Experiments on evaporative spray cooling on the square plate heaters with plain or micro-porous coated surfaces were performed in this study. Micro-porous coated surfaces were made by using DOM [Diamond particle, Omegabond 101, Methyl-Ethyl-Keton] method. In case of purely air-jet cooling, the micro-porous coating doesn't affect the cooling capacity. In spray cooling three different flow patterns (complete wetting, evaporative wetting, dryout) are observed on both plain and micro-porous coated surfaces. The effects of various operating conditions, such as water flow rate, particle size, and coating thickness were investigated on the micro-porous coated surfaces. It is found that the level of surface wetting is an important factor to determine the performance of spray cooling. It depends on the balance between absorbed liquid amount by capillary force over porosity and the evaporative amount. The micro-porous coated surface has largest cooling capacity, especially in the evaporative wetting zone. It is found that the effects of liquid flow rate and coating thickness are significant in evaporative wetting zone, but are not in complete wetting and dryout zones.

To better understand the permeability of uranium sandstone, improve the leaching rate of uranium, and explore the change law of pore structure characteristics and blocking mechanism during leaching, we systematically analyzed the microstructure of acid-leaching uranium sandstone. We investigated the variable rules of pore structure characteristics based on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The results showed the following: (1) The uranium concentration change followed the exponential law during uranium deposits acid leaching. After 24 h, the uranium leaching rate reached 50%. The uranium leaching slowed gradually over the next 4 days. (2) Combined with the regularity of porosity variation, Stages I and II included chemical plugging controlled by surface reaction. Stage I was the major completion phase of uranium displacement with saturation precipitation of calcium sulfate. Stage II mainly precipitated iron (III) oxide-hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide. Stage III involved physical clogging controlled by diffusion. (3) In the three stages of leaching, the permeability of the leaching solution changed with the pore structure, which first decreased, then increased, and then decreased.
In order to solve problems such as acceleration of resource use and environmental pollution, experiments were conducted with the aim of producing indoor finishing materials that can adsorb fine dust and carbon dioxide using gelite and polymer, which are porous materials. Based on the previous experiment, gelite was substituted at each level in a matrix having a polymer S738P substitution rate of 12.5%, and the results are as follows. As the substitution rate of gelite increased, the amount of fine dust and carbon dioxide adsorption increased, which is believed to be due to physical adsorption due to the high porosity of gelite. However, further experiments are needed as the overall adsorption amount is not high due to the filling inside the matrix due to the polymer.
Diesel particulate trap is a core technology for the reduction of PM from diesel vehicles This study presents the features and the characteristics of DPF system when using pellet type filters. In comparison with wall-flow filter, the pellet filter has the advantages of cracking free during regeneration and shape flexibility. Experiments are conducted in a test bench simulated as diesel engine exhaust condition. Pressure drop and particle loading rate was compared by using two pellet filters having the porosity of 70% and 0%. Also its regeneration was tested.
A pilot scale anaerobic fixed-bed with a reactor volume of $2.8m^3$ was built to treat slaughterhouse wastewater. Bamboo rings were chosen as support media mainly because of their cheaper price in underdeveloped countries. Even with their lower porosity and specific surface, the reactor performance showed a maximum 95% COD removal efficiency at an organic loading rate (OLR) of $1kg\;COD/m^3-d$ with its corresponding hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 7.5 d. At a higher OLR of $4.0kg\;COD/m^3-d$, the COD removal efficiency of 75% was achieved with an HRT of 2 d. No big difference in COD removal efficiencies was found between the reactors operated in both upflow and downflow modes. Their operational behavior and effluent characteristics were similar. The effluent COD/TKN ratio of 6.67 at an OLR of $4.0kg\;COD/m^3-d$ was only marginal acceptable range for a subsequent biological denitrification process. Otherwise carbon supplementation is required at a lower OLR.

Considerable interest has evolved in the flow of non-Newtonian fluids in channels of noncircular cross section in compact heat exchanges. Analytical solution was developed for prediction of the flow rate and maximum velocity in steady laminar flow of any incompressible, time-independent non-Newtonian fluids in straight closed and open channels of arbitrary, but axially unchanging cross section. The geometric parameters and function of shear describing the behavior of the fluid model were evaluated for fluid flow among a bundle of rods arranged in triangular and square array. Numerical values of dimensionless maximum velocities, mean velocities, pressure-drop-flow parameters and friction factors were evaluated as a function of porosity and pitch-to-radius ratio.
The present experimental study investigates the impact of porous fins on the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics in plate-fin heat exchangers. Systematic experiments have been carried out in a simplified model of a plate-porous fin heat exchanger at a controlled test environment. Comparison of performance between the porous fins and the conventional louvered fins has been made. The experimental results indicate that friction and heat transfer rate are significantly affected by permeability as well as porosity of the porous fin. The porous fins used in the present study show a similar air-side performance to the louvered fin. The correlations of friction and modified j-factor are also given for the design of the plate-porous fin heat exchanger.
This study includes the efface of shielding gas types on $CO_2$ laser weldability of low carbon automotive galvanized steel. The types of shielding gas evaluated are He, $CO_2$, Ar, $N_2$, 50%Ar+50%$N_2$. The weld penetration, strength, formability(Erichsen test) of Laser weld are found to be strongly dependent upon the types of shielding gas used. Further, the maximum travel speed and flow rate to form a keyhole weld is also dependent upon types of shielding gas. The ability of shielding gas in removing plasma plume and thus increasing weld penetration is believed to be closely related with ionization/dissociation potential, which determine the period of plasma formation and disappearance. Further, thermal conductivity and reactivity of gas with molten pool also give strong effect on penetration and porosity formation which in turn affect on the formability and strength.
A vacuum ladling die casting system is suggested as a means to obtain a high vacuum level. A high vacuum of 17.8 mmHg is obtained by sealing the inner space of the mould. The sample product is a rear-head housing for an auto-compressor, and the die-casting with 6-cavities was conducted. The flow analysis shows that the filling speed during vacuum ladling is faster than for a non-vacuum system. The air holes in the sample product were too small to be seen with the naked eye in X-ray films. Density tests show that the high vacuum ladling system reduces the internal porosity as much as 57.8% when compared to the non-vacuum system. A defective rate of only 0.17% was found from leak testing. The results of this research prove that the high vacuum die-casting process is useful for manufacturing of aluminium components under high internal pressure.

In this study, a physical and chemical properties analysis was conducted for PCSP to evaluate properties of its materials and, for comparison purpose, was also conducted for CSP. The result of experiment confirmed improvement of iron recovery rate due to introduction of rapid water-cooling equipment and greater density of exterior and interior structure through SEM observation and porosity measurement. Also, SEM, XRD and DSC-TGA analysis showed that content of f-CaO in PCSP was minuscule so it was decided that problems of material stability including f-CaO-caused bulging failure, which has been problematic, can be solved.
