Before occupation of an apartment housing, the builders are required to inform the test result of IAQ to the public. However, there is no simplified method to predict IAQ before measurement of pollutant concentration. In this study, a simplified way of predicting IAQ based on the distribution of indoor pollutant concentration is proposed. 7 different cases of air change rate have been simulated through CFD analysis to get the distribution ratio of each pollutant material and then simplified functions were used with CRIAQ1 values derived from CFD simulation to evaluate by comparing the influence of each material in the indoor pollutant concentration. Again, a lot of efforts which can improve the indoor air quality have been performed. Materials used in indoor space are labeled with their pollutant emission level. Installation of ventilation system in residential buildings will be regulated by a building codes sooner or later. But it is important to understand the fact that layout of walls, location or size of openings will influence the indoor air flow and pollutant concentration. And location of emitting material influences to indoor air pollutants distribution. But until now there is few recognition and consideration of these factors. Therefore, in this paper the effects of these factors is proved and some kind of guideline is made for designers after a comparison of typical apartment floor plan and a new type plan with their average pollutant concentration and its distribution of each room. CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) program was used to show the indoor air flow and pollutant concentration distribution. For this purpose, a typical $100m^2$ apartment floor plan was chosen as a case study model and several alternatives were reviewed to improve the IAQ performance. The simulation took place in the condition of natural ventilation through windows.
The purpose of this study is the development of a system for estimating non-point sources pollutant loads from a watershed, which enables users to get insights of pollutant load distribution in the watershed during rain as well. Based on the Geographic Information System, this non-point source pollutant loading estimation system(NSPLES) consists of three distinct models such as a distributed rainfall-runoff model, a soil loss and delivery model, and a non-point source pollutant model. It also includes GIS modules for preprocessing the input data for the models and graphical postprocessing of the model outputs. The system output aren't only the hydrograph, sedimentograph, and pollutograph at the watershed outlet, but also various maps that show the distribution of soil loss over the watershed. The developed system was applied to the two upper stream areas of Sumjin river basin, Ssangchi and Gwanchon basins, and three rainfall events for respective subbasins during 1992 and 1998 were selected for the system application. The results of this showed relatively higher corelation between observed data and simulated data, and proved the applicability of the system.

The objective of this study was to estimate the trends of each pollutant using the air pollution monitoring networks data from January 2005 to December 2008 in Daegu area. Also, the spatial characteristics of each pollutant were determined using the Pearson correlation coefficients and COD (coefficients of divergence). In this study, the trends of hourly, monthly, seasonal, and total average concentrations of each pollutant for the 10 sites were analyzed. The Ihyeon site showed highest concentration for the $SO_2$, $NO_2$, and PM10}. In the case of $O_3$, the Jisan site showed highest concentration among the other sites. Also, industrial area presented highest concentration for the $SO_2$, CO, and PM10. On the other hand, $NO_2$ showed highest in commercial area. The IDW (inverse distance weighting) method was used to estimate characteristics of spatial distribution. The results provide identify spatial distribution for each pollutant. Also, the Pearson correlation coefficients and COD values provide spatial variability among the monitoring sites. The COD of each pollutant showed very low values for all of the sites pairs. On the other hand, the Pearson correlation coefficients showed high values for all of the sites pairs. Finally, analysis of spatial variability can be used to characterize the spatial uniformity and similarity of concentrations from each pollutant.
This study investigates the seasonal variation and spatial distribution characteristics of pollutant load, as executing the quality valuation of pollutant load inflowing into Yeong-il Bay from on-land including the Hyeong-san River. Annual total pollutant generating rate from Yeong-il Bay region are 202ton-BOD/day, 620ton-SS/day, 42ton-TN/day, and 16ton-TP/day, respectively. Particularly, the generating ration of the pollutant loads from the Hyeong-san River is greater than that of any other watershed of the Yeong-il Bay, of which BOd is about 78.2%, SS 88.5%, T-N 62.5%, T-P 73.1%, As calculating Tank model with input value of daily precipitation and evaporation of 2001 year in drainage basin of the Hyeong-san River, the estimated result of the annual river discharge effluence from this river is 830106㎥, As a result to estimating annual effluence rate outflowing at the rivers from each drainage basin. annual inflow pollutant rates are 10,633ton-BOD/year, 19,302ton-SS/year, 15,369ton-TN/year, 305ton-TP/year, respectively. The population congestion region of the Pohang-city is a greater source of pollutant loads than the Neang-Chun region with wide drainage area. Therefore, the quantity of TN inflowing into Yeong-il Bay is much more than T-P. The accumulation of pollutant load effluenced from on-land will happen at the inner coast region of Yeon-il Bay. Finally, We would make a prediction that the water quality will take a bad turn.
