  • Although there are some challenges to a view of science teaming as conceptual change, the view still occupies an important position in science teaming and teaching. Conceptual change theory implies that students' conceptions need to be exchanged for the new science conceptions. This was at the heart of conceptual change theory of Posner et al. (1982). According to this theory, cognitive conflict is known as an important factor in conceptual change even though there is still a controversial on effects on science teaming. This study is intended to interpret the cognitive conflict from cybernetics' perspective and explain difficulties of conceptual change which students have in teaming science and the conditions of conceptual change.

발플라스트 레진 주입 시 발생되는 의치상의 두께변화에 관한 연구 (Research for Thickness Change of Denture Base in Flask when Injecting Valplast Flexible Partial Denture Resin)

  • This is a research for thickness change of denture base according to the shape of sprue & investment position of denture base in flask when injecting polyamid base resin for flexible partial denture as a part of study for Valplast among the flexible partial denture with a nylon base. It has been introduced several kinds of flexible partial denture product with a nylon base, but Valplast is the most widely used product among them. Valplast has been the most generally used material today since developed in 1950s in the United States as a material for flexible partial denture. Valplast is much more aesthetic than general metal-acrylic partial denture due to its translucent pink color and biocompatibility in terms of material characteristic. It keeps its flexibility for a long time after production, imposes a less burden on the teeth used as abutment, and it can be easily insert and remove due to its particular suppleness. Moreover, it is felt like real teeth more than metal-acrylic partial denture when being put in and takes alveolar bone under good protection since it receives occlusal force equally under the denture base. The most outstanding feature of Valplast is flexibility. The extent of its flexibility is determined by width & thickness of denture base. Considering general working procedure of Valplast, it can be seen that the thickness of denture base formed out of wax is increasing by the pressure while injecting resin. This research is to decide and test on the thickness increasing of Valplast by injecting pressure and the hypothesis upon that and is to prepare the basis estimating the increasing extent of thickness of denture base on the basis of the test result. In this test, it is expected occlusal malposition & thickness increasing of denture base by injecting pressure according to 4 kinds of test data which are to select 3 types of sprue method settling the forefront position at which the test material of fixed standard can be invested and to position the test material at the rearmost part keeping the minimum distance to set sprue. For 4 kinds of injecting test by investment position & sprue type, 20 test materials, 5 for each test were produced and a pressure of 1,180Kg was given with automatic injector of air cylinder type. The results are as follows: 1. For the amount of thickness increasing of denture base by investment position, the thickness of front investment is less increasing than the one of rear investment. 2. For the amount of thickness increasing of denture base by sprue type, the thickness of straight decompression sprue type which can absorb the injecting pressure after injecting polyamide base resin is less increasing than the other sprue types.

사각덕트 내 이단 오리피스를 지나는 유동의 압력강하에 대한 수치해석 (A Numerical analysis on the pressure drop of the flow field past a two-staged orifice in a rectangular duct)

  • A numerical study has been performed on the flow past a two-staged orifice in a rectangular duct. The flow field including the recirculation region behind the orifice was investigated and the pressure drop was calculated. Water was used as a working fluid and the flow was treated as the turbulent flow, of which the Raynolds number was 6000. The main parameters for the pressure drop and the recirculation region were the orifice's inclined angle against the duct, the interval between two orifices, the shape of the orifice's hole having the same area, and the change of the hole position at the same interval. The variation of the flow field was investigated with each parameter. Consequently, it was found that the most dominant parameter influencing the drop of the pressure was the change of the hole position at the same interval between orifices. Especially when the interval between orifices was narrow and the relative position the holes was changed, its effect to the flow field was shown most drastically as a result of this study. The SIMPLER algorithm with FLUENT code was employed to analyze the flow field.

