Earthwork automation has emerged as a promising technology in the construction industry, and the application of earthwork automation technology is starting from the acquisition and processing of point cloud data of the site. Point cloud data has more than a million data due to vast extent of the construction site, and the processing time of the original point cloud data is critical because it takes tens or hundreds of hours to generate a Digital Terrain Model (DTM), and enhancement of the processing time can largely impact on the efficiency of the modeling. Currently, a benchmark program (BP) is actively used for the purpose of both point cloud data processing and BIM design as an integrated program in Korea, however, there are some aspects to be modified and refined. This study modified the BP, and developed an updated program by adopting a compile-based development environment, newly designed UI/UX, and OpenGL while maintaining existing PCD processing functions, and expended compatibility of the PCD file formats. We conducted a comparative test in terms of loading speed with different number of point cloud data, and the results showed that 92 to 99% performance increase was found in the developed program. This program can be used as a foundation for the development of a program that reduces the gap between design and construction by integrating PCD and earthwork BIM functions in the future.
Precision positioning is necessary for various use of high-resolution UAV images. Basically, GCP is used for this purpose, but in case of emergency situations or difficulty in selecting GCPs, the data shall be obtained without GCPs. This study proposed a method of improving positional accuracy for x, y coordinate of UAV based 3 dimensional point cloud data generated without GCPs. Road vector file by the public data (Open Data Portal) was used as reference data for improving location accuracy. The geometric correction of the 2 dimensional ortho-mosaic image was first performed and the transform matrix produced in this process was adopted to apply to the 3 dimensional point cloud data. The straight distance difference of 34.54 m before the correction was reduced to 1.21 m after the correction. By confirming that it is possible to improve the location accuracy of UAV images acquired without GCPs, it is expected to expand the scope of use of 3 dimensional spatial objects generated from point cloud by enabling connection and compatibility with other spatial information data.

3D Geo-spatial information models have been widely used in the field of Civil Engineering, Medical, Computer Graphics, Urban Management and many other. Especially, in surveying and geo-spatial field, the demand for high quality 3D geospatial information and indoor spatial information is so highly increasing. However, it is so difficult to provide a low-cost and high efficiency service to the field which demand the highest quality of 3D model, because pre-constructed spatial data are composed of different formats and storage structures according to the application purpose of each institutes. In fact, the techniques to construct a high applicable 3D geo-spatial model is very expensive to collect and analyze geo-spatial data, but most demanders of 3D geo-spatial model never want to pay the high-cost to that. This study, therefore, suggest the effective way to construct 3D geo-spatial model with low-cost of construction. In general, the effective way to reduce the cost of constructing 3D geo-spatial model as presented in previous studies is to combine the raw data obtained from point cloud observatory and UAV imagery, however this method has some limitation of usage from difficulties to approve the use of raw data because of those have been managed separately by various institutes. To solve this problem, we developed the linking & management system for unifying a high-Resolution raw geo-spatial data based on the point cloud DB and apply this system to extract the basic database from 3D geo-spatial mode for the road database registration. As a result of this study, it can be provided six contents of main entries for road registration by applying the developed system based on the point cloud DB.

Mobile operators are considering a variety of technical measures to cope with the explosion of data while reducing TCO(Total Cost of Ownership) of their networks. In this paper, to investigate the possibility about one of such technical measures, system level simulation to evaluate the performance of the capacity and mobility was performed in cloud base station structure to apply coordinated multi-point transmission and reception. As a result, we find out that system capacity and mobility performance may be improved according to the scale and application area of cloud base station with the operation of coordinated multi-point transmission and reception, and these mutual causality can provide practical guidelines to mobile network's operation.

