A Design and Implementation of Facility Management System Using Portable RFID (이동형 RFID를 이용한 시설물 관리 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • Currently, most procedures in domestic facility management systems are performed by hand. However, these manually operated facility management systems involve critical limitations, such as a waste of manpower to store collected data into a database, intentional or accidental loss of data consistency (mainly due to a lack of the ability to recognize and deal with frequent changes of facility status in realtime), and so on. To overcome the limitations of such manually operated facility management systems, the following capabilities must be supported. First, the changes in facility status must be recognized in realtime. Second, the data collection process must be secure and reliable to prevent fabrication of collected data and preserve data integrity. Third, the data collection devices must be portable to help the manager collect data about their facilities. To address these problems, we design and implement a novel facility management system using portable RFID, which is designed to support these functionalities and thus help reduce administrative costs. Through extensive experiments, we observed that our system improved the accuracy and reliability of facility check process and helped cut administrative costs by significantly reducing failure frequency.

  • In construction sites, portable generators and electrical equipments cause frequently electrical accidents due to the poor condition of their usage. However, there are very few technical guidelines on these equipments even though they have serious accident causing potentiality. In order to reduce such accidents in practical and economical, grounding methods are studied in this paper as the countermeasure of electrical accidents. Several Korean national standards and international standards regarding three grounding types are compared each other, and some prevention means of electrical accidents are reviewed in this study. This paper presents the most effective grounding methods by assuming the WCS with the isolated power systems.

Study on Levee Visual Inspection Information System Building Using Mobile Technology

  • In this paper, we propose the mobile visual inspection information system using DGPS and portable range finder for levee safety inspection. Instead of existing visual inspection management method that is stored hand-written data, this system is designed to manage directly the visual inspection information using mobile devices in the field of levee. And through extracting accurate DGPS coordinates information about damage location of levee, this system is developed to ensure efficiency for the main task arising from the levee site such as inspection, maintenance and reinforcement. Furthermore, when damage has occurred at the point that inspector is not able to approach, this system can record the damage site data correctly, by converting data such as position, orientation and height of the damage point into the World Geodetic System coordinates. The position, orientation and height data was extracted automatically through the DGPS and portable range finder. And by applying the augmented reality method, this system was implemented for inspector to revisit the point of damage easily in order to perform the management, maintenance and reinforcement of the levee later.

Real-Time Face Tracking System for Portable Multimedia Devices (휴대용 멀티미디어 기기를 위한 실시간 얼굴 추적 시스템)

  • Human face tracking has gradually become an important issue in applications for portable multimedia devices such as digital camcorder, digital still camera and cell phone. Current embedded face tracking software implementations lack the processing abilities to track faces in real time mobile video processing. In this paper, we propose a power efficient hardware-based face tracking architecture operating in real time. The proposed system was verified by FPGA prototyping and ASIC implementation using Samsung 65nm CMOS process. The implementation result shows that tracking speed is less than 8.4 msec with 150K gates and 20 mW average power consumption. Consequently it is validated that the proposed system is adequate for portable multimedia device.

  • In order to provide an efficient way to processing with limited resources, we propose a wavelet coder that operates with little memory usage on the portable embedded system. In order to reduce redundancy in coding process caused by repetitive scanning of wavelet coefficients, the proposed coder uses a 2D significance coefficient array (SCA) which records the bit-level information of wavelet coefficients. The 2D SCA improves memory usage and processing speed required for image coding because it can perform significance check and bit coding of coefficients simultaneously.

