  • The present work is focused on the synthesis of a series of fully aliphatic polyimides and the incorporation of adamantane moieties and siloxane groups to them and studies the deviation in the basic traits of the fully aliphatic polyimides. In this work, we wish to discuss how adamantyl group and siloxane moieties influence the basic properties of aliphatic polyimides (APIs), by synthesizing various fully aliphatic polyimides and polyimidesiloxanes (APISiO).

  • The new approach for synthesis of novel condensation monomers and polyimides on the basis of them was developed.   • Polyimides are one of the most important classes of polymers used in the microelectronics and photoelectronics industries. Because of their high thermal stability, chemical resistance, and good mechanical and electric properties, polyimides are often applied in photoresists, passivation and dielectric films, soft print circuit boards, and alignment films within displays. Recently, fully aliphatic and alicyclic polyimides have found applications as optoelectronics and inter layer dielectric materials, due to their good transparencies and low dielectric constants $(\varepsilon)$. The low molecular density, polarity and rare probability of forming inter- or intra-molecular charge transfers, resulting in lowering of the dielectric constant and high transparency, are the most striking characteristics of aliphatic polyimide. However, the ultimate end use of polyimides derived from aliphatic monomers is in their targeted applications that need less stringent thermal requirements. Much research effort has been exerted in the development of aliphatic polyimide with increased thermal and mechanical stabilities, while maintaining their transparencies and low dielectric constants, by the incorporation of rigid moieties. In this article, the recent research process in synthesizing fully aliphatic polyimides, with improved dimensional stability, high transparency and low $\delta$values, as well as the characterizations and future scope for their application in micro electric and photo-electronic industries, is reviewed.

주쇄에 광분해성 방향족 술포닐옥시이미드기를 함유한 감광성 폴리이미드 (Photosensitive Polyimides Having Aromatic Sulfonyloxyimide Groups in the Main Chain)

  • 고분자 주쇄에 cyclobutane 또는 페닐과 방향족 술포닐옥시이미드 구조를 갖는 감광성 폴리이미드를 합성하여 광분해 특성에 있어서 고분자의 구조가 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 폴리이미드는 N-히드록시와 염화 술포닐의 축중합에 의해 제조하였다. 합성된 폴리이미드는 25$0^{\circ}C$까지 열분해가 일어나지 않고 안정하였다. 254nm의 광조사에 따른 폴리이미드의 광분해는 분광학적 측정에 의해 N-O 결합의 절단 또는 이미드 moiety의 계열에 기인되는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구의 폴리이미드는 포지티브형의 광분해성 고분자로의 활용이 가능한 것이 확인되었으며, 특히 pyromellitic diimide moiety를 함유하는 폴리이미드의 포지티브 화상은 높은 감도와 해상도를 나타내었다.

  • A novel diamine monomer, containing fluorine and phosphine oxide, bis(3-aminophenyl) 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl phosphine oxide (mDA6FPPO), was prepared via Grignard reaction, and utilized to prepare polyimides with dianhydrides such as PMDA, 6FDA, BTDA or ODPA, by the conventional two-step route; preparation of poly(amic acid), followed by solution imidization. The polyimides were characterized by FT-IR, NMR, and DSC with intrinsic viscosity and refractive index also being evaluated. A phosphine oxide containing monomer, bis(3-aminophenyl)phenyl phosphine oxide (mDAPPO) and a commercial 3,3-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (mDDS) were also used for comparison. The polyimides derived from mDA6FPPO exhibited high T$\sub$g/, excellent solubility and low birefringence.

