In this study, polyurethane-acryl emulsion resins were synthesized from HDI (hexamethylene diisocyanate), IPDI (isophorone diisocyanate), Polyol, 2-HEMA (2-hydroxy ethylmethacrylate), n-BA (n-butyl acrylate) and MMA (methylmethacrylate). The effects of polyol types on the properties of polyurethane-acryl emulsion resin, such as degree of strength and water resistance and on the manufacturing process were investigated. In addition, the results were compared with those of acrylic emulsion. The test results showed that polyester type polyol demonstrated stronger tensile strength and higher water resistance with time than did acrylic emulsion and polyether type polyol.
In this study, waterborne polyurethane was prepared from polyester polyol, $H_{12}MDI$, DMPA and sulfopropylated polypropyleneglycol-${\alpha}$,${\omega}$-diamine (SP). The $T_g$ of waterborne polyurethane was increased as the SP content increased, while it was decreased at the NCO/OH ratio of 1.8. Also the hydrolysis-resistance and tensile strength were increased as the SP content increased. The tensile strength decrement of WPU-SP was 2~5% with the exception of WPU-SP-1.

Aqueous urethane dispersion resin begins to assume commercial importance due to increasing environmental awareness of VOC in coating industry. Moreover there have been strong industrial needs for the development of reactive-type polyurethane flame retardant coatings. In this study, chlorinated polyester polyols were synthesized by two step polycondensation reaction using mono chloroacetic acid, adipic acid, trimethylol propane, and 1,4-butanediol. In the next step polyurethane dispersion was prepared using these chlorinated polyester polyols and isophorone diisocyanate with dimethylol propionic acid(DMPA) and trimethylamine. The structure of chlorinated polyol was characterized by GPC, FT-IR and NMR. Particle size and its distribution were examined in terms of various dispersion parameters including molecular weight and composition of polyol, amount of DMPA, and NCO/OH ratio, etc. The effect of chlorinated polyols on flammability was also evaluated.
Bio-based polyester polyol was synthesized via esterification between azelaic acid and isosorbide. After esterification, bio-based polyurethanes were synthesized using polyester polyol, 1,3-propanediol as the chain extender, and 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate, in mixing ratios of 1:1:1.5, 1:1:1.8, 1:1:2, and 1:1:2.3. The bio TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) samples were characterized by using FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), TGA (Thermal Gravimetric Analysis), DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry), and GPC (Gel Permeation Chromatography). The mechanical properties (tensile stress and hardness) were obtained by using UTM, a Shore A tester, and a Taber abrasion tester. The viscoelastic properties were tested by an Rubber Processing Analyzer in dynamic strain sweep and dynamic frequency test modes. The chemical resistance was tested with methanol by using the swelling test method. Based on these results, the bio TPU synthesized with the ratio of 1:1:2.3, referred to as TPU 4, showed the highest thermal decomposition temperature, the largest molecular weight, and most compact matrix structure due to the highest ratio of the hard segment in the molecular structure. It also presented the highest tensile strength, the largest elongation, and the best viscoelastic properties among the different bio TPUs synthesized herein.
Various waterborne polyurethanes (WPU) with three different types of polyol such as ester type polyol [adipic acid (A)/BD/3-methyl-1,5-pentandiol (MPD) and A/BD]//carbonate type polyol (C/HD/MPD, C/HD, C/BD)//ether type polyol (PTMG) were prepared in this study. This study focused on the effect of polyol type on the properties of WPU. Soft segment Tg (Tgs), 100% elastic modulus and tensile strength were highest when using carbonate polyol, followed by ester polyol and ether polyol, while those of elongation showed the opposite trend. The WPU synthesized with MPD - containing polyol showed lower Tgs, 100% elasticity and strength, and higher elongation than MPD - free WPU. The % transmittance and transparency of the WPU film containing the MPD component was superior to that of the WPU film containing no MPD component, and it was found that the film based on carbonate polyol was slightly better than the film based on ester polyol and ether polyol.

The kinetics of the transesterification of dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) with diethylene glycol (DEG) was studied in a batch reactor. bis-hydroxyethoxytethyl-terephthalate (BHEET), which is polyester polyol monomer, can be produced by the transesterification reaction. Zinc acetate was used as a catalyst. Previous kinetic studies was carried out in a semi-batch reactor where generated methanol was removed so that reverse reactions were not considered in the kinetic expressions, resulting in inaccuracy of the kinetic model. Mathematical models of a batch reactor for the tranesterification reaction, which took the reverse reaction into account, were developed and used to characterize the reaction kinetics and the composition distribution of the reaction products. More accurate models than previous ones were obtained and found to have a good agreement between model predictions and experimental data. Effect of process variables on the esterification reaction was investigated based on the experimental and simulation results.
Benzoic acid polyester/lactone polyol were synthesized by polycaprolactone 0201 as diol, trimethylolpropane as triol, adipic acid as dibasic acid, and benzoic acid as monobasic acid. Polyisocyanate prepolymer Desmodur N-100 of HDI-biuret type was used in this study. Two-component polyurethane coatings were prepared by blending benzoic acid polyester/polycaprolactone, polyisocyanate, wetting/dispersing agent, white pigment, and flowing agent. Various properties were examined on the film coated with the prepared polyurethane. They showed excellent physical properties such as abrasion resistance, accelerated weathering resistance, and yellowness index. They also showed good physical properties such as flexibility, impact resistance, 60$^{\circ}$ specular gloss, cross hatch adhesion, hydrocarbon resistance, and lightness index difference. Hardness of coating showed a little poor character. The introduction of polycaprolactone 0201 as diol in the polyurethane coatings improved the hydrocarbon resistance, impact resistance, and flexibility of coatings. According to the drying and curing behavior with the contents of benzoic acid, they seem to have reasonable coating properties such as drying time of 2 to 4 hours and pot-life time of 20 to 37 hours.

In this study, we synthesized UV-curable urethane acrylates with different contents of BA, reactive diluent and characterized their physical properties such as thermal, mechanical properties, adhesive strength and flexibility resistance. From a result of DSC, Tg of polyol and acrylate resin were separated as the BA content increased more than 40%. Also, tensile strength, elongation and adhesive strength decreased with increasing the BA content. The UV-curable urethane acrylate with 40% BA has shown good flexibility resistance compared to other resin due to poor hardness and Tm of acrylate resin.

Resource recovery and recycling of materials and products, including polyurethanes is viewed as a necessity in today's society. Most urethane polymers are made from a polyol and a diisocyanate. these and be chemicals such as water, diamines or diols that react with isocyanate groups and add to the polymer backbone. The problems of recycling polyurethane wastes has major technological, economic and ecological significance because polyurethane itself is relatively expensive and its disposal whether by burning is also costly. In general, the recycling methods for polyurethane could be classified as mechanical, chemical and feedstock. In the chemical recycling method, there are hydrolysis, glycolysis, pyrolysis and aminolysis. This study, the work was carried out glycolysis using sonication ant catalyzed reaction. Different kinds of recycled polyols were produced by current method(glycolysis), catalyzed reaction and sonication as decomposers and the chemical properties were analyzed. The reaction results in the formation of polyester urethane diols, the OH value which is determined by the quantity of diol used for the glycolysis conditions. The glycolysis rates by sonication for the various glycols, increased as fallows: PPG