Clinical Effectiveness of New Portable System for Measuring Spasticity of the Stroke Patients (뇌졸중 환자의 경직측정을 위한 휴대형 장치의 유용성)

  • Spasticity is a motor disorder characterized by a velocity dependent increase in muscle tone with exaggerated tendon jerks, resulting from hyper-excitability of the stretch reflex. The aim of this study is to develop a portable system for quantifying the grade of spasticity which could calculate the biomechanical as well as neurophysiologic parameters, and for determining the relationship between the Tonic Stretch Reflex Threshold (TSRT) and Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS). Eleven patients with stroke participated in the study (6 males and 5 females, the average age of $64.5\pm16.0$ years). As a results, the mean and standard deviation values of the TSRT were $129.8\pm4.2$, $123.4\pm5.2$ and $119.1\pm2.6$ in the MAS 1, MAS 1+ and MAS 2 groups, respectively. Also, there was a negative correlation between the TSRT and MAS (rho=-0.72, p<0.05). This demonstrated that the TSRT could be made clinically available for the more objective and reliable evaluation of the spasticity, instead of using the conventional clinical scales and an isokinetic dynamometer.

  • This study is to provide high-quality mobile communication service to subscribers and wireless communication users in a Mobile communication environment. It is about a method to secure the quality of a call by early processing a faulty radio station. The purpose of this study is to design and implement a direction detection system suitable for a mobile communication environment and portable as a method for early detection and resolution of interference and illegal wireless stations occurring in 5G mobile communication. The basic configuration of a portable direction detection system was designed, and a method was proposed to find and repair a faulty wireless station in a short time through manufacturing and experimentation.

Check4Urine: Smartphone-based Portable Urine-analysis System (Check4Urine: 스마트폰 기반 휴대용 소변검사 시스템)

  • Recently, a few image-processing based mobile urine testers have actively been studied since the urine-analysis result can be available to the user in real time immediately after the test is done. However, the accuracy of test result can be severely degraded due to variable illumination environments and a variety of manners to capture the image with a camera embedded in the smartphone according to different users. This paper proposes the Check4Urine system, a novel smartphone-based portable urine-analysis tester and provides three techniques to improve such a performance degradation problem robust to various test environments and disturbances, which are the compensation algorithm to correct the varying illumination effect, an urine strip detection algorithm robust to edge loss of the object image, and the color decision algorithm based on the pre-processed reference table. Experimental results show that the proposed Check4Urine system increases the accuracy of urine-analysis by 20-50% at various test conditions, compared with the existing image-processing based mobile urine tester.

  • Color correction methods of chromaticity coordinates using Color Matching Function (CMF) were studied to develop a device-independent portable-type urine analyzer. The reflection spectra were measured for the degrees of 10 test items of the urine reagent strip (urine strip) to develop a portable-type urine analyzer. A computer simulation was performed to quantitatively distinguish the color reactions of the urine system, by using the spectral power distribution of Light Emitting Diode(LED), the reflection of a urine strip, and spectral sensitivity of a photodiode. To develop a device-independent system, chromaticity coordinates were modified to reduce the color deviations in the urine strip, by using the temperature compensation of LED and the color transformation by CMF. The experimental values obtained by developed urine system exhibited the accuracy above 95% for all color samples.

Determination of Hydrogen Peroxide Concentration by Portable Near-Infrared (NIR) System (근적외분광분석법을 이용한 과산화수소의 농도 측정)

  • This experiment was carried out to determine non-destructively the hydrogen peroxide concentration of 3% antiseptic hydrogen peroxide solutions by portable near-infrared (NIR) system. Hydrogen peroxide standards were prepared ranging from 0 to 25.6 w/w% and the NIR spectra of hydrogen peroxide standard solutions were collected by using a quartz cell in 1 mm pathlength. We found the variation of absorbance band due to OH vibration of hydrogen peroxide depending on the concentration around 1400 nm in the second derivatives spectra. Partial least square regression (PLSR) and multilinear regression (MLR) were explored to develop a calibration model over the spectral range 1100-1720 nm. The model using PLSR was better than that using MLR. The calibration showed good results with a standard error of prediction (SEP) of 0.16%. In order to validate the developed calibration model, routine analyses were performed using commercial antiseptic hydrogen peroxide solutions. The hydrogen peroxide values from the NIR calibration model were compared with the values from a redox titration method. The NIR routine analyses results showed good correlation with those of the redox titration method. This study showed that the rapid and non-destructive determination of hydrogen peroxide in the antiseptic solution was successfully performed by portable NIR system without very harmful solvents.
