In an optical observing system, three pairs of observations at equal time intervals are required for the orbit determination method to obtain orbital information of an unknown space objects. In this paper, we propose a method of estimating a streak for acquiring three pairs of observations using one streak image information. Satellite trajectory simulation data were generated for nine cases using the STK program in order to verify the characteristics of the orbit of space object and estimation performance. Simulation was performed by applying three approaches that can estimate the next streak position after a few seconds from one streak image information, and the estimation performance was evaluated. Linear vector method and Kalman Filter method based on the linear assumption tend to increase the estimation error in the region where the nonlinearity is large. However estimation method using the polynomial curve fitting based on the least square method showed smaller and uniform error result than the previous methods.

This paper presents the flow characteristics of a ball valve used for a gas pipeline. Understanding of the internal flow of a ball valve is an important to analyze the physical phenomena of the valve. Present experimental study was performed by IEC 60534-2-3, the international standard for an industrial control valve testing procedure. Pressure measured at upstream and downstream of the valve, flow-rate and gas temperature passing the inside of the gas pipeline were measured with respect to valve opening rates. Throughout the experimental measurement of the ball valve, empirical equation of the pressure drop between the ball valve according to the mass flow rates is successively obtained using a polynomial curve fitting method. In addition, flow coefficient for determining the valve capacity is also analyzed with respect to valve opening rates using the curve fitting method.

Purpose of this research is a development for the curve fitted equations that can improve practical calculation and work application when seismic performance has been evaluated and this work has been made a study of the dynamic response under various boundary conditions of buried pipelines to compare the dynamic behavior of concrete pipe and steel pipe, FRP pipe. This research have been developed curve fitted equations that can be improving efficiency and practicality. Using a nonlinear least square method, and after testing several different exponential equations, Proposed the curve fitted equations to give the best result and constant value by the propagation velocities. With these results, dynamic response analysis and seismic performance evaluation have been achieved on concrete pipe, steel pipe and FRP pipe that have a various boundary conditions. Degree of a polynomial expression and coefficient value by propagation velocity have been calculated when using the curve fitting equations.

In this paper, we have proposed an automated system that accurately measures the thickness and unbalanced wear of brake shoes, and the distance between brake shoes and wheels for travelling rolling stock. The images of brake shoes are captured automatically while rolling stock is passing by an inspection station. And in order to measure the thickness, etc. the locations of brake shoes are first determined because the locations are not the same in the captured image. Toward this goal, shadow regions between the brake shoes and wheels are utilized that are common in all captured images. The boundary of the shadow regions is modeled by an second order polynomial, and constrained curve fitting method is adopted to detect a curve (the initial curve) that passes through the regions. Then, three curves that correspond to the front, back of brake shoes and wheels, and a line that passes through the vertical surface of brake shoes are detected using the initial curve and intensity change information. Finally, the thickness, etc. are calculated using the detected curves and line, and experimental results showed that the brake shoe thickness was measured with an accuracy of 0.654mm.
In this paper, we propose and efficient curve reconstruction method based on the classical least-square fitting scheme. Specifically, given planar sample points equipped with normals, we reconstruct the objective curve as the zero set of a hierarchical implicit ZP(Zwart-Powell)-spline that can recover large holes of dataset without loosing the fine details. As regularizers, we adopted two: a Tikhonov regularizer to reduce the singularity of the linear system and a discrete Laplacian operator to smooth out the isocurves. Benchmark tests with quantitative measurements are done and our method shows much better quality than polynomial methods. Compared with the hierarchical bi-quadratic spline for datasets with holes, our method results in compatible quality but with less than 90% computational overhead.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the gas leakage for a 30-inch ball valve. The ball valve was designed and manufactured for a natural gas transportation through a long-distance pipeline mainly installed in the permafrost region. The gas leakage assessment is based on the pressure testing criteria of international standards. Pressure conditions of the gas leakage test was employed 70 bar, 100 bar, and 110 bar. The amount of the gas leakage at each pressure condition was small and had a value under the pressure testing criteria, ISO 5208. Gas leakage with respect to the test pressure was predicted by the polynomial curve fitting using the experimental results. It is found that the gas leakage rate according to the pressure is proportion to a second order curve.
Recently, the generalized Hoek-Brown (GHB) failure criterion has been actively employed in various rock engineering calculations, but the analytical form of the corresponding Mohr failure envelope is not available, making it difficult to extend the application of the GHB criterion. In order to overcome this disadvantage, this study proposes a new method to express the tangential friction angle as an explicit function of normal stress by invoking the polynomial best-fitting to the relationship between normal stress and tangent friction angle implied in the GHB failure function. If this normal stress - tangential friction angle relationship is best-fitted with linear or quadratic polynomial function, it is possible to find the analytical root for tangential friction angle. Subsequently, incorporating the root into the relationship between shear stress and tangential friction angle accomplishes the derivation of the approximate Mohr envelope for the GHB criterion. It is demonstrated that the derived approximate Mohr failure envelopes are very accurate in the entire range of GSI value.

