 유의하게 향상되어 전반적 건강상태(p<.05)의 변화에도 긍정적인 변화를 보이는 것으로 확인되었다. 향후 더 많은 연구 대상자 확보하고, 포괄적인 주거환경 평가를 활용한 연구가 필요하며, 주거환경수정의 질적 서비스 제공을 위해 대상자 우선순위 선별과정과 전문인력 인프라 확충이 요구된다.

Enhanced Carbon Dioxide Adsorption on Post-Synthetically Modified Metal-Organic Frameworks

  • Four MOFs functionalized with 1-Me, 1-Pr, 1-Ph, and 1-$PhCF_3$ were prepared through post-synthetic modifications of a metal-organic framework (MOF), UMCM-1-$NH_2$ (1) with acetic, butyric, benzoic, and 4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic anhydrides, respectively. Methane adsorption measurements between 253 and 298 K at pressures up to 1 bar indicated that both 1-Ph and 1-$PhCF_3$ adsorbed more $CH_4$ than the parent MOF, 1. All the functionalized MOFs adsorbed more $CO_2$ than 1 under conditions similar to the $CH_4$ test. The introduction of functional groups promoted adsorption of both $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ despite significantly reducing Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET) surface area: 4170 (1), 3550 (1-Me), 2900 (1-Pr), 3680 (1-Ph), and 3520 $m^2/g$ (1-$PhCF_3$). Electron-withdrawing aromatic groups (1-Ph, 1-$PhCF_3$) more effectively enhanced $CO_2$ adsorption than electron-donating alkyl groups (1-Me, 1-Pr). In particular, 1-Ph adsorbed 23% more $CO_2$ at 298 K and 50% more at 253 K than 1.
