Waterfront redevelopment is an element in the process of inner-city regeneration now widespread in many ports of the world. Academic interest in the processes involved has yielded a literature biased towards specific locations rather than towards the analysis of processes and issues. The redevelopment of urban waterfronts does not, of course, occur exclusively in port cities but is found as a continuous process in most places where settlement and water are juxtaposed, whether or not commercial port activity is or was present. Port cities, however, as a result of the concentration and juxtaposition of urban and maritime influences, generally present the major issues involved in waterfront redevelopment most clearly. In this context, the general aim is to explore Korean dimensions of waterfront redevelopment in a range of port cities in a context of inner-urban renewal; and a specific objective is to examine the views of decision-makers in Korean port cities on the processes involved by a questionnaire method. The focus is on comparative strategies, and in particular upon the factors affecting the balance between social goals and commercial interests. To test the response of four categories of decision-makers in Korean port cities on a number of issues perceived as underpinning the processes involved in waterfront redevelopment, four catergories of respondents-port authority representatives(PO), urban planners(UP), port specialists(PS) and city-government official(GO)-were asked to fill in a questionnaire form. In three out of ten cases, the overall result broadly confirmed the a priori expectation; in six cases the confirmation was partial; and in one other the view of respondent was generally contrary to those anticipated. In many, but by no means all, cases there was substantial agreement between the four categories of respondents, but the range of scores was generally much wider than expected.

As vessels become larger and competition between ports intensifies, there has been an increase in the number of cases where vessels that exceed the available berths are berthed at the pier. Therefore, there has been an increase in the number of cases in which the bow or stern of a ship is projected and moored. The risk of overhanging berthing is that mooring safety can be compromised because it is not possible to connect the bow and stern mooring line to the ship properly. In addition, collision accidents may occur between moving vessels if the view of a vessel moving in the port is obstructed. Therefore, in this study, the simulation of mooring safety was performed according to the overhanging range in Piers No. 6 and 7 in Ulsan's main port to propose the overhanging limit and operational standards according to each ship. As a result of the assessment, 30,000 DWT bulkers are able to overhang up to 0.75B, and 50,000 DWT bulkers can overhang up to 0.50B. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data for setting the allowable overhang limit, as well as clear usage criteria for safe unloading operations.
Ports play a key role in international trade, as integral hubs where passengers and cargoes are loaded, discharged, and transshipped. However, the function of ports is becoming more diversified, expanding on roles as industrial clusters, as well as logistical centers. Such roles combined, reap numerous and significant benefits, mainly with growth of jobs and wealth creation, for the local population living in the city, and beyond. Citizens' awareness of the function and value of ports may not be positive, because of a range of negative factors such as emissions, noise, and road congestion, which can influence their perception. This study's contribution focuses on empirically evaluating the perception of Busan citizens of the local port, by applying Q methodology. The links connecting the port-city and local population, are assessed by identifying: 1) The level of awareness of the Busan citizens of the port; 2) Factors perceived as positive as well as factors perceived as negative by Busan citizens. There are four main factors, derived from the analysis: 1) Port functional knowledge; 2) Lack of social connectedness port-city; 3) Environmentally concerned and; 4) Absent port's ripple's effect. Policy recommendations suggest focusing on improving citizens' perception of the port, for each of the four main factors derived from the analysis.

The correct estimation of the ionospheric delays is very important for the precise kinematic positioning especially in case of the long baseline. In case of triple frequency system, the ionospheric delays can be estimated from the measurements, but, in case of dual frequency system, the situation is not so simple. The precision of those supplied by the external information source such as IONEX is not sufficient. The high frequency component is neglected, and the precision of the low frequency component is not sufficient for the long baseline positioning. On the other hand, the high frequency component can be estimated from the phase range measurements. If the low frequency components are estimated by using the external information source or pseudo range measurements, a more reasonable estimation of the ionospheric delays may be possible. It has already been discussed by the author that the estimation of the low frequency components by using the external information source is not sufficient but fairly effective. The estimation using the pseudo range measurements is discussed in the present paper. The accuracy is not sufficient at present because of the errors in the pseudo range measurements. It is clarified that the bias errors in the pseudo range measurements are responsible for the poor accuracy of the ionospheric delays. However, if the accuracy of the pseudo range measurements is improved in future, the method would become very promising.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate port use and the distribution of risk factors in 15 major ports in Korea, delineating the risk of each port after classifying the ports into four risk groups based on estimated risks. The placement of response vessels is then analyzed accordingly. Based on the results, danger was estimated to be especially high in ports where large-scale petrochemical facilities are located, such as Yeosu Gwangyang ports (1.85), Ulsan port (1.33) and Daesan port (1.25). The ports showing the next highest degree of danger were Pusan (0.95) and Incheon (0.83), which have significant vessel traffic, followed by Mokpo (0.71) and Jeju (0.49), which expanded their port facilities recently and saw an increase in large vessel traffic. Next is Masan (0.44), for which many fishing permits in the vicinity. When the relative ratios of each port were graded based on the Yeosu Gwangyang Ports, which showed the highest risk values, and risk groups were classified into four levels, the highest risk groups were Yeosu Gwangyang, Ulsan, Daesan and Pusan, with Incheon, Mokpo, Jeju, and Masan following. Pyeongtaek Dangjin, Pohang, Gunsan, and Donghae Mukho were in the mid-range danger group, and the low risk groups were Samcheonpo, Okgye, and Changsungpo. Among these, all response vessel placement ports specified by current law were above the mid-range risk groups. However, we can see that ports newly included in mid-range risk group, such as Mokpo, Jeju, and Donghae Mukho, were excluded from the pollution response vessel placement system. Therefore, to prepare for marine pollution accidents these three ports should be designated as additional response vessel placement ports.

