  • The failure rate functions between successive failures are of concatenated form. We allow the parameters of failure rate function change after a certain failure and its fixing. We confine out attention to a model wherein the interfailure times are described by its failure rate function. We suggest an adaptive failure rate function with a change-point under the assumption that interfailure times are record value statistics from a Weibull distribution. The proposed model will be applied through a practical example of software failure data.

  • In the theory of retrial queues it is usually assumed that the flow of primary customers is Poisson. This means that the number of independent sources, or potential customers, is infinite and each of them generates primary arrivals very seldom. We consider now retrial queueing systems with a homogeneous population, that is, we assume that a finite number K of identical sources generates the so called quasi-random input. We present a survey of the main results and mathematical tools for finite source retrial queues, concentrating on M/G/1//K and M/M/c//K systems with repeated attempts.

  • There is a new trend of incorporating software coverage metrics into software reliability modelling. This paper proposes a coverage-based software reliability growth model. Firstly, the failure rate function in coverage is analytically derived. Then it is shown that the number of detected faults follows a Nonhomogeneous Poisson distribution of which intensity function is the failure rate function in coverage. Practical applicability of the proposed models is examined by illustrative numerical examples.

  • Estimation of the edge of a distribution has many important applications. It is related to classification, cluster analysis, neural network, and statistical image recovering. The problem also arises in measuring production efficiency in economic systems. Three most promising nonparametric estimators in the existing literature are introduced. Their statistical properties are provided, some of which are new. Themes of future study are also discussed.

  • The new concept of dry area formation based on Poisson distribution of active nucleation sites and the concept of the critical active site density is presented. A simple statistical model is developed to predict the change of slope of the boiling curve up to critical heat flux (CHF) quantitatively. The predictions by the present model are in good agreement with the experimental data. Also it turns out that the present model well explains the mechanism on how the surface wettability influences CHF.

  • In this paper, we suggest a simple computational algorithm to obtain the queue length distribution in the finite queue, where the input process consists of several homogeneous two-state Markov modulated Poisson processes. With comparison to the conventional algorithm, is more practical, in particular, when a large number of input sources are loaded to the system.

  • A model for a system whose deteriorating rate depends on the state is introduced. A repairman arrives according to Poisson process and increases the state of the system by the random amount if the state is below a threshold. If the system fails at arrival of the repairman it is assumed that the system is replaced by new one. The stationary distribution function of the state of the system and the expected life length of the system are deduced.

  • In this paper, partially repairable concurrent spare parts requirement determination problem of newly procured equipment systems is considered. “partially repairable” means that a portion of damaged parts can be recover their function and reused after repairs. A mathematical model is derived for making an CSP requirement determination subject to the constraint of satisfying any given operational availability limitation. We assume that the failure of a part follows a Poisson process and the repair time has an exponential distribution. Using the generalized Lagrange multipliers method, the solution procedure is derived.

And we also predict a maximum trunk capacity in the DTCP with respect to scanning period based on the call attempt characteristics which has the Poisson distribution.
