  • Concerns on the floating architecture development has been increased on the viewpoint of ocean space due to the increases of GDP and environmental issues such as sea level rise. However, basic research on the water heat exchanger for utilizing seawater thermal energy is insufficient. So, The purpose of this research is to develop a sea water heat exchanger model and to evaluate the performance throughout the experiment for seawater heat utilization.

  • The paper describes implementation of three-dimensional visualization system that is to provide comprehensive meaning of the statistical prediction results on the marine casualties. Graphical User Interface (GUI) and Web based Virtual Reality (VR) technology are mainly introduced in the system development. To provide daily forecasting, time based casualty prediction model and risk level index are developed in this work. As operating test results of the system, complicated statistical meaning can be shown in the three-dimensional virtual space using simple color. In addition, daily risk levels can be shown on the bar-graph.

  • Recently, according to the increase of personal income and enough time to spare. people demand the expansion of waterfront space in the city and the development of waterfront's possibility. In this study, which takes a place of the Jeol-young seaside park in young-do investigated for the user's pattern of seaside park located in coastal area And analyzed into user's attributes and a feeling of satisfaction The results of this study were as follows : 1) The Jeol-young seaside park is facilitated for taking a walk. It also tends to be preferred for the ocean view, jogging, relaxation, and so on 2) The Jeol-young seaside park has to be ensured with its safety and convenience of esplanade. In order to provide the user's high satisfaction, more facilities of expansion and parking area are demanded to be developed.

  • Marina industry is growing as a higher value-added business. This study aims to develop a tool that measures marina service quality from marina users' perspective. As the result of empirical analysis, five of marina service quality aspects including physical facilities, support services, activity programs, employees' attitude, and safety were drawn. In addition, 20 measurement items whose reliability and validity were verified were suggested. The scale developed by this study is not only an important tool to measure marina service quality but also contributes to marina service quality control, and seem, to provide useful information for establishing marketing strategies.

  • The improvement in the terminal productivity plays a key role for container terminals to be more competitive. The productivity of yard tractors(YT) is one of the most important factor accelerating the terminal productivity. Thus, YT pooling system is newly introduced in container terminals for increasing the YT productivity. Recently, the terminals in Korea tend to adopt YT pooling system. This paper proposes the important decision factors for YT pooling work space and several types of formulations according to states of container terminals.

  • A Controller Area Network (CAN) is a serial communication protocol that is highly reliable and efficient in many aspects, such as wiring cost and space, system flexibility, and network maintenance. Therefore, it is chosen for the communication protocol between a single chip controller based on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and peripheral devices. In this paper, the design and implementation of CAN IP, which is written in VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL), is presented. The implemented CAN IP is based on the CAN 2.0A specification. The CAN IP consists of three processes: clock generator, bit timing, and bit streaming. The clock generator process generates a time quantum clock. The bit timing process does synchronization, receives bits from the Rx port, and transmits bits to the Tx port. The bit streaming process generates a bit stream, which is made from a message received from a micro controller subsystem, receives a bit stream from the bit timing process, and handles errors depending on the state of the CAN node and CAN message fields. The implemented CAN IP is synthesized and downloaded into SmartFusion FPGA. Simulations using ModelSim and chip test results show that the implemented CAN IP conforms to the CAN 2.0A specification.

  • The transportation of oil has increased due to the growth of marine industries and oil refineries. Oil residues and waste discharged to the ocean has increased due to accidental and/or intentional discharges. The International Marine Organization(IMO) has made compulsory that every oil tanker of 150 gross tonnage and above and every ship of 400 gross tonnages other than tankers and above should be provided with an oil record book. The entries in the oil record book should be made in accordance with the IMO guidelines. Specifically, engine room generated oil residues should be recorded in the oil record book from January 1, 2011. Also, the developed IMO guideline should be added for the prevention of dispute with the Port State Control Officers and(or) Tanker Vetting Inspectors. This oil record book will be in operation and of valued assistance to the marine officers, according to the IMO policy for the prevention of the waste oil and the oil mixtures from the machinery space.   • Due to the international economic downturn and the increasing competition, container terminals have been trying to achieve cost effectiveness and high service levels. Shipping companies want to get better services from container terminals but container terminals only have limited space and equipment. Frequently, too many external trucks come to the terminal at the same time, and create bottle necks at the terminals. Ouside the container terminals traffic jams occur as well. As a result, stakeholders need a vehicle booking system. By VBS, container terminals can plan efficiently in advance to avoid work delay and the truck drivers can finish their jobs quickly. This paper aims to search efficient models for the container terminals by using VBS.

  • Crew on board perform their respective duties in a limited space. Personal factors and job stress affect job satisfaction of seafarers. In this study, it was conducted for a basic survey on relationship stress and satisfaction among the crew members' job stress factors. Job stress of crew who are responsible for the navigation was higher than that of managerial staff, and job satisfaction of navigating crew was also lower than managerial crew. In order to compensate for these results, it is necessary to change the recognition of the managerial personnel. It is necessary to develop and operate education programs to prevent these factors beforehand.

  • It has been more recent trends in container trade to make bogger ship from shipowners that many more parties concerned are getting involved. Well, it is natural to swift these situations if we have looked into container trade market in present time, which a lot of trade volumes has increased in world economy. Thus, supply side of shipping service needs to employ more capacity in the shipping market, then newbuilding may be compulsory options, that is deployment of larger ships. To cope with market situations as able shipowner, some alternatives can be also adopted, such as newbuilding, chartering and securing the space by strategic alliance. But whatever he does, shipowner has to keep in mind to prepare for the future. This is much more important factor considered to make investment decision in case of newbuilding and then he can make more efficient decision as well. However, there has been a little problems arisen due to larger ship employed on the trade route, which is linked with seaport, shipping companies and freight rates as well. Although shipowner decides to build new larger vessel as one of corporate strategic decision, there are many questions to be considered in advance. Therefore, in order to take more efficient decision, shipowner has to take into an account various situations surrounded, and then it can lead truly thoughtful decision making process.