Research on object detection algorithms using 2D data has already progressed to the level of commercialization and is being applied to various manufacturing industries. Object detection technology using 2D data has an effective advantage, there are technical limitations to accurate data generation and analysis. Since 2D data is two-axis data without a sense of depth, ambiguity arises when approached from a practical point of view. Advanced countries such as the United States are leading 3D data collection and research using 3D laser scanners. Existing processing and detection algorithms such as ICP and RANSAC show high accuracy, but are used as a processing speed problem in the processing of large-scale point cloud data. In this study, PointNet a representative technique for detecting objects using widely used 3D point cloud data is analyzed and described. And RandLA-Net, which overcomes the limitations of PointNet's performance and object prediction accuracy, is described a review of detection technology using point cloud data was conducted.
The point-cloud representation of an object is performed by scanning a space through a laser scanner that is extracting a set of points, and the points are then integrated into the same coordinate system through a registration. The set of the completed registration-integrated point clouds is classified into meaningful regions, shapes, and noises through a mathematical analysis. In this paper, the aim is the matching of a curved area like a cylinder shape in 3D point-cloud data. The matching procedure is the attainment of the center and radius data through the extraction of the cylinder-shape candidates from the sphere that is fitted through the RANdom Sample Consensus (RANSAC) in the point cloud, and completion requires the matching of the curved region with the Catmull-Rom spline from the extracted center-point data using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Not only is the proposed method expected to derive a fast estimation result via linear and curved cylinder estimations after a center-axis estimation without constraint and segmentation, but it should also increase the work efficiency of reverse engineering.

Recently, the size of point cloud is increasing rapidly with the high advancement of 3D terrestrial laser scanners. The study aimed for improving a file-referring octree, introduced in the preceding study, which had been intended to generate an octree and to query points from a large point cloud, gathered by 3D terrestrial laser scanners. To the end, every leaf node of the octree was designed to store only one file-pointer of its first point. Also, the point cloud file was re-constructed to store points sequentially, which belongs to a same leaf node. An octree was generated from a point cloud, composed of about 300 million points, while time was measured during querying proximate points within a given distance with series of points. Consequently, the present method performed better than the preceding one from every aspect of generating, storing and restoring octree, so as querying points and memorizing usage. In fact, the query speed increased by 2 times, and the memory efficiency by 4 times. Therefore, this method has explicitly improved from the preceding one. It also can be concluded in that an octree can be generated, as points can be queried from a huge point cloud, of which larger than the main memory.
In recent years, in the fields of smart cities and digital twins, research on model generation is increasing due to the advantage of acquiring actual 3D coordinates by using point clouds. In addition, there is an increasing demand for a solid model that can easily modify the shape and texture of the building. In this paper, we propose a method to create a clustered solid building model based on point cloud data. The proposed method consists of five steps. Accordingly, in this paper, we propose a method to create a clustered solid building model based on point cloud data. The proposed method consists of five steps. In the first step, the ground points were removed through the planarity analysis of the point cloud. In the second step, building area was extracted from the ground removed point cloud. In the third step, detailed structural area of the buildings was extracted. In the fourth step, the shape of 3D building models with 3D coordinate information added to the extracted area was created. In the last step, a 3D building solid model was created by giving texture to the building model shape. In order to verify the proposed method, we experimented using point clouds extracted from unmanned aerial vehicle images using commercial software. As a result, 3D building shapes with a position error of about 1m compared to the point cloud was created for all buildings with a certain height or higher. In addition, it was confirmed that 3D models on which texturing was performed having a resolution of less than twice the resolution of the original image was generated.

In this paper, a method of constructing a rectangular net from unorganized point cloud data is presented. In the method an implicit surface that fits the given point data is generated by using principal component analysis(PCA) and adaptive domain decomposition method(ADDM). Then a complete and quality rectangular net can be obtained by extracting voxel data from the implicit surface and projecting exterior faces of extracted voxels onto the implicit surface. The main advantage of the proposed method is that a quality rectangular net can be extracted from randomly scattered 3D points only without any further information. Furthermore the results of this works can be used to obtain many useful information including a slicing data, a solid STL model and a NURBS surface model in many areas involved in treatment of large amount of point data by proper processing of implicit surface and rectangular net generated previously.

The construction quality control of hull blocks is of great significance for shipbuilding. The total station device is predominantly employed in traditional applications, but suffers from long measurement time, high labor intensity and scarcity of data points. In this paper, the Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) device is utilized to obtain an efficient and accurate comprehensive construction information of hull blocks. To address the registration problem which is the most important issue in comparing the measurement point cloud and the design model, an automatic registration approach is presented. Furthermore, to compare the data acquired by TLS device and sparse point sets obtained by total station device, a method for key point extraction is introduced. Experimental results indicate that the proposed approach is fast and accurate, and that applying TLS to control the construction quality of hull blocks is reliable and feasible.
