자기탄성체 리본의 공진을 이용한 인-라인 오일 점도센서 (In-line Oil Viscosity Sensor Implementing An Elastomagnetic Ribbon Resonance)

  • A new magnetoelastic technique of oil viscosity measurement, where the oil viscosity is estimated by frequency shift of natural oscillations of magnetoelastic ribbon, is implemented in this study. Laboratory tests of the detector prototype are performed for measurement of viscosity of base synthetic and mineral oils. It was found that measurement accuracy was better when damping factor was estimated in comparison with accuracy of frequency of damped oscillations. Thus the oil viscosity was calibrated as a function of number of pulses of the damped oscillations of magnetoelastic ribbon. Result generally showed that developed detector is promising for in line oil viscosity measurement in wide viscosity range from 10 cSt up to 600 cSt, while the viscosity measurement was relatively instable when the viscosity of test oil was over 400 cSt.

  • The effect of micro-cavities fabricated using laser surface texturing (LST) technique on polyoxymethylene (POM) surface was studied in terms of heat affected zone (HAZ), cavity geometry, surface roughness, deformation of cavity along with sliding cycles, and tribological characteristics. Cavity process parameters were lamp current, process time, and the stream of air used to minimize the flow of molten polymer into cavity. Especially, the deformation of cavity geometry was extensively studied to provide deep insight into morphological analysis of the cavities. Also, this paper presents the behavior of friction and wear of POM specimens as a function of sliding cycles.

  • Wear debris morphology is closely related to the wear mode and mechanism occured. Image recognition of wear debris is, therefore, a powerful tool in wear monitoring. But it has usually required expert's experience and the results could be too subjective. Development of automatic tools for wear debris recognition is needed to solve this problem. In this work, an algorithm for automatic wear debris recognition was suggested and implemented by PC base software. The presented method defined a characteristic 3-dimensional feature space where typical types of wear debris were separately located by the knowledge-based system and compared the similarity of object wear debris concerned. The 3-dimensional feature space was obtained from multiple feature vectors by using a multi-dimensional scaling technique. The results showed that the presented automatic wear debris recognition was satisfactory in many cases application.

  • An apparatus for measuring oil oxidation was developed, which is capable of being mounted to mechanical devices for detecting power of fluorescent light reflected from oil in real time as an indication of the oil oxidation. This device has an advantage over conventional fluorescence spectrometers where the thin film is required for the measurement. Clean and used oil samples (mineral and synthetic oils) were tested by the developed apparatus that calculates a fluorescence quantum yield and a light absorption coefficient of the oil based upon the signals from the two light-receiving members and evaluates the degree of oil oxidation of test oils based on the fluorescence quantum yield. Results generally show that the developed device is able to effectively evaluate oil oxidation characteristics on-site in the field.

  • Generally, to product multi-grade oil like engine oil, a sort of mineral base oil is mixed with a fundamental additive package liquid and a polymer liquid as viscosity index improver in order to improve the lubricating property of base oil. That is, engine oil is the mixture of more than two fluids. Specially, a polymeric type liquid cannot be seen as the linear viscosity like Newtonian fluids. In this research, by using the governing equation describing non-Newtonian hydrodynamic lubrication related with the mixture of incompressible fluids based on the principle of continuum mechanics, it will be compared the bearing performance between the mixture of each liquid to be blended and multi-grade engine oil as a single fluid in a high speed hydrodynamic journal bearing. Further, it is to be found the way estimating the performance of the blended multi-grade engine lubricant in a journal bearing in advance before blending by using the physical properties of mineral base oil, fundamental additive liquid and polymer liquid of viscosity index improver. So, it can be reduced the number of trial and error to get the wanted lubricant by selecting the proper volume fraction of each liquid to satisfy the expected performance and estimating in advance the performance of various multi-grade oils before blending. Therefore, it can be shorten the developing time and saved the developing cost.

3D 프린팅된 표면의 슬라이딩 방향에 따른 트라이볼로지적 특성 연구 (A Study on Tribological Properties of 3D-Printed Surface with Respect to Sliding Orientation)

  • This paper presents an experimental investigation of friction and wear characteristic with respect to patterns occurring on the surface of 3D printed polymer products by fused deposition modeling method. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the patterns and sliding directions on the tribological properties of 3D printed polymer surface. A cubic specimen was printed using polylactic acid filament as the printing material. Friction tests were conducted for different directions with respect to the patterns that were generated on the top and the side surfaces of the specimen, by using a ball-on-reciprocating type tribotester. SUJ2 bearing ball of which the diameter was 11 times greater than the width of the largest pattern was used as the counter surface to assess the frictional behavior. Friction tests were conducted on the top and the side surfaces with respect to the patterns in 3 (0°, 45°, 90°) different directions respectively. Coefficient of friction increased as cycles increased in all cases. The results of the tests showed that the lowest coefficient of friction was measured with the 45° sliding direction on the side surface. The wear rate was the lowest at 45° sliding direction on the side surface, while it was the highest at 0° sliding direction on the top surface. Coefficient of friction of about 0.45 was determined to be the converging value on the top compared to the side surface.

