  • The daily intake of dietary fiber by Korean population in urban and rural areas was computed from an optimized food intake based on national nutrition survey, food balance sheet, and the dietary fiber content of Korean foods. The average intake of dietary fiber the nationwide and in urban and rural areas were 24, 22 and 28g in the 1970's, 20, 21 and 20g in 1980's , and 22, 22 and 21g in the 1990's , respectively. As compared with the recommended dietary allowance of 20-25g for Koreans, the average intake of dietary fiber was within the normal range, regardless of urban and rural areas. Since the dietary pattern of korean people is being changed according to different life style, the exact intakes of dietary fiber by diverse specific population groups should be assessed in the future.

  • The spatial population existing in a plane ares, such as an animal or aerial population, have certain relationships among regions which are located within a fixed distance from one selected region. We consider with the adaptive searching estimation in spatial sampling for a spatial population. The adaptive searching estimation depends on values of sample points during the survey and on the nature of the surfaces under investigation. In this paper we study the estimation by the adaptive searching in a spatial sampling for the purpose of estimating the area possessing a particular characteristic in a spatial population. From the viewpoint of adaptive searching, we empirically compare systematic sampling with stratified sampling in spatial sampling through the simulation data.

  • As the rapid and various changing of social aspects, the structures are getting bigger, higher and more complex. The importance of evacuation is on the rise as increased using frequency of multiplex sale facility and it's high population density. According to the result of a survey with 4 domestic wholesales mart's population density, the average and maximum was 0.41(人/$m^2$) and 0.46(人/$m^2$). considering evacuation dangerousness, the maximum value will be suitable for computation of evacuation capacity and this will be submitted as a basic data for computation of evacuation capacity.

  • The objective of this survey is to characterize personal magnetic field exposure of the general population in Korea. The participants of the survey on magnetic field exposure were selected randomly in some occupations. The participant wore the magnetic field meter for about 25∼28 hours and the data were stored in the meter. Because this is a preliminary for the main survey, it was done with 36 participants only. For the main survey, about 400 subjects by occupation will be done. The statistics of the 24-hour exposure data are the major concern of this survey However the survey provided the opportunity to analyze exposures corresponding to different types of activities. It was analyzed by separating periods of time corresponding to the following activities: entire 24-hour period, in bed, at work and by occupation.

  • In order to make statistically valid inferences for survey data based on complex probability sample designs, survey researchers must incorporate the sample design in the data analysis If this in not the case the variance estimates of survey statistics derived under the usual simple random sampling assumptions from an infinite population generally underestimate the true variance, which results in high Type l error level. In this article we introduce new software packages dedicated to analyze complex survey data In particular, we summarize analysis capabilities on SUDAAN Version 7.5 and SAS Version 8.

  • Vast volumes of studies of the medical and public health aspects of fertility and family planning have been published by the various institutes of health related research and university scholars in Korea. None of them, however, have dealed with the population problems associated with biologically and mentally handicapped people. It must be emphasized that the purpose of Korea's population policy should be to improve the quality of the population rather than to decrease its rate of increase. In this spirit, the first report of this study is to identify problems related with mentally and physically less fitted population, and to attempt to offer the possible solutions to the health planners and policy-makers. Several nation-wide surveys of the handicapped people in Korea have been compared. Each survey shows a wide range of difference in the prevalence of the handicaps(see Table 13). In this study, the data on the handicaps are collected by two independent system ; one by the nation-wide survey and the other by the reporting system existing at the Seoul National University Demonstration Health Project. The Chandrasekar-Deming technique was used to estimate the total number of handicaps. The estimates are summarized in the tables 8, 9 and 10. Estimate of total number of handicapped people in Korea is 601, 400 with the prevalence rate of 16.1 per thousand persons. Even if taking a number of conditions which may result in a biased estimate of the total number of the handicaps into consideration, the proportion of handicapped people in Korea has increased in the past two decade as the result of the rapid decline in fertility and childhood mortality, which consequently prolonged life expectancy of persons with congenital or acquired impediment. An increase in the proportion of handicapped people will eventually bring about serious problems of social welfare, medical care, and population qualities from various aspects including eugenics. To tackle the problem, there must be an increased emphasis on the prevention of handicaps from the government and private sector. Based on the amount and quality of data, and from the practical point of view, this study prepared a set of recommendations for the government to strengthen its programs of the preventive activities during the prenatal period and early childhood, early finding from routine examinations, and proper social and medical rehabilitation.

  • The Korean Academic Multimode Open Survey (KAMOS) is a national survey first conducted in 2016. Stratified cluster random sampling was used in an initial face-to-face survey during which panel members were recruited. The second survey allowed invited panel members to answer online or by phone. KAMOS includes both longitudinal items and omnibus items, i.e., researchers can propose questions to include on KAMOS. This paper seeks to establish that KAMOS is representative of the South Korean adult population. The demographic variables from the first survey were comparable to demographic variables from two well-respected surveys in South Korea: the KOSTAT Social Survey and the Gallup Korea Omnibus Survey. To ensure that there was no substantial difference between those who answered the first survey and those who answered the second survey, we compared the results of 22 items from the first survey. The 2,000 panel members who were invited to participate in the second survey had similar responses to the 1,008 of those who responded to the second survey. Based on our findings, KAMOS can be considered a representative sample.

  • This is a brief report oil the characteristics of elderly persons in Korea for product liability and product safety. Recently. the elderly persons rapidly go on increasing in number. So, the considerations of their characteristics in product design become more and more important not only for product safety but for the commercial target. We describe a result from the survey on some of the characteristics such as Stereotypical or common expectations in type, size, motion characteristics, and direction of control operation(i.e., population stereotypes), depth perception, and tracking performance through a structured interview and experiments. This basic study will go on.

  • In this paper we point out another advantage of systematic sampling over simple random sampling, which have not yet been spelled out in the literature. After a single sample is drawn by a sampling scheme, it is important to check whether the achived sample represents the population well or not. Therefore, a sampling scheme which avoids the possibility of selecting non-preferred samples is desirable. The simulation results are given to illustrate that, in the ordered population, the possibility of selecting non-preferred sample by systematic sampling is lower than that by simple random sampling.
