  • This study analyzed the determinants of the financial Soundness of savings banks. In particular, empirical analysis was carried out on how the loan deposit ratio correlates with financial soundness after restructuring. As the restructuring of savings banks was finalized in 2014, asset management changed and it is time to analyze the financial characteristics of savings banks. In summary, the relationship between the savings bank lending rate and the NPL ratio is estimated to have a negative value at the 1% significance level. In other words, the higher the mortgage rate, the lower the substandard and below ratio. It can be said that it is not easy for a savings bank to build an aggressive loan portfolio. In other words, the more difficult it is to finance loans through savings deposits, the more likely the risk aversion tends to be. The higher the corporate loan ratio, average interest expense, and economic growth rate, the higher the risk index. The larger the asset size and the higher the loan growth rate, the lower the risk index. Increasing the mortgage rate may reduce risk-seeking behavior, but it does not mean that it is unconditionally positive for savings banks. Therefore, the loan deposit rate regulation should reduce the incentives for excessive asset expansion and manage preemptive soundness through lending portfolio management.

  • Since the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) would be started in 2012, the use of renewable energy should be 11% of total energy use including bio-fuel in 2030. The economic efficiency for renewable energy in B power plant was considered with the bio-diesel, wind power and solar power. The Net Present Value (NPV) and Benefit/Cost Ratio(BC) were used for the economic efficiency with the cost and benefit analysis. In case of bio-diesel, the cost resulted from the fuel conversion and the benefit would be created with trade and environmental improvement. With regard to wind power and solar power, the construction cost would be required and benefit factors would be same as the bio-diesel. The wind power was the best of economic efficiency of renewable energy as the results of NPV and BC ratio. Whereas, the market of wind power was very popular and the techniques of wind power has been developing rapidly.

  • The study investigates the impact of accrual anomaly on stock return ratio of listed firms in Vietnam. Data were collected from listed firms for the period from 2008 to 2018. To learn about the causes of accrual anomaly in returns and future rate of returns on the Vietnamese stock market, this research is based on accrual analysis of Richardson, Sloan, Soliman, and Tuna (2006) on growth and effective components. We employ GLS regression model for examining the impact of accrual anomaly on stock return ratio and T-test for checking the difference between the lowest and the highest portfolio. The results show that accounting distortion is the main factor impacting the stock return, not growth determinant. Both two determinants of accounting distortion and growth contribute the explanation of the impact of accrual anomaly on profit and future stock return ratio. Experimental evidence confirms an abnormal existence of accrual in the Vietnam stock market. Aggregate accrual is negatively correlated with future operating profit and future stock return. However, after considering the factors contributing to the impact of future profitability and return on stock returns, the study results show that accounting distortion can account for low sustainability of income that is not growth.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine the financial statements and analyze the financial soundness of contract foodservice management companies(CFMC) using the financial ratio. The statistical data analysis was completed using Microsoft Excel(ver.2007) for the trend line equation and using SPSS Win(ver.18.0) for wilcoxon-rank sum test. Increased asset, debt, capital and sales occurred in most of the CFMCs, but the financial trend of firm D decreased for operating profit and net profit. The financial ratio for investigating a firm's financial soundness was based on liquidity, stability, profitability, activity, and growth through financial statements. Most of the CFMCs had maintained outstanding financial soundness from 1999 to 2011. The financial statements during the decade were verified and fluctuated. The directly affected CFMCs by a school foodservice' sanitation accident had maintained better financial statements than those of other CFMCs. Therefore, there was opportunity for directly affecting CFMCs involved in school foodservice' sanitation accident to diversify the business portfolio of the firms.

  • The general role of commercial banks is to provide financial services to the general public and business, ensuring economic and social stability and sustainable growth of the economy. Commercial banks play an important role in mobilizing and channelizing funds for investment activities. This study analyzes the impact of the key financial variables on the net profit of the selected commercial banks in Oman. The study employs times series panel data - cross-sectional analysis of the key financials of five leading commercial banks for a period of 13 years from 2007 to 2019. The results reveal that the correlation matrix of the selected variables has a positive relationship with net profit, assets, deposits, loans, and interest income. However, the findings also shows a negative relationship between net profit and net loans to total deposits ratio. The study found net loans is the main independent variable that influences the profitability of the banks since the key source of revenue comes from the lending operations. The assets, total capital adequacy ratio have a mixed effect on the profitability of commercial banks. The total deposits and capital adequacy ratio have a negative effect on profitability mainly because excessive liquidity will increase the cost of capital and reduce the return on investment. Focusing on lending operations with a sound credit portfolio will improve profitability.