Synthesis and characterization of novel polyimides with diamines containing thiophene moieties

  • Noble diamine monomers containing thiophene moiety were prepared, such as 2,5'''-diamino-2, 2':5', 2'':5'', 2'''-quaterthiophene (4TDA) and 2, 5'''''-diamino-3'', 4'''-dihexyl-2,2':5', 2'':5'', 2''':5''', 2'''':5'''', 2'''''-sexithiophene (6TDA). Then, these monomers were utilized to prepare polyimides with 3,6-diphenylpromellitic dianhydride (DPPMDA), 3,6-di(4'-trifluoro-methylphenyl) pyromellitic dianhydride (6FPMDA) or 3,6-di(3',5'-bis (trifluoromethyl)phenyl) pyromellitic dianhydride (12FPMDA) via a conventional two-step process. The polyimides were characterized by FT-IR, TGA and DSC, and then subjected CV, UV-vis and PL measurements. The polyimides containing thiophene moiety exhibited high glass transition temperatures ($280{\sim}310^{\circ}C$) and excellent thermal stability (> $420^{\circ}C$) in air as well as green emission (535~586 nm).

  • Fluorinated polyimides with high thermal stability, low optical absorption loss in the optical communication wavelengths of 1.3 and 1.55㎛, and low birefringence and water absorption have been investigated for optical waveguide applications. These polyimides were prepared from 2,2-bis(3,4-dicar-boxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA) with 1,4-bis-(4-amino-2-trifluoromethyl-phenoxy) tetrafluorobenzene (ATPT) , 1,4-bis-(4-amino-2-trifluoromethyl-phenoxy) benzene (ATPB) , and 1,3-bis-(4-amino-2-trifluoromethyl-phenoxy ) 4,6-dichlorobenzene (ATPD ), respectively. The polyimides obtained had glass transition temperatures that ranged from 260 to 280$\^{C}$, and low water absorption less than 0.4% and low optical loss (> 0.2 dB/cm) at 1.3 and 1.55㎛. Birefringency values of polymer films ranged from 0.0041 to 0.0066.

  • It was attempted to synthesize polyimides from PPMDA and 3FPPMDA with mDAPPO/pPDA in order to afford CTE of 17ppm and adhesion property of 80g/mm, besides high Tg (>$300^{\circ}C$), good thermal stability (>$500^{\circ}C$), low water absorption and good solubility. The polyimides were prepared via a conventional two-step process; preparation of poly(amic-acid), followed by solution imidization by refluxing in NMP with o-DCB and the molar ratio of mDAPPO/pPDA was varied. The polyimides were characterized by FT-IR, NMR, DSC and TGA. In addition, intrinsic viscosity, solubility and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) were also measured.

  • 2,2-Bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane(BAPAF)과 pyromelltic dianhydride(PMDA), 3,3',4,4'-benzophenontetracarboxylic dianhydride(BTDA), 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)-bis(phthalic anhydride)(6FDA)을 사용하여 용해성 폴리이드를 합성하였다. 합성된 폴리이미드를 여러가지 유기용제(acetone, NMP, DMAc, DMSO, THF, DMF)를 이용하여 용해성 실험을 행한 결과 열적 이미드화한 경우에는 녹지 않고 팽윤 되었으나 화학적 이미드화한 경우에는 모든 구조가 여러 유기용제에 대해 좋은 용해성을 나타냈다. 이러한 용해도 차이는 화학적 이미드화할 경우 탈수제로 들어간 acetic anhydride에서 나온 $CH_3COO^-$가 하이드록실기와 에스테르 반응을 하여 분자사슬에 결합한데 기인한다. 합성된 폴리이미드의 유리전이온도는 열적 이미드화 경우가 더 높은 값을 나타냈으며 TGA 측정 결과 모든 구조가 $300^{\circ}C$ 이상까지 열적 안정성을 나타내었다. 합성된 폴리이미드의 결정성은 XRD를 이용하여 조사한 결과 모두 무정형으로 나타났다.

  • Polyimides are one of the most important classes of highperformance polymers. Due to their excellent electriccal, thermal, and high-temperature mechanical properties. The polyimide and its derivatives have found many applications. But their uses are limited by their poor solubilities. In fact, most polyimides were processed in the form of their precursors, polyamic acid, which were subsequently converted to the imide structure.
