The speed and position information of the rotor are required in the speed control of SRM(Switched Reluctance Motors). This information is generally provided by shaft encoder or resolver. It is weak in the dusty, high temperature, and EMI environment. Consequntly, much attention has been given to SRM control for eliminationating the position and speed sensors. In this paper, a new estimation algorithm for the rotor position and speed for SRM drives is described. The algorithm is implemented by the sliding mode observer. The stability and robustness of the sliding observer for the parameter variations of the SRM are proved by variable structure control theory. Speed control of the SRM is accomplished by the estimated speed and position. Experiment results verify that the mode observer is able to estimate the speed and position well.
The goal of this paper is to describe an advanced method of a crack detection: a new way to localize position and to estimate depth of a crack on rotating shaft. As a first step, the shaft is physically modelled with a finite element method and the dynamic mathematical model is derived using the Hamilton principle; thus, the system is represented by various subsystems. The equations of motion of the shaft with a crack are established by adapting the local stiffness change through breathing and gaping from the crack to an undamaged shaft. This is the reference system for the given system. Based on a model for transient behavior induced from vibration measured at the bearings, a nonlinear state observer is designed to detect cracks on the shaft. This is the elementary NL-observer (Beo). Using the observer, an Estimator (Observer Bank) is established and arranged at the certain position on the shaft. When a crack position is localized, the procedure for estimating of the depth is engaged.

This paper presents a compensative microstepping based position control with passive nonlinear adaptive observer for permanent magnet stepper motor. Due to the resistance uncertainties, a position error exists in the steady-state, and a ripple of position error appears during operation. The compensative microstepping is proposed to remedy this problem. The nonlinear controller guarantees the desired currents. The passive nonlinear adaptive observer is designed to estimate the phase resistances and the velocity. The closed-loop stability is proven using input to state stability. Simulation results show that the position error in the steady-state is removed by the proposed method if the persistent excitation conditions are satisfied. Furthermore, the position ripple is reduced, and the Lissajou curve of the phase currents is a circle.

The speed control of SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) needs the accurate position and speed data of rotor. This information is generally provided by a shaft encoder or resolver. In some cases, the environment is which the motor operates may cause difficulties in maintaining the satisfactory position detection performance. Therefore, the elimination of the position and speed sensor has gained wide attention. In this paper, a new algorithm for estimation of rotor position and speed is described for the SRM drives. This method uses is nonlinear adaptive observer using the MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System). The observer is proved by Lyapunov Stability Theory. This algorithm was implemented with a TMS320C31 DSP. Experiment results prove that the observer is able to estimate the speed and position with a little errors.
A sensorless control method was recently investigated in the robot and automation industry. This method can solve problems related to the rise of manufacturing costs and system volume. In a vector control method, the rotor position estimated in the sensorless control method is generally used. This study is based on a conventional full-order flux observer. The proposed full-order flux observer estimates both currents and fluxes. Estimated d- and q-axis currents and fluxes are used to estimate the rotor position. In selecting the gains, the proposed full-order flux observer substitutes gain k for the speed information in the denominator of the gain for fast convergence. Therefore, accurate speed control in a low-speed region can be obtained because gains do not influence the estimation of the rotor position. The stability of the proposed full-order flux observer is confirmed through a root-locus method, and the validity of the proposed observer is experimentally verified using a surface permanent-magnet synchronous motor.

A new output feedback controller design approach for flexible-joint (FJ) robots via the observer dynamic surface design technique is presented. The proposed approach only requires the feedback of position states. We first design an observer to estimate the link and actuator velocity information. Then, the link position tracking controller using the observer dynamic surface design procedure is developed. Therefore, the proposed controller can be simpler than the observer backstepping controller. From the Lyapunov stability analysis, it is shown that all signals in a closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, the simulation results of a three-link FJ robot are presented to validate the good position tracking performance of the proposed control system.
This paper proposes a sensorless vector control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) using a reduced order observer. This method introduce the auxiliary control inputs that can eliminate the nonlinear term in the electrical equations and realize the linearization of the motor model. The rotor speed estimate with the observer that needs only the q-axis current. The rotor position calculate using the estimated rotor speed. The speed and position control implement with the estimated value. The validity of the proposed scheme is confirmed by various response characteristics.
We propose a disturbance observer(DOB) based feedback linearization control to improve position tracking performance in the presence of disturbance. The proposed method consists of a disturbance observer and a feedback linearization controller. The disturbance observer is designed to estimate the load force disturbance in electro-hydraulic systems. An auxiliary state variable is proposed in order to avoid amplification of the measurement noises in the disturbance observer. Using the estimated disturbance enables the Electro-hydraulic servo systems(EHS) dynamics to be changed into feedback linearization from. In order to compensate for the disturbance and to track the desired position, the feedback linearization based controller is proposed. The proposed method has a simple structure which can easily be implemented in practice. As a result, the proposed method improves the position tracking performance in the presence of disturbance. Its performance is validated via simulations.
This paper propose a position-speed controller with an estimator which can estimate states and disturbance. The overall control system consists of two parts: the position-speed controller and an estimator. The Kalman filter applied as state-feedback controller is an optimal state estimator applied to a dynamic system that involves random perturbations and gives a linear, unbiased and minimum error variance recursive algorithm to optimally estimate the unknown state. Therefore, we consider the error problem about the servo system modeling and the measurement noise as a stochastic system and implement a optimal state observer, and enhance the estimate performance of position and speed using that. Using two-degree-of freedom(TDOF) conception, we design the command input response and the closed loop characteristics independently. The servo system is to improve the closed loop characteristics without affecting the command imput response. The characteristics of the closed loop system is improved by suppressing disturbance torque effectively with the disturbance observer using a inverse-transfer matrix. Therefore, the performance of overall position-speed controller is enhanced. Finally, the performance of the proposed controller is exemplified by some simulations and by applying the real servo system.
This paper proposes a robust optimal nonlinear control with an observer to reject the offset errors of position tracking for surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors. We provide the control method to reject offset errors and load torque for designing field oriented control (FOC) based the alternating current (AC) frame. The proposed method consists of a torque generator, a commutation scheme, an electrical controller, and a load torque observer. The mechanical controller is designed to compensate for load torque and the offset error and generate the desired torque. The commutation scheme is proposed to create the desired currents for the desired torque. The electrical controller is developed to guarantee the desired currents. The observer is designed to estimate both the velocity and the load torque. In order to obtain the robustness to parameter uncertainties and a gain tuning guide, the linear quadratic regulator method is applied to the proposed method. The closed-loop stability is proven. A detailed process for the FOC design and an analysis of the control methods based on the AC frame are presented. The performance of the proposed method was validated via experiments. The proposed method obtains the FOC based on the AC frame. Furthermore, the position tracking performance of the proposed method is superior to that of the conventional method.
