Nucleate pool boiling heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) were measured with one nonazeotropic mixture of Propane/Isobutane and two azeotropic mixtures of HFC134a/Isobutane and Propane/HFC134a. All data were taken at the liquid pool temperature of $7^{\circ}C$ on a horizontal plain tube with heat fluxes of $10kW/m^2\;to\;80kW/m^2$ with an interval of $10kW/m^2$ in the decreasing order of heat flux. The measurements were made through electrical heating by a cartridge heater. The nonazeotropic mixture of Propane/Isobutane showed a reduction of HTCs as much as 41% from the ideal values. The azeotropic mixtures of HFC134a/Isobutane and Propane/HFC134a showed a reduction of HTCs as much as 44% from the ideal values at compositions other than azeotropic compositions. At azeotropic compositions, however, the HTCs were even higher than the ideal values due to the increase in the vapor pressure. For all mixtures, the reduction in heat transfer was greater with a larger gliding temperature difference. Stephan and $K{\ddot{o}}rner's$ and Jung et al's correlations predicted the HTCs of mixtures with a mean deviation of 11%. The largest mean deviation occurred at the azeotropic compositions of HFC134a/Isobutane and Propane/HFC134a.
The effects of the narrowed upside gap on nucleate pool boiling heat transfer in a vertical annulus were investigated experimentally. For the study, a stainless steel tube with a diameter of 25.4 mm and saturated water that kept an atmospheric condition were used. The ratio between the gaps measured at the upper and the lower regions of the annulus ranged from 0.18 to 1. Two different lengths of the modified gap also were investigated. The change in heat transfer due to the modified gap became evident as the gap ratio decreased and the length of the gap increased. As the gap ratio became less than 0.51, a significant decrease in heat transfer was observed compared to the plain annulus. The longer gap size resulted in an additional decrease in heat transfer. The major cause for the tendency was attributed to the formation of lumped bubbles around the upper region of the annulus followed by the increased flow friction between the fluid and the surface around the modified gap.
Effects of the width and location of a flow disturbing circular plate, installed at a vertical tube surface, on nucleate pool boiling heat transfer of water at atmospheric pressure have been investigated experimentally. Through the tests, changes in the degree of intensity of liquid agitation have been analyzed. The plate changes the fluid flow around the tube as well as heat transfer coefficients on the tube surface. It is identified that the plate width changes the rate of the circulating flow whereas its location changes the growth of the active agitating flow. Moreover, the flow chugging was observed at the downside of the plate.
Effects of tube inclination on pool boiling heat transfer have been studied for the saturated water at atmospheric pressure. For the analysis, seven inclination angles varying from the horizontal to the vertical and two tube diameters(25.4 and 30.0 mm) are tested. According to the results, inclination angles result in much change on heat transfer. For the same wall superheat(about $5.3^{\circ}C$) the ratio between two heat fluxes for the $45^{\circ}$ inclined and the vertical has the value of more than five when the tube diameter is 25.4mm. As the inclination angle is increasing from the horizontal to the vertical direction heat transfer is gradually increasing because of the increase in liquid agitation. However the detailed tendency depends on the ratio between the tube length and the diameter.

Pool boiling heat transfer of water saturated at atmospheric pressure was investigated experimentally on Cu surfaces with high-temperature, thermally-conductive, microporous coatings (HTCMC). The coatings were created by sintering Cu powders on Cu surfaces in a nitrogen gas environment. A parametric study of the effects of particle size and coating thickness was conducted using three average particle sizes (APSs) of $10{\mu}m$, $25{\mu}m$, and $67{\mu}m$ and various coating thicknesses. It was found that nucleate boiling heat transfer (NBHT) and critical heat flux (CHF) were enhanced significantly for sintered microporous coatings. This is believed to have resulted from the random porous structures that appear to include reentrant type cavities. The maximum NBHT coefficient was measured to be approximately $400kW/m^2k$ with APS $67{\mu}m$ and $296{\mu}m$ coating thicknesses. This value is approximately eight times higher than that of a plain Cu surface. The maximum CHF observed was $2.1MW/m^2$ at APS $67{\mu}m$ and $428{\mu}m$ coating thicknesses, which is approximately double the CHF of a plain Cu surface. The enhancement of NBHT and CHF appeared to increase as the particle size increased in the tested range. However, two larger particle sizes ($25{\mu}m$ and $67{\mu}m$) showed a similar level of enhancement.