The purpose of this study is for Human error prevention to acquire Collision Risk Perception Index (CRPI) sensed by the Officer Of the Watch (OOW) when the approaching distances are reduced in six types of ship encountering situations (Head on, $045^{\circ}$, $090^{\circ}$, $135^{\circ}$, Overtaking, Overtaken) between own ship and a target ship and then to predict CRPI fitting coefficients with polynomials in the curve-fitting process. CRPI acquisition experiments are carried out on two coast-guard ships and with the total of 30 crew members. Analysing results shows that CRPI data have goodness of fit to the six types of encountering situation. Futhermore, the One-Way ANOVA results show that CRPI has a negative affect to the OOW's age, career and license grade as the approaching distances is reduced. The availability of CRPI curve fitting with 3 degrees of polynomial was testified through the RMSE as 1.19 to Head on, 0.87 to $045^{\circ}$, 0.81 to $090^{\circ}$, 0.71 to $135^{\circ}$, 1.29 to Overtaking and 0.87 to Overtaken.

An empirical and efficient method is presented for calculating the dynamic increase factor to amplify the applied loads on the affected bays of a steel frame structure with semi-rigid connections. The nonlinear static alternate path analysis is used to evaluate the dynamic responses. First, the polynomial models of the extended end plate and the top and seat connection are modified, and the proposed polynomial model of the flush end plate connection shows good agreement as compared with experimental results. Next, a beam model with nonlinear spring elements and plastic hinges is utilized to incorporate the combined effect of connection flexibility and material nonlinearity. A new step-by-step analysis procedure is established to obtain quickly the dynamic increase factor based on a combination of the pushdown analysis and nonlinear dynamic analysis. Finally, the modified dynamic increase factor equation, defined as a function of the maximum ratio value of energy demand to energy capacity of an affected beam, is derived by curve fitting data points generated by the different analysis cases with different column removal scenarios and five types of semi-rigid connections.
A series of study on energy dependence in chemiluminescence dosimetry with sugar and sorbite produced in two different countries was carried out administering a dose of 5 Gy to the samples at six different mean photon energies of 30, 50, 80, 130, 662 and 1250 keV. The results revealed distinct energy dependence of chemiluminescence(CL) output of sugar and sorbite. Although the energy dependence, in general, could be fitted by a polynomial of (os E, with I being radiation energy, up to cubic term, we reached a conclusion that the adoption of a fitting function, $y_{R}$$^{=a}$.(1-e $^{-b.logE}$)$^{c}$ +d, deduced from theoretical energy response curve calculated as the ratio of the mass energy absorption of the samples of interest to the soft tissue is more reasonable and rational. Herecoefficients $y_{R}$ is CL intensity, and a, b, c and d are constants to be determined in the fitting process. Energy dependence of relative sensitivities of one sample to the other, discrepancy in sensitivities of the samples from the two countries, and prominent grain size effect in Sorbitol were also shown.shown.
