This study is aimed at offering a typology of changes in the social participation of middle-aged and older population and explore determinants for each type of such changes. The data employed for analysis are the 1st survey (2006) through the 6th version (2016) of the Korea Aging Research Panel Survey. Among the respondents of the panel survey, 1,327 males and 1,520 females with a total of 2,847 respondents were analyzed. As a result of applying the growth mixture modelling through the SPS 22.0 and M-plus 8.0 statistical programs, the changes in the social participation of middle-aged and older population have been classified into the 'high-decreasing', 'moderate-increasing' and 'low-stable' trajectory classes. Analysis of the determinants for each class shows that higher the education level, the more likely they are to belong to the high-decreasing and moderate-increasing classes than the low-stable class, and the more the population lives in urban areas, the more likely they are to belong to high-decreasing trajectory class than to low-stable class. Also, it was found that the probability of belonging to moderate-increasing trajectory class was higher than that of the low-stable class when there was no occupation. Through the results of these analyses, the implications of promoting social participation of middle-aged and older population were discussed.
The purpose of the present study is to find out and analyze the degree of population concentration of 10 selected cities. The data used for the present study were derived from the Government publications including the population and Housing Census Reports from 1966 through 1980 and the Korea Urbanic Yearbooks from 1969 through 1981. The major findings of the study were summarized as follows: The data revealed that changes of population size were more rapidly proceeded in Seoul than any other city and regarding to population composition, these selected cities had more male population than female population. The proportion of the productive age group of these selected cities were found to be higher than that of whole country each year, especially the proportion 20∼24 aged group was higher in 1980 than any other year. The number of net migrants in these cities during last 20 years, 1960∼80 was 910, 656 as Seoul obtained the largest net migrants and among the selected cities, Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Incheon, Daejeon and Jeonju had a big change in volume of net migration population, especially in 30∼39 aged group in 1980. According to Gini Concentration Ratio and Index of Concentration, the population concentration was the highest in 1980 and the population concentration was intensively accelerated during 1966∼ 1970.

This paper aims to investigate changes in the characteristics of urban spatial structure in Korea by regional groups and city size between 2000 and 2010. The characteristics of urban spatial structure is analyzed by Clark's population gradient curve in this paper. Therefore key parameters in population gradient function, such as population density gradients and population density in CBD represent the characteristics of urban spatial structure. The result shows that most of cities in Korea have experienced suburbanization rather than concentration, but small-size cities have experienced concentration during the period.

A dramatic decline in the abundance of the scaled quail (Callipepla squamata) has been observed across most of its geographic range. In order to evaluate the influence of land cover patterns and their changes on scaled quail abundance, we examined landscape patterns and their changes from the 1970s to the1990s in two large ecoregions with contrasting population trends: (1) the Rolling Plains ecoregion with a significantly decreased scaled quail population and (2) the South Texas Plains ecoregion with a relatively stable scaled quail population. The National Land Cover Database (NLCD) and the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Land Use/Land Cover data were used to quantify landscape patterns and their changes based on 80 randomly located $20{\times}20km^2$ windows in each of the ecoregions. We found that landscapes in the Rolling Plains and the South Texas Plains were considerably different in composition and spatial characteristics related to scaled quail habitats. The landscapes in the South Texas Plains had significantly more shrubland and less grassland-herbaceous rangeland; and except for shrublands, they were more fragmented, with greater interspersion among land cover classes. Correlation analysis between the landscape metrics and the quail-abundance-survey data showed that shrublands appeared to be more important for scaled quail in the South Texas Plains, while grassland-herbaceous rangelands and pasture-croplands were essential to scaled quail habitats in the Rolling Plains. The decrease in the amount of grassland-herbaceous rangeland and spatial aggregation of pasture-croplands has likely contributed to the population decline of scaled quails in the Rolling Plains ecoregion.
The trend towards ageing populations has been observed over many years in Europe and the US but has accelerated significantly in developed countries in Asia including Japan and South Korea. In the latter country the elderly population (65+) has increased 5-fold between 1960 and 2000 and this group will comprise 40% of the population by 2050. This creates a new socio-economic group with specific demands and considerable spending power. As ageing occurs a range of changes occur in the body that can be moderated by adjustments in nutrition. A significant body of evidence points to changes in the balance of glutathione synthesis and utilisation as people age. Glutathione is tile most important natural anti-oxidant of the body and the amounts present can become limited by available cysteine in the diet. A cysteine-enriched peptide product, Cysteine Peption$^{TM}$ has been developed by DMV International for dietary supplement and food applications. A qualitative consumer trial has indicated benefits including improved sleep and more energy. Animal and clinical trial will be described that provide indications on bioavailability and possible mechanisms of action of Cysteine Peption$^{TM}$ with particular focus on the ageing population.
Ditylenchus destructor isolated from diseased ginseng roots was cultured on ginseng calli, fungal mycelium (Fusarium solani), carrot discs and radish sprouts. Effects of temperature, organic material and flooding on the nematode population changes were examined. D. destructor multiplied readily on the culture media except radish sprout medium, and was cultured best on the fungal culture at 2$0^{\circ}C$. Feeding of the fungal hypha and radish root hairs, molting and mating in the fungal culture medium were observed. Addition of organic materials (perilla, sesame, soybean and ginseng leaves) in soil significantly increased Aphelenchus avenae and saprophytic nematode populations, while D. destructor populations changed little and the nematode population growths were limited by the organic amendments (except sesame leaves). The nematode populations in soil including D. destructor were decreased by flooding. The results indicate that D. destructor may survive but not multiply readily in soil without host plants and that it can be effectively controlled by flooding.