In this work, nucleate pool boiling heat transfer coefficients(HTCs) of 5 refrigerants of differing vapor pressure are measured on horizontal low fin and Turbo-B square surfaces of 9.53 mm length. Tested refrigerants are R32, R22, R134a, R152a and R245fa and HTCs are taken from 10 $kW/m^2$ to critical heat fluxes for all refrigerant at $7^{\circ}C$. Wall and fluid temperatures are measured directly by thermocouples located underneath the test surface and in the liquid pool. Test results show that Critical heat fluxes(CHFs) of all enhanced surfaces are greatly improved as compared to that of a plain surface in all tested refrigerants. CHFs of all refrigerants on the 26 fpi low fin surface are increased up to 240% as compared to that of the plain surface. HTCs on both low fin and Turbo-B surfaces increase with heat flux. After certain heat flux, however, they decrease. CHFs of the Turbo-B enhanced surface are lower than that of the 26 fpi low fin surface. This phenomenon is due to the difference in surface structure of the low fin and Turbo-B surface.
In this work, nucleate pool boiling heat transfer coefficients(HTCs) of 5 refrigerants of different vapor pressure are measured on horizontal Thermoexcel-E square surface of 9.53 mm length. Tested refrigerants are R32, R22, R134a, R152a and R245fa. HTCs are taken from 10 $kW/m^2$ to critical heat fluxes for all refrigerant at $7^{\circ}C$. Wall and fluid temperatures are measured directly by thermocouples located underneath the test surface and in the liquid pool. Test results show that critical heat fluxes(CHFs) of Thermoexcel-E enhanced surface are greatly improved as compared to that of a plain surface in all tested refrigerants. CHFs of all refrigerants on the Thermoexcel-E surface are increased up to 100% as compared to that of the plain surface. The improvement of Thermoexcel-E surface in CHF, however, is lower than that of the low fin surface. HTCs on Thermoexcel-E surface increase with heat flux. But after certain heat flux, HTCs began to decrease due to the difficulty in bubble removal caused by the inherent complex nature of this surface. Therefore, at heat fluxes close to the critical one, sudden decrease in HTCs needs to be considered in thermal design with Thermoexcel-E surface.
Single-phase convection and partial nucleate boiling in free-surface and submerged jet impingements of subcooled water ejected through a 2-mm-diameter circular pipe nozzle were investigated by local measurements. Effects of jet velocity and nozzle-to-imping-ing surface distance as well as heat flux on distributions of wall temperature and heat transfer coefficients were considered. Incipience of boiling began from far downstream in contrast with the cases of the planar water jets of high Reynolds numbers. Heat flux increase and velocity decrease reduced the temperature difference between stagnation and far downstream regions with the increasing influence of boiling in partial boiling regime. The chance in nozzle-to-impinging surface distance from H/d=1 to 12 had a significant effect on heat transfer around the stagnation point of the submerged jet, but not for the free-surface jet. The submerged jet provided the lower cooling performance than the free-surface jet due to the entrainment of the pool fluid of which temperature increased.
An experimental study was carried out to identify the various regimes of natural convective pool boiling and to determine the boiling heat transfer curve and Critical Heat Flux(CHF) on a vertical square surface having a 70mm width and a 70mm height. The heater made of copper block with embedded cartridge heaters is submerged in a water tank at atmospheric pressure. As the heat flux increases from 100kW/㎡ to 1.2MW/㎡, the heat transfer regime migrates from the nucleate boiling to the film boiling. The boiling heat transfer data are fitted by Rohsenow type correlation. An explosive vapor generation on the heated surface, whose size and frequency are characterized by the heat flux, is visualized using a high speed digital imaging system.