This study investigates the distribution characteristics and relationship of water quality, and analyzes the spatial and temporal variation and distribution of the pollutant loads at Yeong-il Bay. The results of these analysis, the concentrations of nutrient loads (T-N and T-P), both appeared to be at the maximum value in November, while most small values were taken in May for the T-N, and in August for the T-P. For COD, the maximum concentration was in August, which has much precipitation during the same season, T-N was at the mean, and T-P was at the minimum value. Using the cluster analysis to develop the division of the sea basin by the dendrogram, before and after construction of Pohang New-port, the variation characteristics of water quality of Yeong-il Bay were discussed. The in flowing pollutant loads were transported to the landward by the high-density salinity water volume of the bottom layer therefore, it formed nutrient trap or coastal trapping areas of the pollutant load. By this mechanism, it is clear that the water volume with high-density nutrient exists on both sides of the Pohang New-port. Thus, the sea basins increasing concentration of the pollutant load at Yeong-il Bay are most prevalent at Hyeong-san estuary, the Pohang Old, and New-port. To improve water quality of this sea basin, the reduction of these nutrients loads should be the highest priority.
The prediction of various emissions from coal combustion is an important subject of researchers and engineers because of environmental consideration. Therefore, the development of the models for predicting pollutants very fast has received much attention from international research community, especially in the field of safety assessment. In this work, response surface method was introduced as a design of experiment, and the database for RSM was set with the numerical simulation of a drop tube furnace (DTF) to predict the spatial distribution of pollutant concentrations as well as final ones. The distribution of carbon dioxide in DTF was assumed to have Boltzman function, and the resulted function with parameters of a high $R^2$ value facilitates predicting an accurate distribution of $CO_2$. However, CO distribution had a difference near peak concentration when Gaussian function was introduced to simulate the CO distribution. It might be mainly due to the anti-symmetry of the CO concentration in DTF, and hence Extreme function was used to permit the asymmetry. The application of Extreme function enhanced the regression accuracy of parameters and the prediction was in a fairly good agreement with the new experiments. These results promise the wide use of statistical models for the quantitative safety assessment.

This study investigates the seasonal variation and spatial distribution characteristics of pollutant load, as executing the quantity valuation of pollutant load inflowing into Yeong-Il bay from on-land including the Hyeong-san river. Annual total pollutant generating rate from Yeong-Il bay region are 202ton to BOD, 620ton to SS, 42ton to T-N, 16ton to T-P respectively, if expressly point out, pollutant generating rate from the Hyeong-san river is the greatest, which BOD ratio is 78.2%, SS 88.5%, T-N 62.5%, T-P 73.1%. As calculating Tank model with input value of daily precipitation and evaporation of 2001 year in drainage basin of the Hyeong-san river, Estimated result of the annual total river discharge effluencing from this river is $830{\times}106m^3$. As result to estimating annual total effluence rate outflowing at the rivers from each drainage basins, annual total inflow pollutant rate are BOD 10,633ton, SS 19,302ton, T-N 15,369ton, T-P 305ton. The III basin which is population congestion region of the Pohang-city drain away a good many pollutant load than the V basin including the Neang-Chun with wide drainage area. Especially, a great many T-N than T-P inflow into Yeong-Il bay. The accumulation of pollutant load effluenced from on-land will happen on at the inner coast region of Yeong-Il bay, finally we would make a prediction that the water quality will take a bad turn.
This study was conducted to investigate pollutant loading, were quality and plant distribution of 8 streams which are tributaries of the Youngsan River. The nitrate reductase activity (NRA) and nutrient removall capacity of the most frequently occurring aquatic plants on streamside were also determined. As a result, the pollutant loading appeared to be correlated with the area of watershed, while the water quality was related to the land use pattern of each steam. The aquatic plants were distributed differently among the streams; Hydrilla verticillata - Potamogeton crispus, Numphoides peltata - Hydrocharis dubia and Polygonum thunbergii - Phragmites japonica were dominant at the Orye Chon, Jungan Chon, Whangryong River and Jiseok Chon, while potamogeton crispus - Lemma paucicostata, Zizania latifolia - Phragmites communis were dominant at the Youngam Chon and Munpyeong Chon. Persicaria hydropiper and Echinochloa crus-galli var. oryzicola were dominant at Kwangju Chon which was polluted with domestic wastewater. >From the measurement of leaf NRA for dominant species, the highest value of NRA was shown by the Polygonum thunbergii, followed by Oenanthe javanica > Phragmites communis > Zizania latifolia > Lemma paucicostata. The highest nitrogen and phosphorus removal capacity was found in Phragmites communis.
The wind flow and pollutant dispersion over a two-dimensional sinusoidal hilly obstacle with slope (the ratio of height to half width) of 0.7 have been investigated experimentally and numerically. Flow over a single sinusoidal hill model was visualized in a subsonic wind tunnel. The mean velocity profiles, turbulence statistics, and pollutant concentration distribution were measured at the Reynolds number based on the obstacle height (H=40mm) oft $2.6\times10^4$. Experimental results for flow over a flat ground were agreed with the theoretical and numerical results. When a pollutant source is located behind the hilly terrain, the pollutant dispersion appeared even in the upstream region due to recirculation flow.
The characteristics of mild combustion and pollutant emission were investigated computationally with supplied air stream temperature and dilution rate in jet flame. The air was diluted with main combustion products. As dilution rate increased at fixed air temperature, the temperature distribution of burner inside was uniformed and the maximum mole fraction of CO and NO was decreased. In addition, emission indices for NO, CO, and $CO_2$ were compared with air temperature and dilution rate.