  • Each of fuel consumption per hour was measured at the 320 MW and 380 MW generator output while changing mixing ratio of bio fuel oil to 50%, 80% and 100%. Fuel consumption per hour was increased from 11.0% to 20.4% as mixing ratio of bio fuel oil was changed from 50% to 100% at the 320 MW generator output comparing with fuel consumption per hour in case of bunker-C oil single firing. Fuel consumption per hour was also increased from 12.0% to 21.1% as mixing ratio of bio fuel oil was changed from 50% to 100% at the generator output 380 MW. Furthermore, it was confirmed that plant efficiency was decreased as mixing ratio of bio fuel oil was increased from 50% to 100% as a result that plant efficiency was calculated using the measured fuel consumption per hour, the generator output and the gross heating value.

  • This paper studied the performance of momentum strategy and contrarian strategy based or past stock return ratio of Korean stock market. The comparative study shows that the volatility of stock markets that can be found the performance of momentum strategy is smaller than that of emerging stock market. Accordingly, This paper examines that the performances of momentum strategy and contrarian strategy are affected by the larger volatility in Korean stock market. Further analysis using the 6 years sub-portfolios reveals that the momentum strategy is significant only during 1980 to 1986 time period when it had the least market volatility. Additionally, we investigate whether firm-level volatility as well as market volatility influence on the performance of contrarian strategy, and figure out that the momentum strategy is significant for the portfolio composed of firms with smaller volatility for previous period, while not significant for the portfolio composed of firms with larger volatility.

  • The Ministry of Education have had us practice the performance test as a substitute proposal, however, all the more for the idealistic purport, our education front does not have such a sufficient condition as to practice the performance test for many classes and miscellaneous duties and over-populated class, and that practice has been enforced so abruptly without any drastic preparation and has caused much confusion from the beginning of that enforcement. Thus, these problematic concerns are remained as the tasks of the teachers to be solved by themselves in the front of education, and herein I came to do this research. The followings are the conclusions that I got as the results of the research (1) Performance test style should be applied in consideration of the students' achievement level and the gap of the teachers' recognition; descriptive test, portfolio assignment and formative test styles were proper for the students lacking basic study ability. (2) Descriptive test should have its beginning with the question items to which students can write the problem solving procedure logically rather than those to evaluate the creation ability and thinking ability: and putting down specifically the assessment standard could prevent students' confusion and scheme the impartiality of the assessment. (3) Portfolio assignment evaluation should be given with as interesting and suitable amounts as possible so that the students can do by themselves. (4) Utilizing the performance test table enabled easy management of documentary evidence. And it is needless to say that the success of the performance test should have preceding conditions like the teachers' understanding and their positive participation. Therefore, I'd like to give suggestions herein like the followings; (1) The performance test should not always be made into grades, and there is a need to develop the test gradually in the condition that the education surroundings permit by checking time, frequency, ratio and contents of the test while practicing the multiple choice writing test. (2) As long as the performance test has the aims of improving the studying and learning activities, any performance test only for the sake of making numerals with the thought that assessment is the disposal of the grades should be avoided, and the change of the lecturing styles and development of various assessing types and studying materials should be endeavored to confirm with the aims.

  • This study tests the significance of momentum and contrarian strategy which challenge the weak efficient market hypothesis (EMH). If momentum and contrarian strategy can make extra return above the market, this can be a significant critics to the weak EMH. By using Monte Carlo simulation we have found that many existing returature, which test the significance of momentum and contrarian strategy, have a significance distortion problem. We test the significance of momentum and contrarian strategy by using reality check test of White(2000) which solve the problem of data snooping bias. The results are following. When we use the KOSPI index as the benchmark portfolio, we can get the best strategy of momentum strategy in the case of mean return. But in the case of Sharp ratio which is the performance measure adjusting risk, we find that the best strategy in the momentum and contrarian strategy can not dominate the performance of benchmark portfolio. Therefore we argue that weak EMH can not be rejected because of superior performance of momentum and contrarian strategy when we consider risk.

  • The Korean government is planning to introduce the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) system to replace the currently used Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) system which is a subsidy-based mechanism to foster the renewable energy industry. The RPS system is a market-oriented system in which the power companies are obliged to use renewable energy sources to produce electricity by a certain ratio of their production level. They can either produce for themselves or simply purchase the REC (renewable energy certificate) in the market to implement. The objective of this article is to compare the RPS system with the current FIT system in terms of the implementing cost to achieve the policy goal to expand the share of renewable energy m the total power generation. The analysis is conducted using Linear Programming models. The results of this study imply several policy suggestions to successfully introduce the RPS system.