This study aims to predict the changes in population distribution in Korea by considering spatio-temporal characteristics of major migration reasons. For the purpose, we analyze the spatio-temporal characteristics of each major migration reason(such as job, family, housing, and education) and estimate the transition probability, respectively. By appling Markov chain model processes with the ChapmanKolmogorov equation based on the transition probability, we predict the changes in the population distribution for the next six years. As the results, we found that there were differences of population changes by regions, while there were geographic movements into metropolitan areas and cities in general. The methodologies and the results presented in this study can be utilized for the provision of customized planning policies. In the long run, it can be used as a basis for planning and enforcing regionally tailored policies that strengthen inflow factors and improve outflow factors based on the trends of population inflow and outflow by region by movement factors as well as identify the patterns of population inflow and outflow in each region and predict future population volatility.

This study aims to identify the trend of changes in tourist floating population before and after COVID-19 in major tourist destinations in Jeju Island through spatial analysis. Seongsan-eup and Andeok-myeon in Jeju Island were selected as the research area, and the research period was set at 1 year before and 2 years after the COVID-19 outbreak. For the analysis, mobile floating population data was refined and processed to calculate floating population distribution and floating population increase/decrease data. This was converted into spatial data and an overlay analysis was performed with location data of major tourist attractions. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the floating population of indoor tourist attractions and small facilities decreased immediately after COVID-19, and that in open coastal areas or large facilities, the floating population decreased less or actually increased. In conclusion, in tourism development, it is necessary to identify changes in floating population according to the characteristics of tourist facilities, and it is necessary to develop tourism facilities and strategies that can respond to risk situations such as pandemics when developing tourist destinations.

Land-use in northern Cheongju region is changing rapidly because of the increased interactions of human activities with the environment as population increases. Land-use change detection is considered essential for monitoring the growth of an urban complex. The analysis was undertaken mainly on the basis of the multi-temporal Landsat images (1991, 1992 and 2000) and DEM data in a post-classification analysis with GIS to map land-use distribution and to analyse factors influencing the land-use changes for Cheongju city. The area of each land-use category was also calculated for monitoring land-use changes. Land-use statistics revealed that substantial land-use changes have taken place and that the built-up areas have expanded by about $17.57km^2$ (11.47%) over the study period (1991 - 2000). This study illustrated an increasing trend of urban and barren lands areas with a decreasing trend of agricultural and forest areas. Land-use changes from one category to others have been clearly represented by the NDVI composite images, which were found suitable for delineating the development of urban areas and land use changes in northern Cheongju region. Rapid economic developments together with the increasing population were noted to be the major factors influencing rapid land use changes. Urban expansion has replaced urban and barren lands.

This study aims to provide the biological and geographical materials to identify the changes in population of Family Ardeidae included Egretta alba modesta, Egretta garzetta, Bubulcus ibis, and Nycticorax nycticorax and establish their conservation measurement in terms of the fragmented and deteriorated habitat by human development such as housing and park projects. Wonjucheon Stream was measured the highest species diversity since the survey site was relatively less interfered by the surrounding human beings showing lower disturbance elements. However, the closer the stream comes downstream, the more the artificial disturbance elements generate, confirming that the species better adapted to contamination grow in more density so that the species composition becomes simplified. It implies that feeding place as well as breeding-growing places is also more closely related to the changes in population structure and species composition of Family Ardeidae. The results of Family Ardeidae immigration in Taejang-dong, Wonju, among the other survey sites, revealed that a total of 231 came to the site in 2006; and 210 in 2011, showing more or less reduction in the population. In the mean while, Namyang-dong in Hwaseong City showed the continuous decrease in population number of Family Ardeidae with 135 before development and 60 during development, resulting in the number never growing but continuously narrowing over and over after development. As a result of surveying the number of Family Ardeidae that bred following the findings above, Taejang-dong in Wonju City had 4 species of Family Ardeidae being bred, however, showing the decrease in number of population from 998 in 2006 to 589 in 2011. Namyang-dong in Hwaseong was confirmed to have as many as 352 of the population in 2006 and 230 in 2008; after the deforestation on their habitat, they had not lived in the site any longer, suggesting that the development would significantly affect Family Ardeidae.