  • Sensitivity and calibration considerations are most important in the design and implementation of real control systems. Ideally parameter changes due to various causes should not appreciably affect the system's performances. But all the values of physical components of the plants and controllers as well as the relevant environmental conditions change in time, thus the output performance can be deteriorated during the operating span of the system. Naturally the duty of calibration or the prevention of performance deterioration due to excessive component sensitivity should be provided to the control system. In this paper, we propose a digital controller which has the capability of calibration and gain adjustment as well as the execution of control law. Specifically the problems of gain adjustment and offset calibration in the light source and CdS sensor module for position measurement in a flexible link system are considerably resolved. The parameters of measurement module are prone to change due to environmental brightness conditions resulting in poor steady state performance of the overall control system. Thus a proper method is necessary to provide correction to the changed values of gain and offset in the position measurement module. The proposed controller, whenever necessary, measures the open-loop characteristics, andthen calculates the offset and sensor gain correction values based on the prepared standard measurements. It is applied to the control of a flexible link system with the gain and offset calibration porblems in the light sensor module for position to show the applicability.

Effects of Mental Practice on Function and Muscle Activation of Upper Extremity in Stroke Patients

  • PURPOSE: The objective of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of mental practice on function and muscle activation of upper extremity (UE) in stroke patients. METHODS: The mental practice was conducted on 12 subjects for 10 minutes and the related existing work treatment for 20 minutes. The evaluation for the function of UE proceeded with Fugl-Meyer assessment of motor function (FMA) and muscle activity analysis instrument. Furthermore we analyzed patients' reaching activity by two stages, reaching phase and returning to original position phase. RESULTS: According to the research results, the subjects' upper limb function improved in all of the measured items and the total scores after the mental practice (p<.05). In muscle activity, CCR value was used to efficiently analyze the patients' reaching activity in the two stages of reaching stage and returning to the original position phase. While the elbow movement only had a bit of positive change (1.1%) in the reaching stage, both the shoulder (-12.3%) and elbow (-18.2%) movements had a positive change in the returning to original position phase. CONCLUSION: This research confirmed that the mental practice is effective for the enhancement of UE function for stroke patients. The result of this research can contribute to the progress of mental practice in clinical environment.

연료 및 공기 노즐 위치와 공기 유량 변화에 따른 MILD 연소 특성에 관한 해석적 연구 (A Numerical Study of the Combustion Characteristics in a MILD Combustor with the Change of the Fuel and Air Nozzle Position and Air Mass Flow Rate)

  • 연소과정 중에 발생하는 질소산화물을 저감하는 기술인 MILD 연소에 대하여 연료노즐과 공기노즐의 위치와 공기유량을 변화하면서 나타나는 연소특성을 수치해석을 통하여 연구하였다. 본 연구의 MILD 연소로는 연료노즐과 공기 노즐 사이에 연소배기가스의 배출구가 있는 연소로를 이용하였다. 공기노즐은 8개, 연료노즐은 4개를 사용하였다. 연료노즐이 연소로 중앙 부근에 위치한 연소로의 경우에 공기유량이 적을 때는 연소반응대가 연료노즐에서부터 연소로 벽면으로 치우치게 되지만 공기유량이 커지면 연소반응대가 연료노즐 측에서 시작하여 연료노즐 상부로 형성된다. 공기노즐이 연소로 중앙부분에 위치한 경우에 공기유량이 적을 때는 연소반응대가 공기노즐 부근에서 시작하여 연소로 벽면으로 치우치지만 공기유량이 증가하면 연소반응대가 연료노즐 측으로 옮겨가게 된다. 두 가지 경우 모두 공기유량이 증가하면 연소반응대에서 최대온도가 증가하고 따라서 배기가스에서의 NOx 농도가 증가한다. 두 가지 노즐 위치에서의 NOx 생성을 비교해 보면 공기노즐이 연소로 중앙에 위치한 경우가 연료노즐이 연소로 중앙에 위치한 경우보다 NOx 농도가 현저히 적음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구의 결과로부터 NOx 저감과 연료의 미연가스 배출을 감안할 때 공기노즐이 연소로 중앙에 위치하고 이론공기량에 해당하는 공기량을 분출할 때 NOx 생성에 가장 효과적임을 알 수 있었다.

