In spite of its many strong points, pole-pole electrode configuration is not often used for ground electrical resistivity survey except for bore hole survey as normal logging and for archaeological investigation. Above all, poor spatial resolution of pole-pole survey may be responsible for this. But recent experiences so far gained by the present authers lead them to think that pole-pole survey can be at least a viable means of reconnaissance survey in near-surface conductive environment and an effective interpretational scheme may augment its resolution. As well known, a response of any other electrode configuration is a linear combination of pole-pole responses. Based on this principle of linear superposition and the principle of reciprocity, the other 'responses' can be derived with simple additions and subtractions of pole-pole responses. Though such responses are not always correct due to the adverse effects of noises, combined with the potential decay curves, they can be helpful to interprete better pole-pole survey data especially in connection of the resolution. This can be comparable to the use of the first or second derivatives of gravity and magnetic intensity surveys.

A method of double-pole construction is developing to strengthen the mechanical intensity of the electric poles. Therefore the mechanical properties of the double-pole were researched in this paper. First, considering field special quality electric poles were established. In the next tensile force was applied and stress distribution and fatigue load were examined. When a base of the pole is concrete, mechanical intensity of the double-pole increased about 1.7 times compared a single pole. In the case of general soil base, the concrete base should be needed to expect the reinforcement effect of the double-pole.

In this paper, a model pole transformer was designed to improve the reliability of pole transformers and its short circuit withstand strength was tested. The failure causes of the pole transformers which had been operated in the field were analyzed and several patterns of the causes were determined. A novel countermeasure was devised to prevent the failures of the pole transformers in advance. A model pole transformer was designed and made in accordance with the given specifications to strengthen the short circuit withstand capability and its characteristic was tested. As a result, the advanced performance of the model pole transformer was confirmed and novel techniques in manufacturing process was suggested. It is considered that all the methods employed in the developing process will be helpful to design and manufacture the pole transformers thus the reliability of pole transformers in distribution lines will be improved.

The pole interaction of the line-commutated converter high-voltage direct current (HVDC) is analyzed, and a practical solution that uses a surge arrester is proposed. Jeju HVDC No. 2 is a double-monopole HVDC link that has a rated power capacity of 2 × 200 MW and was commissioned in 2012. During normal operation, Jeju HVDC No. 2 is operated in the bipolar mode to minimize the loss caused by the dedicated metallic return. However, when one pole of the inverter valve is bypassed, a commutation failure can occur in the other pole. This phenomenon is called pole interaction in this work. This pole interaction interrupts the HVDC power transfer for almost 2 s and may affect the stability of the power system. This research proposes the installation of a surge arrester at the inverter neutral, which can be an effective and practical solution for pole interaction. The HVDC system is analyzed, and the residual voltage of the surge arrester is determined. Detailed simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC demonstrates that the proposed method eliminates the pole interaction of the bipolar-operated HVDC.

A claw pole stepping motor is widely used in various fields such as a compact optical disk drive, computer peripherals, digital cameras, office automation(OA), handheld mobile devices, because it has the suitable structure for compact motor. However 3D analysis is essential for design of Claw pole stepping motor because of axial flux path. Thus, in general, it takes a lot of time in the design of Claw pole motor. In this paper, magnetic equivalent circuit considering axial flux was proposed to reduce design time of Claw pole motor and we has designed by using the magnetic equivalent circuit. In addition, in oder to verify the study, design model was verified by 3D FEM simulation and experiment.

The elimination of a pole sensor is desirable due to the low-cost requirement, the compactness, and the applied drives. This paper proposes the algorithm for the initial pole-position estimation of a surface permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PM-LSM), which is carried out under the closed loop control without a pole sensor and is insensitive to the motor parameters. This algorithm is based on the principle that the initial pole position (IPP) is estimated by the trigonometric function of the two reference currents. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is confirmed by testing a surface PM-LSM with large disturbance, which result shows that IPP is well estimated within a satisfied moving-distance and a shorter estimation taken-time even if large disturbance such as cogging and friction is existed.

This paper presents an application to a multimachine power system of power system stabilizer using revised pole shift adaptive algorithm. Controller parameters are determined by using adaptive control theory in order to maintain optimal operation of generator under the various operating conditions. To determine the optimal parameters of controller and overcome the problem of pole placement algorithm, this paper presents pole shift algorithm revised pole shift factor. Also, the difference between the speed deviation with weighted factor and voltage deviation is used as the input signal of adaptive controller, which provides good damping characteristics. The results tested on a multimachine power system verify that the proposed controller has better dynamic and transient performance than conventional controller.

Many electric poles in the softground have been collapsed due to external load. In this study, 10 types of tests were performed with variation of location, numbers and depths of anchor blocks as well as depth of poles to find stresses acting on concrete electric poles. The stresses of concrete poles are relaxed at 600~700[kg] of tensile load, and stresses are concentrated at top of pole, and spread to lower part of pole. In the concrete pole collapse test, tensile load at failure was approximately 1,400[kg], which is twice of design load. As passive zone in the soil increases, the stresses acting on concrete pole are concentrated at lower part of pole based on moment arm earth pressure distribution.

Bearingless SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) is researched for high speed or special applications which can not use mechanical bearing such as bio pump. In this paper, a novel hybrid pole bearingless SRM is presented. The proposed hybrid pole bearingless SRM has salient poles for torque and suspending force production. Motor torque is controlled by the phase currents in torque pole windings, and the suspending force is controlled by suspending currents in four suspending windings for radial direction suspension. Because the proposed bearingless SRM has divided pole structure, mutual effects between torque current and suspending current are very lower than the conventional one's. From this structure, the number of power devices for power converter can be reduced for bearingless SRM driving. The proposed hybrid pole bearing less SRM is verified by the FEM analysis and experimental results.

Salient pole rotor type single phase switched reluctance motor is of simple and rigid structure, short shaft and simple driving circuit. Especially, the output power per unit volume of salient pole rotor structure is comparatively high because the magnetic fluxes of axial and radial direction are simultaneously used. Therefore, this motor will be used at small space and difficult maintenance situations. In this paper, the selecting method of proper pole arc, stator, and rotor dimension of salient pole rotor type single phase SRM is proposed.