  • 폴리알파올레핀은 낮은 유동점, 높은 점도지수와 같은 물리화학적 특성이 기존의 광유보다 우수한 합성윤활유이다. 본 논문은 퍼옥사이드계 개시제를 이용하여 올레핀을 사용하지 않고 이소파라핀 분자간의 알킬레이션 반응을 통한 합성 윤활유 제조에 관한 새로운 경로를 제시한다. 평균 탄소수가 i-$C_{16}$, i-$C_{18}$, 그리고 i-$C_{23}$인 세가지 장쇄 이소파라핀의 알킬레이션과 i-$C_{18}$과 2-pentene의 알킬레이션을 di-tert butyl peroxide 라디칼 개시제를 사용하여 여러가지 반응조건에서 수행하여 단독 알킬레이션 반응 경로를 확인하였다. 세가지 유분으로 제조된 알킬레이트를 합성 윤활유로의 적용 가능성을 알아보기 위하여 동점도, 점도지수, 및 유동점을 조사하였다. i-$C_{16}$ 및 i-$C_{18}$ 유분으로 제조된 단독 알킬레이트는 극초고점도지수(>140)와 낮은 유동점(< $-30^{\circ}C$)을 보였다.

양이온 중합을 이용한 폴리알파올레핀의 미세구조 조절에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Control of Microstructures of Polyalphaolefins via Cationic Polymerization)

  • 폴리알파올레핀(PAO)은 유동점, 점도지수, 열/산화 안정성이 광유 기반의 윤활유보다 우수한 합성 윤활유이다. 본 연구에서는 1-펜텐, 1-헥센, 1-옥텐, 및 1-도데센을 단량체로 사용하고 세가지 종류의 알루미늄계 루이스 산촉매로 양이온 중합을 수행하여 다양한 PAO를 합성하였다. PAO 중합 성능과 제조된 PAO의 분자량, 동점도, 유동점과 점도지수를 다양한 중합 조건에서 조절할 수 있었다. 알킬 알루미늄 할라이드계 촉매가 기존의 $AlCl_3$계 촉매에 비하여 촉매 성능이 우수하였다. PAO의 미세구조를 비행-시간형 질량분석기(TOF-MS) 해석을 통하여 PAO의 미세구조와 윤활유로의 성능(점도지수, 유동점)과의 상관관계를 규명하였다. 특히, PAO의 점도지수는 알파 올레핀의 탄소수 증가에 따라 상승하여, PAO의 분지길이가 점도지수와 밀접한 상관관계가 있음을 확인하였다.

  • Ball bearing is a device that supports and transmits a load acting on a rotating shaft, and it is a type of rolling bearings that uses the rolling friction of the balls by inserting balls between the inner ring and the outer ring. Grease, which is prepared by mixing a thickener with a base oil, is a lubricant commonly used in bearings and has the advantage of a simple structure and easy handling. Bearings are increasingly being used in high value-added products such as semiconductors, aviation, and robots in the era of the 4th industrial revolution. Accordingly, there is an increasing demand for bearing grease. The selection of grease is an important factor in the bearing design. Therefore, a study must be conducted on the grease life evaluation to select an appropriate grease according to operating conditions such as a high temperature, high rotational speed, and high load. In this study, we evaluate the life of ball-bearing grease according to various operating conditions, namely, temperature, speed, and load changes. For this, we develop and theoretically verify a grease life test machine for ball bearings. We conduct a life test of grease according to various operating conditions of bearings and predict the grease life with a 10% and 50% failure probability using the Weibull analysis. In addition, we analyze the oxide characteristics of the grease over time using the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and the deterioration characteristics of the grease using the carbonyl index.

$DDPO_4$$ODPO_4$SAM 코팅의 나노 응착 및 마찰 특성 연구 (Nano Adhesion and Friction of $DDPO_4$ and $ODPO_4$ SAM Coatings)

  • Nano adhesion between SPM(scanning probe microscope) tips and DDPO$_4$(octadecylphosphoric acid ester.) and ODPO$_4$(octadecylphosphoric acid ester) SAM(self-assembled monolayer.) was experimentally studied. Tests were performed to measure the nano adhesion and friction in both AFM(atomic force microscope) and LFM(lateral force microscope) modes with the applied normal load. DDPO$_4$ and ODPO$_4$ SAM were formed on Ti and TiOx surfaces. Ti and TiOx were coated on the Si wafer by ion sputtering. Adhesion and friction of DDPO$_4$ and ODPO$_4$ SAM surfaces were compared with those of OTS(octadecyltrichlorosilane) SAM and DLC surfaces. DDPO$_4$ and ODPO$_4$ SAM converted the Ti and TiOx surfaces to be hydrophobic. When the surface was hydrophobic, the adhesion and friction forces were found lower than those of bare surfaces. Work of adhesion was also discussed to explain how the surface was converted into hydrophobic Results also showed that tribological characteristics of DDPO$_4$ and ODPO$_4$ SAM had good properties in the adhesion, friction, wetting angle and work of adhesion. DDPO$_4$ and ODPO$_4$ SAM could be one of the candidates for the bio-MEMS elements.
