  • A tremendous amount of budget has been put into the equipments of Korean ports, including Pusan. However, in fact, there is little systematic information system about them. Therefore , the demand of data on the equipments of National Development Project or New Port Development Project may be increasing1y needed. Techniques and information of the equipments, being rapidly developed all over the world, should be collected and analysed and then multimedia information system should be set up to use the information through internet This study suggests more efficient information system construction and its expectant effects by economic benefit analysis.

Shoreline Changes due to the Construction of Offshore Structure and its Numerical Calculation (이안 구조물 건설에 따른 해안선의 변화와 수치계산)

  • A numerical model for practical use based on the 1-line theory is presented to simulate shoreline changes due to construction of offshore structures. The shoreline change model calculates the longshore sediment transport rate using breaking waves. Before the shoreline change model execution, a wave model, adopting the modified Boussinesq equation including the breaking parameters and bottom friction term, was used to provide the longshore distribution of the breaking waves. The contents of present model are outlined first. Then to examine the characteristics of this model, the effects of the parameters contained in this model are clarified through the calculations of shoreline changes for simple cases. Finally, as the guides for practical application of this model, several comments are made on the parameters used in the model, such as transport parameter, average beach slope, breaking height variation alongshore, depth of closure, etc. with the presentation of typical examples of 3-dimensional movable bed experimental results for application of this model. Here, beach change behind the offshore structures is represented by the movement of the shoreline position. Analysis gives that the transport parameters should be taken as site specific parameters in terms of time scale for the shoreline change and adjusted to achieve the best agreement between the calculated and the observed near the structures.

  • Most domestic container terminals are lack of container storage capacity compared to the throughput of container. The main reason is the difference between the theoretical capacity applied to the development of terminals and the real capacity of a berth Another reason seems to be the increase of the container crane in number per berth to match the need for the getting larger vessel, which is resulted from the increase of the berth capacity from the start. This study, therefore, aims to suggest the economic size of container yard by comparing the existing one. For this the berth capacity was recalculated, the required yard size derived considering up to 10,000TEU vessel and then cost comparison done.

  • This research does by purpose that present safe navigation plan for ships during doing dredging construction with dredger crossing waterway of Gadeok. Dredging operations need to build sunken tunnel that cross the bottom of the sea under waterway of Gadeok for access road construction between Busan- Geoje. Accordingly, dredger must cross and dredge waterway of Gadeok fatally. There is possibility of marine accident of collision for latent danger situation of ships to navigate waterway of Gadeok relatively. Therefore, safe navigation plan of ship is groped in reply and its countermeasure is presented.

  • Recently, buckling is easy to happen as that High tensile steel that is the thin plate absence is used comprehensively for the structure. Specially, buckling is getting into important design standard in hull construction which use High tensile steel. Therefore, that grasp conduct exactly after buckling is important in stability of hull structure. In this study, examined closely about conduct and secondary buckling after initial buckling of thin plate structure which receive compressive load according to various kinds yield strength under simply supported condition that make by buckling strength formula standard in each payment in advance rule to place that is representative construction of hull in this research. Analysis method is F.E.M by ANSYS and complicated nonlinear behaviour to analyze such as secondary buckling in used arc-length method.

  • New geocentric geodetic datum has recently been realized in Korea, Korean Geodetic Datum 2002- KGD2002, to overcome problems due to the existing Tokyo datum, which had been used in this country since early 20th century. This transition will support modern surveying techniques, such as Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and ensures that spatial data is compatible with other international systems. For this realization, very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations were initially carried out in 1995 to determine the coordinates of the origin of KGD2002 based on the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF). Continuous GPS observations were collected from 14 reference stations across Korea to compute the coordinates of 1st order horizontal geodetic control points. During the campaign, GPS observations were also collected at about 9,000 existing geodetic control points. In 2006, network adjustment with all data obtained using GPS and EDM since 1975 has been performed under the condition of fixing the coordinates of GPS continuous observation stations to compute coordinate measurements of the 2nd and 3rd geodetic control points.   • Planning for the construction of ports and harbors usually takes place without the consideration of tsunamis because of their rare occurrence, approximately once every 100 years. However, recent warnings indicate that massive earthquakes could occur in Japan within the next 30 years. Earthquakes may generate large-scale tsunamis. Therefore, any tsunamis in the vicinity of Japan would also be expected to affect eastern Korea. Therefore, with the looming concerns of tsunamis and earthquakes, immediate attention must be given to the planning of ports and harbors. The warnings deserve an immediate response. The threatened regions cover a very large territory, and the degree of severity of the tsunamis is forecasted to be varied. Therefore, any modeling of the potential scenarios will require a broad array of possibilities. The objective of this paper is to consider the potential damage from tsunamis to ports and moored ships in Japan and Korea. In addition, consideration will be given to how the construction plans of ports and harbors should be changed to cope with the threats from earthquakes and tsunamis.

Firstly, navigating traffic in daytime was forecasted less than 20% of its maximum capacity through estimating the traffic volume and traffic congestion The proposal was presented to execute dredging operations in three-step and to establish temporary waterway after reviewing waterway design principles. The role of VTS center was emphasized in the new Busan Port, lastly.

  • Recently, the harbor function is being reconsidered with the viewpoint of logistics, and various efforts are given to enhance the harbor performance agglomerating all procedures of stevedoring, treatment and background transportation of freight. The harbor performance largely depends on the efficient combination of the engineering part of harbor construction and the forthcoming logistics part. It may thus be anticipated in the future that the design concept of harbor construction will be transferred to a comprehensive consideration integrating both engineering and logistics parts to maximize the ultimate harbor operational performance. In the present study, various indicators for assessing a modem container terminal performance are presented far the purpose of helping harbor engineers understand the fundamental logistics through container handling operations. The indicators are compared, analyzed and compiled, by referring to the practical cases of Busan and Gwangyang ports as an illustration.
