This paper presents a fabrication method of microcapsules encapsulating fluorescent nanoparticles sensitive to an organic liquid, which is potentially applicable to the encapsulation of protein, cell and drug. It uses the supra-molecular self-assembly of a block copolymer at the interface of the stable and controllable droplets of water suspended with fluorescent nanoparticles and the polymer solved organic. The size and uniformity of the microcapsules were examined for the various polymer concentrations by using SEM image analysis. The maximum standard deviation of the produced microcapsules of less than 3.5% was obtained from the microcapsules produced from the same conditions. The inclusion of fluorescent nanoparticles was visualized in the fluorescence microscope and by using TEM image. It is shown that this fabrication method can provide the uniform size microcapsules with a higher inclusion.
The purpose of this work was the producing of a biodegradable poly($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (PCL) microcapsule and the analyzing of form and features for the manufacturing conditions which could be observed in a prospective drug delivery systems (DDS) through drug release. The effects of different stirring rates, stirring times and concentrations of emulsifier for the diameter and form of the microcapsules were observed using image analyzer (IA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). As a result, the microcapsules were made in wrinkle and spherical forms with a mean particle size of 40~300$\pm$20 $mu extrm{m}$. PCL microcapsules containing drugs were confirmed using FT-IR spectra. The role of interfacial adhesion between PCL and drug was determined by contact angle measurements. The drug release test of PCL microcapsules was characterized by UV/vis. spectra. It was found that the drug release rate of the microcapsules prepared with high concentration emulsifier was significantly fast.
The purposes of this work were the producing of a biodegradable poly($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (PCL) / poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) microcapsule and the analyzing of form and features for the manufacturing conditions which could be observed in a prospective drug delivery systems through drug release. The effects of emulsifier, emulsifier concentration, and stirring rate for the diameter and form of the microcapsules were observed using image analyzer and scanning electron microscope. The role of interfacial adhesion between PCL/PEO and drug was determined by contact angle measurements, and the drug release test of the microcapsules was characterized by UV/vis. spectra. As a result, the microcapsules were made in spherical fonns with a mean particle size of 170 nm∼68 $\mu$m. And the work of adhesion between water and PCL/PEO increased with increasing the content of PEO, probably due to the increased the hydrophilicity. It was also found that the drug release rate from the microcapsules significantly increased with increasing the content of PEO, which could be also attributed to the increasing of the hydrophilic groups or the degree of adhesion force at interfaces.
Microcapsules of two different self-healing agents, 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene (ENB) and ENB with a crosslinker, surrounded by a melamine-urea-formaldehyde shell were manufactured. In this work, a red dye was incorporated into the self-healing agents as a tracer for better visual observations. It revealed that the incorporation of a red dye into self-healing agents did not disturb the formation of microcapsules from the examination of thermal resistance, particle size/size distribution and morphology of the resulting microcapsules. Releasing of self-healing liquid into the induced crack from ruptured microcapsules and filling between crack planes were observed using an optical microscope. Also observed was the reaction of filled healing agent with embedded Grubbs' catalyst in an epoxy coating layer.

This study evaluated a simple and useful route to the synthesis of mesoporous $TiO_2$ microcapsules with a hollow macro-core structure. A hydrophilic precursor sol containing the surfactants in the hydrophobic solvents was deposited on PMMA polymer surfaces modified by non-thermal plasma to produce mesoporous shells after calcination. The surface of the PMMA polymer spheres was coated with $NH_4F$ and CTAB to control the interfacial properties and promote the subsequent deposition of inorganic sols. These hollow type mesoporous $TiO_2$ microcapsules could be applied as an efficient substrate for the immobilization of DNA oligonucleotides.