  • Conventional DLLs estimate the delay times of satellite signals individually and feed back these measurements to the VCO independently. But VDLL estimates delay times and user position directly and then estimate the feedback term for VCO using the estimated position changes. In this process, input measurements are treated as vectors and these vectors are used for navigation. First advantage of VDLL is that noise is reduced in all of the tracking channels making them less likely to enter the nonlinear region and fall below threshold. Second is that VDLL can operate successfully when the conventional independent parallel DLL approach fails completely. It means that VDLL receiver can get enough total signal power to track successfully to obtain accurate position estimates under the same conditions where the signal strength from each individual satellite is so low or week that none of the individual scalar DLL can remain in lock when operating independently. To operate VDLL successfully, it needs to know the initial user dynamics and position and prevents total system from the divergence. The suggested integration method is to use the inertial navigation system to provide initial dynamics for VDLL and to maintain total system stable. We designed the GPS/INS integrated navigation system. This new type of integrated system contained the vector pseudorange format generation block, VDLL signal processing block, position estimation block and the conversion block from position change to delay time feedback term aided by INS.

높은 굽 신발이 감각계의 변화와 균형에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the High-Heeled Shoes on the Sensory System and Balance in Women)

  • The purpose of this study were to compare light touch, two-point discrimination, position sense, and static balance ability and to examine the relationship of static balance ability and different senses in those who are wearing various heights of high-heeled shoes. Each 29 women was classified two different heights (below 3 cm, above 7 cm) by experience in wearing shoes. A t-test was used to determine the differences between low- and high-heeled shoe in light touch, two-point discrimination, position sense, and static balance ability. Pearson correlation was used to examine the relationship of static balance ability to these sensation. The results were as follows: 1) No significant differences in average light touch, position sense between two groups were found(p>0.05). But significant differences in average two-point discrimination, static balance ability were found(p<0.05). 2) Static balance ability was not significantly correlated with light touch, position sense, two-point discrimination(p>0.05). The results suggest that long time experience in wearing high-heeled shoe may be caused local sensory change and decreased static balance ability. Even though, static balance ability was not significantly affected but correlated with two-point discrimination, position sense, and light touch in order.

온도 보상을 이용한 자기변형 위치 센서의 정확도 향상 방법 (A Novel Method for Improving the Positioning Accuracy of a Magnetostrictive Position Sensor Using Temperature Compensation)

  • An ultrasonic based magnetostrictive position sensor (MPS) provides an indication of real target position. It determines the real target position by multiplying the propagation speed of ultrasonic wave and the time-of-flight between the receiving signals; one is the initial signal by an excitation current and the other is the reflection signal by the ultrasonic wave. The propagation speed of the ultrasonic wave depends on the temperature of the waveguide. Hence, the change of the propagation speed in various environments is a critical factor in terms of the positioning accuracy in the MPS. This means that the influence of the changes in the waveguide temperature needs to be compensated. In this paper, we presents a novel way to improve the positioning accuracy of MPSs using temperature compensation for waveguide. The proposed method used the inherent measurement blind area for the structure of the MPS, which can simultaneously measure the position of the moving target and the temperature of the waveguide without any additional devices. The average positional error was approximately -23.9 mm and -1.9 mm before and after compensation, respectively. It was confirmed that the positioning accuracy was improved by approximately 93%.

  • Welding systems cannot adapt to changes in the joint geometry which may occur due to a variety of reason. Automatic seam tracking technigue is essential to adjust the welding torch position in real time as it moves along the seam. Automatic tracking system must keep the welding speed constant unrelation to the change of the welding path. Therefore, the information from the laser displacement sensor must be converted into the input to operate the X-Y table and to rotate the desired torch position by proposed algorithm. In this research, laser displacement sensor is used as a seam finder in the automatic tracking system. X-Y moving table manipulated by ac servo motor controls the position and velocity of the torch-and-sensor part. DC motor controls the position and velocity of the torch. X-Y table controls the position of sensor and relative position of torch is controlled by dc motor which is mounted at sensor-and-torch part. Sensor is always ahead of torch to preview the weld line. From the experimental results, we could see the possiblity that the laser displacement sensor can be used as a seam finder in welding process and that the seam tracking system controlled by proposed algorithm is well done.
