  • A new type of wearable robot is developed for a disabled person with disabled limbs, that is, a person who cannot intentionally move his/her legs and arms. This robot can enable the disabled person to grip an object using eye movements. A gaze tracking algorithm is employed to detect pupil movements by which the person observes the object to be gripped. By using this gaze tracking 2D information, the object is identified and the distance to the object is measured using a Kinect device installed on the robot shoulder. By using several coordinate transformations and a matching scheme, the final 3D information about the object from the base frame can be clearly identified, and the final position data is transmitted to the DSP-controlled robot controller, which enables the target object to be gripped successfully.

  • Bin picking is a task of picking a small object from a bin. For accurate bin picking, the 3D pose information, position, and orientation of a small object is required because the object is mixed with other objects of the same type in the bin. Using this 3D pose information, a robotic gripper can pick an object using exact distance and orientation measurements. In this paper, we propose a 3D vision technique for accurate measurement of 3D position and orientation of small objects, on which a paper label is stuck to the surface. We use a maximally stable extremal regions (MSERs) algorithm to detect the label areas in a left bin image acquired from a stereo camera. In each label area, image features are detected and their correlation with a right image is determined by a stereo vision technique. Then, the 3D position and orientation of the objects are measured accurately using a transformation from the camera coordinate system to the new label coordinate system. For stable measurement during a bin picking task, the pose information is filtered by averaging at fixed time intervals. Our experimental results indicate that the proposed technique yields pose accuracy between 0.4~0.5mm in positional measurements and $0.2-0.6^{\circ}$ in angle measurements.

  • Recently, various networks have been introduced in the car of the internal and external sides. These have been integrated by one HMI(Human Machine Interface) to control devices of each network and provide information service. The existing vehicle navigation system, providing GPS based vehicle positioning service, has been included to these integrated networks as a default option. The GPS has been used to the most universal device to provide position information by using satellites' signal. But It is impossible to provide the position information when the GPS can't receive the satellites' signal in the area of tunnel, urban canyon, or forest canopy. Thus, this paper propose and implement the method of measuring vehicle position by using the sensing data of internal CAN network and external Wi-Fi network of the integrated car navigation circumstances when the GPS doesn't work normally. The results obtained by implementation shows the proposed method works well by map matching.

  • This paper presents a $4{\times}1$ beam-forming reader antenna system for a new type of RFID based train position detection technology. The required beamwidth of the reader antenna is analytically expressed for different train speeds. The proposed antenna system consists of four rectangular patch elements and two switching couplers which are designed, without any impedance matching networks, for two different antenna modes. The switching coupler is a rectangular quadrature coupler with Pin diodes connecting its center line and the ground plane. The beamwidth of the antenna when the diodes are off and on is $18^{\circ}$ and $39^{\circ}$, respectively. The proposed antenna system will be used for a real train test in the near future.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to develop a surface-guided radiosurgery system customized for a neurosurgery clinic that could be used as an auxiliary system for improving the accuracy, monitoring the movements of patients while performing hypofractionated radiosurgery, and minimizing the geometric misses. Methods: RGB-D cameras were installed in the treatment room and a monitoring system was constructed to perform a three-dimensional (3D) scan of the body surface of the patient and to express it as a point cloud. This could be used to confirm the exact position of the body of the patient and monitor their movements during radiosurgery. The image from the system was matched with the computed tomography (CT) image, and the positional accuracy was compared and analyzed in relation to the existing system to evaluate the accuracy of the setup. Results: The user interface was configured to register the patient and display the setup image to position the setup location by matching the 3D points on the body of the patient with the CT image. The error rate for the position difference was within 1-mm distance (min, -0.21 mm; max, 0.63 mm). Compared with the existing system, the differences were found to be as follows: x=0.08 mm, y=0.13 mm, and z=0.26 mm. Conclusions: We developed a surface-guided repositioning and monitoring system that can be customized and applied in a radiation surgery environment with an existing linear accelerator. It was confirmed that this system could be easily applied for accurate patient repositioning and inter-treatment motion monitoring.

  • The geo-referencing of satellite imagery is a key task in remote sensing. GCPs are points the position of which is known both in the image and in the supporting maps. Mapping function makes the determination of map coordinates of all image pixels possible. Generally manual operations are done to identify image points corresponding to the points on a digital topographic map. In order to accurately measure ground coordinates of GCPs, differential global positioning system (DGPS) surveying are used. To acquire the sufficient number of well distributed GCPs is one of the most time-consuming and cost-consuming tasks. This paper describes the procedure of automatically extracting GCOs using GCP database. GCP image chips and image matching technique are used for automatic extraction of GCPs. We developed image processing tool for making image chip GCPs and Web Server for management of GCPs.

  • There are many prior studies for more natural Human-Computer Interaction. Until now, the efforts is continued in order to recognize motions in various directions. In this paper, we suggest a user-specific recognition by hit detection method using Kinect camera and human proportion. This algorithm extracts the user-specific valid recognition rage after recognizing the user's body initially. And it corrects the difference in horizontal position between the user and Kinect, so that we can estimate a action of user by matching cursor to target using only one frame. Ensure that efficient hand recognition in the game to take advantage of this method of suggestion.

  • A covariance matrix is a tool that expresses odometry uncertainty of the wheeled mobile robot. The covariance matrix is a key factor in various localization algorithms such as Kalman filter, topological matching and so on. However it is not easy to acquire an accurate covariance matrix because we do not know the real states of the robot. Up to the authors knowledge, there seems to be no established result on the covariance matrix estimation for the odometry. In this paper, we propose a new method which can estimate the covariance matrix from empirical data. It is based on the PC-method and shows a good estimation ability. The experimental results validate the performance of the proposed method.

  • The GTD-MM hybrid technique, which is used for analyzing elctromagnetic scattering problems of infinite scatterer or scatterers having no analytic solutions, requires knowledges about the diffracted current by the scatterers. And the technique determines the extent of moment method analysis area and the position of GTD matching points empirically. But these parameters give considerable effects to the accuracy of the solution. So we examine the problems and try to seek some practical guidance.

  • In this paper, we propose the cross-section processing method which is simple in describing the SHGC of objects in a range image and which can describe the SHGC of occluded objects for the recognition of 3D objects. This method produces the cross-sections of an object along the assumed axis of the SHGC and describes the SHGC of the object by processing the produced cross-sections of the object using $\psi$ -S curves with invariant properties in position and size. Our method is simple in a process and can descirbe the SHGC of partially occluded objects because it uses range images with 3-D informations of objects without matching contours of objects with a model base. Thus it is a useful description method of a range image for the recognition of 3D objects shaped in SHGC form and we proved the usefulness of it in experiments.
