Polyelectrolyte membranes for humidity-sensing were fabricated using a layer-by-layer adsorption process based on the spontaneous self-assembly of alternating layers of cationic and anionic polymers on a silanized ITO patterned glass substrate. The substrate is dipped successively into dilute solutions of a polyanion and a polycation. The homopolymers and copoymers of diallyldimethylammonium chloride (DDA), allylamine hydrochloride (AA), 2-[(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethyl ammonium chloride (METAC) and vinylbenzyl tributyl phosphonium chloride(VTBPC) were used as the polycations. In this experiment, it was found that the resistance varied according to the chemical structure of the polycation. The resistance varied from $10^7$ to $10^5$$\Omega$, as the humidity was increased from 60 (relative humidity) to $95\%$RH, which is the range of RH values required for a dew sensor operating at high humidity.
Modeling and experiments of three electrospinning systems have been presented and they are i) axisymmetric instabilities in electrospinning of various polymeric solutions, ii) non-isothermal modeling of polymer melt electrospinning, and iii) control of nanoparticle distribution and location via confined self-assembly of block copolymers during electrospinning. It has been demonstrated that predicted simulations are in good agreement with corresponding electro spinning experiments, and theoretical analysis provides fundamental understanding of phenomena that take place during electrospinning of various polymeric liquids.
Due to the potential importance and usefulness, usage of highly ordered nanoporous anodized aluminum oxide can be broadened in industry, when highly ordered anodized aluminum oxide can be placed on a substrate with controlled thickness. Here we report a facile route to highly ordered nanoporous alumina with the thickness of hundreds-of-nanometer on a silicon wafer substrate. Hexagonally or tetragonally ordered nanoporous alumina could be prepared by way of thermal imprinting, dry etching, and anodization. Adoption of reusable polymer soft molds enabled the control of the thickness of the highly ordered porous alumina. It also increased reproducibility of imprinting process and reduced the expense for mold production and pattern generation. As nanoporous alumina templates are mechanically and thermally stable, we expect that the simple and costeffective fabrication through our method would be highly applicable in electronics industry.

Peptidoglycan is an extensively cross-linked polymer essential for the integrity of the bacterial cell wall. Many antibiotics act by disruption of its biosynthesis and assembly, several are targeted against the cytoplasmic enzymes that synthesize the key intermediate UDP-N-acetylmuramyl pentapeptide. One such drug is fosfomycin, which inactivates the first enzymes in this pathway, UDP-N-acetylglucosamine enopyruvyl transferase (murZ).(omitted)
The biotin-avidin complex, as a model recognition system, has been constructed through N-hydroxysuccinimide(NHS) reaction on a variety of substrates such as a smooth Au film, electrochemically roughened Au electrode and chemically modified mica. Stepwise self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of biotin-avidin system were characterized by surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and surface plasmon resonance (SPR). A strong SERRS signal of rhodamine tags labeled in avidin from the SAMs on a roughened gold electrode indicated the successful complex formation of stepwise biotin-avidin recognition system. AFM images showed the circular shaped avidin aggregates (hexamer) with ca. $60{\AA}$ thick on the substrate, corresponding to one layer of avidin. The surface coverage and concentration of avidin molecules were estimated to be 90% and $7.5{\times}10^{-12}mol/cm^2$, respectively. SPR technique allowed one to monitor the surface reaction of the specific recognition with high sensitivity and precision.

Two types of nano composite were obtained by in situ chemical method in polyaniline (PANI)/dodecyl-benzenesulfonic acid (DBSA) system depending on the use of either ammonium persulfate (APS) or ferric chloride ($FeCl_3$) as the oxidant. In order to study the difference of the two composites in the surface characteristics, thermal stability, and electric properties, the composite films were studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and temperature dependent DC electrical conductivity. The results revealed a large difference in the surface morphology, thermal stability, and the microstructure properties between the two composites, and these differences were considered responsible for the molecular order and conductivity.

An experimental study is performed to evaluate the performance and the efficiency by humidifying MEA and by making the double-layered catalyst in a fuel cell system which is taken into account the physical and thermal concept. An electrical output produced by PEMFC(Polymer Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) is measured to assess the performance of the stack and the efficiency is also evaluated according to the different situation in which is placed with and without the humidification of MEA(Membrane Electrolyte Assembly). Subsequently, It is found that the measured values of MEA voltage and current are influenced by the MEA temperature, humidification, and the double-layered catalyst which gives more enhanced values to apply for electric units.
Morphological characteristics and formation of symmetric polystyrene-block-poly(1,4-butadiene) copolymer (PS-b-PBD) in thin films upon solvent-annealing were investigated by using atomic force microscopy (AFM). The thin films solvent-annealed in cyclohexane revealed the perforated lamellae of poly(1,4-butadiene) in the matrix of polystyrene while those solvent-annealed in n-hexane exhibited highly disordered patterns. Interestingly, when the thin films of PS-b-PBD were solvent-annealed with binary mixtures of cyclohexane and n-hexane, the morphological transition from the perforated lameallae to the perpendicularly-oriented lamellae of poly(1,4-butadiene) could be induced by changing the mixing ratio of both solvents. We also demonstrated that after microdomians of poly(1,4-butadiene) were successfully degraded by UV-$O_3$, linear poly(dimethyl siloxane) chains were back-filled into the etched regions of the thin film and then converted to silica nano-objects by oxygen plasma treatments.
Drilling processes in fiber-reinforced polymer composites are essential for the assembly and fabrication of composite structural parts. The economic impact of rejecting the drilled part is significant considering the associated loss when it reaches the assembly stage. Therefore, this article tends to illustrate the effect of cutting conditions (feed and speed), and laminate thickness on thrust force, torque, and delamination in drilling woven E-glass fiber reinforced epoxy (GFRE) composites. Four feeds (0.025, 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 mm/r) and three speeds (400, 800, and 1600 RPM) are exploited to drill square specimens of 36.6×36.6 mm, by using CNC machine model "Deckel Maho DMG DMC 1035 V, ecoline". The composite laminates with thicknesses of 2.6 mm, 5.3 mm, and 7.7 mm are constructed respectively from 8, 16, and 24 glass fiber layers with a fiber volume fraction of about 40%. The drilled specimen is scanned using a high-resolution flatbed color scanner, then, the image is analyzed using CorelDraw software to evaluate the delamination factor. Multi-variable regression analysis is performed to present the significant coefficients and contribution of each variable on the thrust force and delamination. Results illustrate that the drilling parameters and laminate thickness have significant effects on thrust force, torque, and delamination factor.
