The force transfer mechanism in positive moment continuity details for prestressed concrete girder bridges is investigated in this paper using a three-dimensional detailed finite element model. Positive moment reinforcement in the form of hairpin bars as recommended by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program Report No 519 is incorporated in the model. The cold construction joint that develops at the interface between girder ends and continuity diaphragms is also simulated via contact elements. The model is then subjected to the positive moment and corresponding shear forces that would develop over the service life of the bridge. The stress distribution in the continuity diaphragm and the axial force distribution in the hairpin bars are presented. It was found that due to the asymmetric configuration of the hairpin bars, asymmetric stress distribution develops at the continuity diaphragm, which can be exacerbated by other asymmetric factors such as skewed bridge configurations. It was also observed that when the joint is subjected to a positive moment, the tensile force is transferred from the girder end to the continuity diaphragm only through the hairpin bars due to the lack of contact between the both members at the construction joint. As a result, the stress distribution at girder ends was found to be concentrated around the hairpin bars influence area, rather than be resisted by the entire girder composite section. Finally, the results are used to develop an approach for estimating the cracking moment capacity at girder ends based on a proposed effective moment of inertia.
Current code provisions for the development of positive moment reinforcement is reviewed and criticized in this paper. Both the flexural bond and development length concepts are neccesary to consider anchorage requirement of reinforcement at beam ends. The curent design codes show unconservatism for the detailing of reinforcement at the beam ends. This study proposes a new design formula for the development of positive moment reinforcement.
In this paper we present the weighted shift operators having the property of moment infinite divisibility. We first review the monotone theory and conditional positive definiteness. Next, we study the infinite divisibility of sequences. A sequence of real numbers γ is said to be infinitely divisible if for any p > 0, the sequence γp = {γpn}∞n=0 is positive definite. For sequences α = {αn}∞n=0 of positive real numbers, we consider the weighted shift operators Wα. It is also known that Wα is moment infinitely divisible if and only if the sequences {γn}∞n=0 and {γn+1}∞n=0 of Wα are infinitely divisible. Here γ is the moment sequence associated with α. We use conditional positive definiteness to establish a new criterion for moment infinite divisibility of Wα, which only requires infinite divisibility of the sequence {γn}∞n=0. Finally, we consider some examples and properties of weighted shift operators having the property of (k, 0)-CPD; that is, the moment matrix Mγ(n, k) is CPD for any n ≥ 0.
The Truncated Moment Problem (TMP) entails finding a positive Borel measure to represent all moments in a finite sequence as an integral; once the sequence admits one or more such measures, it is known that at least one of the measures must be finitely atomic with positive densities (equivalently, a linear combination of Dirac point masses with positive coefficients). On the contrary, there are more general moment problems for which we aim to find a "signed" measure to represent a sequence; that is, the measure may have some negative densities. This type of problem is referred to as the General Truncated Moment Problem (GTMP). The Jordan Decomposition Theorem states that any (signed) measure can be written as a difference of two positive measures, and hence, in the view of this theorem, we are able to apply results for TMP to study GTMP. In this note we observe differences between TMP and GTMP; for example, we cannot have an analogous to the Flat Extension Theorem for GTMP. We then present concrete solutions to lower-degree problems.
Prestressed composite girder bridges with PS tendon at positive flexural moment region offer elastic behavior to higher loads, increased ultimate capacity and reduced structural steel weight. Two beams were tested to examine ultimate behaviors of prestressed composite girder bridges subjected to positive flexural moment. The experimental observations of the Prestressed composite girder bridges subjected to positive flexural moment are investigated and compared to the numerical results obtained by sectional analysis method, and 1-D. and 3-D. finite element analysis methods.
In the previous studies, the authors proposed the use of laminated veneer lumber - carbon fiber reinforced polymer (LVL-CFRP) composite beams for structural application. Bond strength of the LVL-to-CFRP interface and flexural strengthening schemes to increase the bending capacity subjected to positive and negative moment were discussed in the previous works. In this article, theoretical models are proposed to predict the moment capacity when the LVL-CFRP beams are subjected to negative moment. Two common failure modes - CFRP fracture and debonding of CFRP are considered. The non-linear model proposed for positive moment is modified for negative moment to determine the section moment capacity. For the debonding based failure, previously developed bond strength model for CFRP-to-LVL interface is implemented. The theoretical models are validated against the experimental results and then use to determine the moment-rotation behaviour and rotational rigidity to compare the efficacy of various strengthening techniques. It is found that combined use of bi- and uni-directional CFRP U-wrap at the joint performs well in terms of both moment capacity and rotational rigidity.

In this note we examine the effects on subnormality of adding a new weight or changing some weights for a given subnormal weighted shift. We consider a subnormal weighted shift with a positive point mass at the origin by means of continuous functions. Finally, we introduce some methods for evaluating point mass at the origin about moment measures associated with weighted shifts.
In this paper, we consider the quartic moment problem suggested by Curto-Fialkow[6]. Given complex numbers $\gamma{\equiv}{\gamma}^{(4)}\;:\;{\gamma00},\;{\gamma01},\;{\gamma10},\;{\gamma01},\;{\gamma11},\;{\gamma20},\;{\gamma03},\;{\gamma12},\;{\gamma21},\;{\gamma30},\;{\gamma04},\;{\gamma13},\;{\gamma22},\;{\gamma31},\;{\gamma40}$, with ${\gamma00},\;>0\;and\;{\gamma}_{ji}={\gamma}_{ij}$ we discuss the conditions for the existence of a positive Borel measure ${\mu}$, supported in the complex plane C such that ${\gamma}_{ij}=\int\;\={z}^i\;z^j\;d{\mu}(0{\leq}i+j{\leq}4)$. We obtain sufficient conditions for flat extension of the quartic moment matrix M(2). Moreover, we examine the existence of flat extensions for nonsingular positive quartic moment matrices M(2).
The steel shows plastic deformation after the yield point exceeds. Because of overloads, the plastic deformation occurs at the interior support of a continuous bridge. The plastic deformation is concentrated at the interior support, and the permanence deformation at the interior support remains after loads pass. Because local yielding causes the positive moment at the interior support, it is called "auto moment". Auto moment redistributes the elastic moment. Because of redistribution, auto moment decreases the negative moment at the interior support of a continuous bridge. In this paper, the moment-rotation curve from Schalling is used. The Plastic rotation is computed by using Beam-line method, and auto moment is calculated based on the experiment curve. The design example is presented using limit state criterion.