In recent years, self-healing coatings have been the subject of increasing interest. The ability of such coatings to self-repair local damage caused by external factors is a major factor contributing to their attractiveness. Metals are extensively used in modern society in a range of applications from infrastructure to aircraft to consumer products. The protection of metals, primarily from corrosion has been an active area of materials science for many years. The aim of this review is the demonstration for recent progress achieved in the development of carrier-based self-healing coatings for the protection of metals. This review mainly covers the reports published after 2010. Two main types of carriers for corrosion inhibitors or healing agents-polymer capsules and porous composite inorganic nanoparticles-are described.
We synthesized microcapsule absorbent with crosslinked poly(styrene-$alt$-maleic anhydride) (PSMA) as a core and PSMA as a shell by a precipitation polymerization method for the delayed absorption of excess water in cement mortar. cPSMA-PSMAs with core-shell structure were synthesized with ratios of 1/1, 1/2 and 1/3 as core monomer mass to shell monomer mass to control shell thickness. We observed the hydrolysis of PSMA in cement-saturated aqueous solution by a FTIR spectrometer. We observed good core-shell structure microcapsules for 1/2(cPSMA #3), but observed incomplete core-shell structure for 1/1(cPSMA #2) and 1/3(cPSMA #4) of core/shell monomer ratios. The swelling ratio of cPSMA #3 in cement-saturated aqueous solution was increased until 20 min. After that it was decreased until 2 hrs swelling time, and they started to increase again. The viscosities of cement paste with cPSMA #3 microcapsules were very slowly increased until 1 hr and increased fast after 1.5 hrs. Cement mortar with 0.5 wt% cPSMA #1 having only core part showed about 5% increase in compressive strength compared to that of plain cement mortar. cPSMA #3 added cement mortar showed the highest compressive strength with 7% increase.
Selenium was initially considered toxic to humans, but it was then discovered that selenium is essential for normal life processes. Selenium plays important roles in antioxidants. It is expected that chitosan microcapsules containing nano-selenium will be able to be used as a key material in bio-medical and cosmetic applications. The high concentration of chitosan derivatives guarantees increased antioxidative activity. Both inorganic and organic forms of selenium can be nutritional sources. The antioxidant properties of selenoproteins help prevent cellular damage from free radicals. The objective of this experiment was to study the antioxidative activity of chitosan nano-selenium. Our experiments were divided into five groups, in the presence of various concentrations(0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.7%, and 0.9%) of chitosan. We performed an assessment of the antioxidant properties and cytotoxicity of respective concentrations of chitosan nano-selenium. The antioxidant activity was examined by the free radical scavenging activity on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) assay. The cytotoxicity effect was measured by means of 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazole-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT) assay. As a result, the electron donating abilities of 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.7%, and 0.9% of chitosan nano-selenium exhibited effective andioxidant scavenging activity at 12.5 ${\mu}g/m{\ell}$ against DPPH radicals. 0.3% chitosan nano-selenium did not show cytotoxicity on human keratinocytes. In general, the cytotoxicity of 0.1% and 0.9% chitosan nano-selenium showed the lowest effects. Though low cytotoxicity of 0.5% and 0.7% chitosan nano-selenium exhibited 29.67% and 38.4% against human keratinocytes on adding 100 ${\mu}g/m{\ell}$ and 50 ${\mu}g/m{\ell}$, respectively, cell vitality was recovered with 200 ${\mu}g/m{\ell}$. These findings support the notion that chitosan nano-selenium may be useful as a new active ingredient source for bioactive compounds.

We present a microcapsule manufacturing technique, which contains a polymer coated white $TiO_2$ and black particles suspension as the core material for a electrophoretic display ink, via the in-situ polymerization method using melamine? formaldehyde as a wall material. The obtained capsules have $50 {\sim} 300 {\mu}m$ of the diameter range. They show a good mechanical strength and thermal and optical property. We fabricate the microcapsules to the single layer to test the black/white electrophoretic display application.
The aim of this work is the fabrication of polyelectrolyte microcapsules composed of biocompatible polymers such as chitosan, heparin and alginate, to encapsulate the fluorescein isothiocyanate(FITC)-albumin, and to investigate the protein release behavior therefrom. Polyelectrolyte capsules with 4-layer structures could be prepared with biocompatible materials by oppositely charged adsorption using melamin-foramide as a template. Transmission electron microscope(TEM), scanning electron microscope(SEM) and optical microscope confirmed hollow capsule structures. Protein release before and after encapsulation was monitored with a UV-Vis spectrometer. Microcapsules have different behaviors depending on the kind of polyelectrolyte polymers, chitosan-heparin capsules or chitosan-alginate capsules. In conclusion, the polyelectrolyte multilayer shells can be switched between an open and closed state by means of tuning the pH value.