Background: Recently, single-port video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) has been proposed as an alternative to the conventional three-port VATS for primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP). The aim of this study is to evaluate the early outcomes of the single-port VATS for PSP. Methods: VATS was performed for PSP in 52 patients from March 2012 to March 2013. We reviewed the medical records of these 52 patients, retrospectively. Nineteen patients underwent the conventional three-port VATS (three-port group) and 33 patients underwent the single-port VATS (single-port group). Both groups were compared according to the operation time, number of wedge resections, amount of chest tube drainage during the first 24 hours after surgery, length of chest tube drainage, length of hospital stay, postoperative pain score, and postoperative paresthesia. Results: There was no difference in patient characteristics between the two groups. There was no difference in the number of wedge resections, operation time, or amount of drainage between the two groups. The mean lengths of chest tube drainage and hospital stay were shorter in the single-port group than in the three-port group. Further, there was less postoperative pain and paresthesia in the single-port group than in the three-port group. These differences were statistically significant. The mean size of the surgical wound was 2.10 cm (range, 1.6 to 3.0 cm) in the single-port group. Conclusion: Single-port VATS for PSP had many advantages in terms of the lengths of chest tube drainage and hospital stay, postoperative pain, and paresthesia. Single-port VATS is a feasible technique for PSP as an alternative to the conventional three-port VATS in well-selected patients.

Purpose: To review the results of postoperative radiation therapy (PORT) for residual non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) following surgical resection and evaluate multiple clinicopathologic prognostic factors. Materials and Methods: A total of 58 patients, who completed scheduled PORT for positive resection margin, among 658 patients treated with PORT from January 2001 to November 2011 were retrospectively analyzed. Radiation therapy was started at 4 to 6 weeks after surgery. Chemotherapy was also administered to 35 patients, either sequentially or concurrently with PORT. Results: The median age of patients was 63 years (range, 40 to 82 years). The postoperative pathological stage I NSCLC was diagnosed in 10 (17.2%), stage II in 18 (31.0%), and stage III in 30 patients (51.7%). Squamous cell carcinoma was identified in 43, adenocarcinoma in 10, large cell in 1, others in 4 patients. Microscopic residual disease (R1) was diagnosed in 55 patients (94.8%), and the remaining three patients were diagnosed with gross residual disease (R2). The median dose of PORT was 59.4 Gy (range, 50.0 to 64.8 Gy). Chemotherapy was administered to 35 patients (60%), and the median follow-up time was 22.0 months (range, 6.0 to 84.0 months). The 3-year locoregional relapse-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival rates were 82.1% and 52.9%, respectively. The median overall survival was 23.8 months (range, 6.0 to 84.1 months), and the 3-year overall survival rate was 58.2%. Chemotherapy did not influence the failure pattern or survival outcome. Conclusion: PORT is an effective modality for improving local tumor control in incompletely resected NSCLC patients. Major failure pattern was distant metastasis despite chemotherapy.

In this letter, a new dual-port Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) antenna is introduced which has two independent signal feeding ports in a single antenna element to achieve smaller antenna volumes for the 5G mobile applications. The dual-port structure is implemented by adding a cross coupled semi-loop (CCSL) antenna as the secondary radiator to the ground short of inverted-F antenna (IFA). It is found that the port to port isolation is not deteriorated when an IFA and CCSL is combined to form a dual-port structure. The isolation property of the proposed antenna is compared with a polarization diversity based dual-port antenna proposed in the literature [9]. The operating frequency range is 3.3-4.0 GHz which is suitable for places where $4{\times}4$ MIMO systems are supposed to be deployed such as in China, EU, Korea and Japan at the band ${\times}$ (3.3 - 3.8GHz. The measured 6-dB impedance bandwidths of the proposed antennas are larger than 700 MHz with isolation between the feeding ports higher than 18 dB [1-2]. The simulation and measurement results show that the proposed antenna concept is a very promising alternative for 5G mobile applications.

In order to investigate the exhaust structure and secondary oxidation of unburned hydrocarbon (HC) in the exhaust port, a numerical simulation was performed with 3-dimensional flow model and oxidation mechanism optimized for port oxidation. To predict the exhaust and oxidation process with consideration of flow, mixing, and temperature, 3-dimensional flow model and HC oxidation model were used with a commercial computational program, STAR-CD. The flow model were with moving grid for valve motion, which could predict the change of flow field with respect to valve lift. Optimization was performed to predict the HC oxidation with temperature range of 1200~1500K, low HC and oxygen concentration, existence of intermediate species, as typical in port oxidation. The constructed model could predict the port oxidation process with oxidation degree of 14~48% according to the engine operation conditions.
The bus should supply an equal service to the whole community as feeder trip. However the existing bus route can not supply an effective feeder service in spite of the changes in the latent demand by the variety of regional structural change. This study aimed to establish the concept which frames the bus operation and management to cope with the latent demand to the bus.
