A simulation technique is very useful method to analyze the performance on various engineering area. To automate port systems, we have need of simulation to analyze an effect of assigning and operating devices. Thus we propose simulation methodology to be applied to an analysis, evaluation, planning for port automation. To do this, we have adopted the discrete event system specification based system entity structure / model base framework for modeling and simulation environment. We have performed modeling and simulation on entities of port systems such as container crane, yard tractor, transfer crane, etc. The proposed methodology has an advantage being able to effectively simulate on alternatives of composition and operation strategy for port systems. Some case studies will show the validity of proposed simulation methodology.

The operations of the warehouses are labor intensive. Automation of the warehouse is made by efforts to shorten the work time and reduce the cost according to the change of the production form of the company and the buyer's demand. Storage warehouses vary in size and shape, and equipment and facilities used in storage warehouses vary according to purpose and use. In order to automate storage, it is necessary to introduce an operating system, which varies depending on the type of equipment and operation policy. In this paper, we review the requirements for the automation of small and medium-sized storage warehouses, and classify the equipment selection and operating system options into effective scenarios to introduce an effective automation system. Therefore, simulation is performed for each scenario, and the effect of automation is examined, and the effect of automation is verified through economic analysis through cost for automation introduction.

LMTT (linear motor-based transfer technology) is horizontal transfer system in the maritime container terminal for the port automation. For LMTT system, shuttle cars are used instead of other types of cars. They are running on the routes which are stable on the terminal ground made of steel. The terminal scheduling complexity increases with the need of improving automation. It is necessary to make a good designed performance for the terminal system. This work presents a dispatching role using fuzzy logic for the shuttle cars. It considers the actual status of terminals and takes decisions on real time. A simulation is done to validate the role and two other dispatching rules to be compared.

Recently, an automatic crane control system is required with high speed and rapid transportation. During the operation of crane system in container yard it is necessary to control the crane trolley position and loop length so that the swing of the hanging container is minimized We can do development of unmanned automation control system using automation travel control technique and anti-sway technique in crane system. Therefore, we designed a controller for Automation travel control to control the transfer crane system. Analyzed crane system through simulation, and proved excellency of control performance than other conventional controllers.

The mathematical model of a three-phase voltage source pulse-width modulation (PWM) DC/AC inverter is non-linear, and in view of the traditional linear control strategy it can not meet the requirements of designing a high-performance inverter. What's more, when the loads are not pure resistive loads, the inverter further requires that the controller possess high-performance. This paper proposes a nonlinear control strategy for the inverter called Passivity-based Control. We can alter the inverter model in three-phase abc coordinate to two-phase synchronous rotating dq coordinate for establishing the port-control Hamiltonian (PCH) model for this system. We can control the distribution of energy in the system to achieve the control aim. Simulation results show that the passivity-based control method can make this system possess a level of high-performance that is both robust and dynamic.

A major advantage of the area in and around Braunschweig is its concentration of major research institutes and small to large enterprises dealing with different modes of transportation. For many years, aviation has been a particular focus. The research institutes have aircraft and helicopters equipped especially for research projects, as well as other laboratory equipment, allowing simulation and testing of air traffic application both virtually and on real aircraft. In addition, with the Luftfahrtbundesamt (equivalent organization to FAA) and the Bundesstelle $f{\"{u}}r$ Flugunfalluntersuchung (equivalent to NTSB) both located at the Research Airport, it enables direct contact with two key air-traffic safety authorities. The institutes of DLR and the Technical University of Braunschweig are very active in rail transportation applications. Cooperation with the market leader in rail automation - Siemens Rail Automation, also located in Braunschweig - and with other companies in the Braunschweig region means that safety-critical road applications and mobility research is available due to the activities of a number of institutes. Cooperation with Volkswagen (VW) and other companies in the region ensure access to the market leaders' know-how in this sector. Current European activities within framework of the Galileo project offer particularly good opportunities for the Research Airport to leverage its expertise and position itself internationally as a specialist in safety-critical transport applications - the centre is an initiative of Niedersachsen and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport Location and navigation plays a central role in all modes of transport - air, road and rail. The market is being revolutionized by the increasing integration of GNSS. The realization of the Galileo system will provide additional opportunities for the Research Airport: Galileo as a civil operated system offers service guarantees especially in the area of safety-critical applications in transportation. Notably standards, processes and authorizations related to the certification of safety-critical applications in the areas of air, road and rail transportation are still to be determined. GAUSS, located at the Research Airport Braunschweig, as an European centre of excellence for simulation, testing and certification of safety-critical applications can offer its expertise to validate the services guaranteed by the Galileo concessionaire.

This paper deals with High Stacking System(HSS) development to develop a next generation port handling system for accommodating mega-sized container ships. It aims to develop the HSS that maximizes handling capacity within the limited space of the port. The system is expected to resolve the problem of yard space shortage as well as utilize innovative technology to ensure high-performance and automation at the terminal so as to enhance stevedoring productivity. The main objectives of this paper is suggesting the design concept drawing the HSS terminal and simulation analysis was undertaken taking into consideration performance of handling equipment, and port handling system Design concept drawing of the HSS terminal and will be used as base data for basic design and detailed design in actual operations of the terminal in the future. The HSS, to be applied to both conventional and new terminals, is expected to act as a catalyst for enhancing the value-added at ports.

Linear motor (LM) based shuttle cars will play an important role in the future transportation systems of marine terminals to cope with increasing container flows. These systems are known as agile port terminals because of their significant advantages. However, routing for multiple shuttle cars is still an open issue. We present a network model of a container yard and propose constrained dynamic programming (DP) for its routing strategy with collision avoidance. The algorithm is a modified version of typical DP which is used to find an optimal path for a single traveler. We evaluate the new algorithm through simulation results for three shuttle cars in a mesh-type container yard.

At present, most efforts tend to develop a INS which is only based linear accelerometers, because of the low cost micro-machining gyroscopes lack of the accuracy needed for precise navigation application and possible achieving the required levels of precise for micro-machining accelerometer. Although it was known in theory that a minimum of six accelerometers are required for a complete description of a rigid body motion, and any configuration of six accelerometers (except for a "measure zero " set of six-accelerometer schemes) will work. Studies on the feasible configuration of GF-INS indicate that the errors of angular velocity resolved from the six accelerometers scheme are diverged with time or have multi solutions. The angular velocity errors are induced by the biases together with the position vectors of the accelerometers, therefore, in order to treat with the problem just mentioned, researchers have been doing many efforts, such as the extra three accelerometers or the magnetometers may be taken as the reference information, the extended Kalman filter (EKF) involved to make the angular velocity errors bound and be estimated, and so on. In this paper, the typical configurations of GF-INS are introduced; for each type GF-INS described, the solutions to the angular velocity and the specific force are derived and the characteristic is indicated; one of the corresponding extend Kalman filters are introduced to estimate the angular errors; parts of the simulation results are presented to verify the validity of the equations of angular velocity and specific force and the performance of extend Kalman filter.

In the current container port, the containers standardized by the automated operating system using the latest information and communication technology are systematically made according to the optimal stowage planning. However, loading of steel coils with a unit weight of several tens of tons is still performed manually, which is very inefficient. As a result, work is delayed and safety accidents occur frequently. In this study, an automated simulation system for loading steel coils was designed to prevent misjudgment, congestion, and safety accidents that occur during the manual loading process of steel coils.
