Residual Stress Behavior of High Temperature Polyimide Thin Films depending on the Structural Isomers of Diamine (Diamine의 구조적 이성질체에 따른 내열성 폴리이미드 박막의 잔류응력거동)

  • The relationships between morphological structures and residual stress behaviors of polyimide thin films depending on isomeric diamines were investigated. For this study, Poly(phenylene biphenyltetracarboximide) (BPDA-PDA) and poly(oxydiphenylene biphenyltetracarboximide) (BPDA-ODA) films were prepared from their isomeric diamines: 1,3-phenylene diamine (1,3-PDA) 1,4-phenylene diamine (1.4-PDA), 3,4'-oxydiphenylene diamine (3,4'-ODA), and 4,4'-oxydiphenylene diamine (4,4'-ODA), respectively. For those films, residual stresses were detected in-situ during thermal imidization of the isomeric polyimide as a function of processing temperature over the range of 25~$400^{\circ}C$ using. Thin Film Stress Analyzer (TFSA). In comparison, residual stress of BPDA-1.4PDA having better in-plain orientation and chain order was the lowest value of 7MPa whereas those of BPDA-1,3-PDA, BPDA-3,4'-ODA, and BPDA-4,4'-ODA were in the range of 40-50MPa. Conclusively, the effect of morphological nature (chain rigidity, chain order, orientation) and chain mobility relating to the g1ass transition behavior on the residual stress of isomeric polyimide thin films wart analyzed.

  • In this work, the mechanical and electrical properties, and thermal stability of vapor-grown carbon nanofibers/polyimide (VGCNFs/PI) composite film synthesized by in-situ polymerization were investigated in terms of tensile properties, volume resistivity and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively. From the results, the addition of VGCNFs with a certain amount into polyimide led to obvious improvement in tensile strength. The volume resistivity of the films was decreased with increasing the VGCNFs content and the electrical percolation threshold appeared between 1 and 3 wt% of VGCNFs content, which was probably caused by the formation of interconnective structures among the VGCNFs in a composite system. The thermal stability of the film was higher than that of pure PI one. This result indicated that the crosslinking of VGCNFs/PI Composites was enhanced by well-distribution of YGCNFs in PI resin, resulting in the increase of the thermal stability of the resulting composites.

  • Polyimide thin films were fabricated through the vapor deposition polymerization method, and the structure and capacitance characteristics of them were investigated in detail. It was found that the chemical structure and uniformity of the film could be stabilized with curing. The peaks of $720cm^{-l},\;1380cm^{-1}\;and\;1780cm^{-1}$ show C=O stretch mode, C-N stretch mode and carbonyl stretch mode, and those of polyimide which cured over $300^{\circ}C$ were fixed. It was found that capacitance was changed in proportion to temperature.

  • The electron tunnel effect in polvimide LB films sandwiched between metal electrodes has been investigated in the present work by a study of both the elastic and inelastic tunneling components. By the results of elastic tunneling experiments in Au/Pl/Au tunneling junction, we can judge the height and thickness of tunnel barrier. The inelastic current in Inelastic Electron Tunneling Spectroscopy(IETS) is due to the interaction of the tunneling electron with the vibrational modes of the molecular species in the barrier. Measurements are done on Au/PI/Pb tunneling junctions. The spectra obtained are the second derivatives of the current-voltage characteristics of these junctions : specifically, d$^{2}$1/dV$^{2}$ as a function of voltage V. Because the energies measured by IETS can be directly compared to those measured by infrared and Raman spectroscopy, IR-RAS spectroscopy also measured for reference.

  • This paper describes the imidization of PAAS(polyamic acid alkylamine salts) Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films and the electrical properties of PAAS and polyimide(PI) LB films, The imidization conditons were investigated by TGA(Thermal Gravi-tational Analysis). FT-IR and UV/ visible absorption spectra. A thermal imidiczation was peformed at 300$^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The electrical properties of the PAAS and polymide LB films were measured by current-voltate(L-V) characteristics It shows that the electrical condcutivity of PL LB films is about 10 $\^$-15/S/cm which is two orders of magnetiude lower than that of the PAAS LB films A Schottky effect was also observed in both films.

  • Organic-based electroluminescent devices have attracted lots of interests because of their possible application as a large-area flat panel display. Polyimides have been used for photo-alignment in LCD(Liquid Crystal Display). However, the devices used in this study were fabricated with polyimide doped with N,N'-Diphenyl-N,N'-di(m-tolyl)-benzidine(TPD) (3, 10, 30wt%) for electroluminescent hole tranforting layer(EHTL). The photochemical and physical properties of EHTL was studied. The film thicknesses were reduced under illumination with UV light. Polyimide films doped with TPD(3wt%) was irradiated and the electrical properties of the films were studied.

Generation of High Pretilt Angle in a Cell with Oblique non-polarized UV Light Irradiation on Polyimide Surface (폴리이미드막표면위에 경사진 자외선 조사를 이용한 액정셀에서의 고프리틸트각의 발생)

  • We investigated the generation of high pretilt angle for nematic liquid crystal (NLC) in a cell with obilique non-polarized ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation on mixtured polyimide surface. It was found that the monodomain alignment of NLC is obtained with an angle of incidence of 75∼85 degrees on PI surface. We consider that the monodomain alignment of NLC is attributed to anisotropic dispersion force effect to photo-depolymerization of polymer. We successfully observed that the pretilt angle of NLC is generated above 5 degree with an angle of incidence of 75∼85 degrees. It is considered that the pretilt angle generation NLC is attributed to interaction between the LC molecules and the polymer surfaces.

  • The electrical properties of vapor deposition polymerized polymide thin films for getting an in-line system with manufacturing process of semiconductor device, have been studied. Polyimide thin films fabricated by vapor deposition polymerization(VDP) method based on PMDA and 4,4'-DDE monomer were confirmed by FT-IR spectra. It is found that the major conduction carriers of thin films are ions, and the hopping length of ions is almost same with monomer length at the temperature over 120.deg. C through the analysis of electrical conduction mechanism. Also, The activation energy is about 0.69 eV at the temperature of >$30^{\circ}C$ - >$150^{\circ}C$ and it is shown that the resistivity at which thin films can be used as an insulating film between layers of semiconductor device, is 3.2*10$^{15}$ .ohm.cm.

  • Using a solution of polyamic acid salt obtained in combination with polyimide acid, we successfully prepared thermally stable multilayers(41, 35, 31 layers) films disilane-containing polyimide by Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique. We studied the electrically phenomena occurring at the metal(Au)/polyimide(Pl) LB film/metal(Au). Also, we then examined the of Pl LB films by means of current-voltage (I-V) and resistance measurement.

  • The polyimide films were prepared by imidizing the polyamic acid long-chain alkylamine (dimethylhexadecylamine) salt films with a thermal and chemical treatment, where the polyamic acid alkylamine salt film were formed on various substrates by using Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) method. The imidization of polyamic acid alkylamine salt films with various thickness were identified with FT-IR and UV-visible absorption spectroscopies. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) have been used to investigate the surface morpology of polyamic acid alkylamine salt and imidized films.
