  • Abstract In a conventional digital sector scan system in the ultrasound medical imaging, the sampling space is in the polar coordinates while the display space is in the cartesian coordinates, which necessitates a coordinate transformation process resultion process resulting the overall system very complex and bulky. In this paper we propose a new architecture of the Digital-Scan-Converter (DSC) for the ultrasound sector scan system in which sampling space is the same as the display space, so the data are displayed as they are acquired without any interpola- tion process required. To implement the above real time DSC. two frequency synthesizes with very high switching time and a low-pass filter are required. The former determines the precise location of the data points and the latter fills the gap betw- een pixels in the horizontal direction.

  • As the spatial resolution of remote sensing satellites becomes higher, very accurate determination of the position of a LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellite is demanding more than ever. Non-symmetric Earth gravity is the major perturbation force to LEO satellites. Since the orbit propagation is performed in the celestial frame while Earth gravity is defined in the terrestrial frame, it is required to convert the coordinates of the satellite from one to the other accurately. Unless the coordinate conversion between the two frames is performed accurately the orbit propagation calculates incorrect Earth gravitational force at a specific time instant, and hence, causes errors in orbit prediction. The coordinate conversion between the two frames involves precession, nutation, Earth rotation and polar motion. Among these factors, unpredictability and uncertainty of Earth rotation, called UTI-UTC, is the largest error source. In this paper, the effect of UTI-UTC on the accuracy of the LEO propagation is introduced, tested and analzed. Considering the maximum unpredictability of UTI-UTC, 0.9 seconds, the meaningful order of non-spherical Earth harmonic functions is derived.

  • The N-terminal domain of the Pseudomonas sp. FB15 phytase increases low-temperature activity and catalytic efficiency. In this study, the 3D structure of the N-terminal domain was predicted and substitutions for the amino acid residues of the region assumed to be the active site were made. The activity of mutants, in which alanine (A) was substituted for the original residue, was investigated at various temperatures and pH values. Significant differences in enzymatic activity were observed only in mutant E263A, suggesting that the amino acid residue at position 263 of the N-terminal domain is important in enzyme activity.

  • We used a three-dimensional motion capture method to measure the grasping reach of Korean. This method was applied well to the grasping reach measurement with low measurement error and high efficiency. We measured the grasping reach of 29 males and 21 females at the different height from seat reference level; -10, 0, 30, 60, and 90cm. The grasping reach data were summarized at each 15 .deg. in polar corrdinates to compare with the former researches. If the number of subjects increases in the supplement research, the grasping reach data will be used in the ergonomic design of the driver's cabin or workstations in industry.

  • Novel 5'-norcarbocyclic adenine and guanine phosphonic acid analogues with 6'-electronegative moiety such as unsaturated C-C bond were designed and synthesized from commercially available 2-methylene-propane-1,3-diol (4). Regioselective Mitsunobu reaction successfully proceeded from an allylic functional group (${\pm}$)-12b at low reaction temperature in polar cosolvent (DMF/1,4-dioxane) to give purine phosphonate analogues (${\pm}$)-13 and (${\pm}$)-20. The purine nucleoside phosphonate and phosphonic acid analogues were subjected to antiviral screening against HIV-1. Guanine analogue (${\pm}$)-23 shows significant anti-HIV activity in PBM cell lines ($EC_{50}=8.1\;{\mu}M$).

  • Integral equations of self-radiation impedance of a rectangular piston in a rigid infinite baffle are derived using by polar coordinate. The self-radiation impedance is separated by two parts ; self-radiation resistance and self-radiation reactance. Derived integral equations are simulated by numerical method. Based on the numerical results, self-radiation impedance can be obtained in the low and high frequency ranges without any limited conditions.

  • In this paper, the communication performance and its characteristics of the polar Low Earth Orbit(LEO) mobile satellite have been described in terms of the generalized performance parameters via geometric modeling and analysis. Especially, the general formula related to the parameters such as the number of orbits(M) and the number of satellites per orbit(N) were derived in the LEO satellite system for voice service, and then we applied the general result to IRIDIUM system(M=6, N=11) that would be scheduled to commercialize soon. The offered traffic of Inter Satellite Link(ISL), ISL link blocking probability as well as both new call blocking probability and the probability of forced termination for the on going call are calculated as the result of performance analysis.

  • The effect of ginseng glycosides and their aglycones on the thermodynamic characteristics of membranes from dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) was investigated. Total saponins (TS) from Korean red ginseng, Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer, interacted with the Eel Phase of lipid in the Polar region and did not penetrate the deeper glycerol backbone of lipid molecule. From the all investigated components of TS (aglycons and ginsenosides), only 20-(S)-panaxadiol (PD) had an effect similar to TS. High concentration of TS penetrated in hydrophobic Cl-C8 region. The presence of cholesterol did not influence the interaction of TS with DPPC. An elimination of transition, however, took place at 10~100 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml of TS. DPPC had a low ability to interact with cholesterol (CHL) as compared with other lecithins except ethanolamine. From our results, only TS and PD, at high concentrations (100 mol%), influenced the phase transition of mixture of DPPC:CHL.
