  • Computational and experimental dosimetry of Henschke applicator with respect to high dose rate brachytherapy using the MIRD phantom and a remote control afterloader were performed. A comparison of computational dosimetry was made between the simulated Monte Carlo dosimetry and GAMMADOT brachytherapy Planning system's dosimetry. Dose measurements was performed using ion chamber in a water phantom. Dose rates are calculated using Monte Carlo code MCNP4B and the GAMMADOT. Thecomputational models include the detailed geometry of Ir-192 source, tandem tube, and shielded ovoids for accurate estimation. And transit dose delivered during source extension to and retraction from a given dwell position was estimated by Monte Carlo simulations. Point doses at ICRU bladder/rectal pointswhich have been recommened by ICRU 38 was assessed. Calculated and measured dose distribution data agreed within 4% each other. The shielding effect of ovoids leads to 19% and 20% dose reduction at bladder surface and rectal points.

  • In order to improve the vertical position accuracy, the advantages of GPS and barometric altimeter are combined and used, but in order to fuse the two sensors, the geoid altitude must be compensated. In this paper, we proposed a technique that can calculate geoid altitude in real time even in low-cost embedded systems applied to drones or autonomous vehicles. Since the reference EGM08 is determined by a polynomial of the 2160th order, real-time calculation is impossible in the embedded system. Therefore, by introducing a linear interpolation technique, the amount of calculation was increased, and the storage space was saved by 75% by using the integer geoid height as a grid point. The accuracy of the proposed technique was evaluated through simulation, and it was confirmed that the accuracy of the maximum error is -1.215 m even in the region where the geoid change is rapid.

  • It is well known that GPS cannot provide positioning results if sufficient number of visible satellites are not available. To overcome this weak point, attentions have been recently moved to hybrid positioning methods that augments GPS with other sensors. As an extension of hybrid positiong methods, this paper proposes a new method that combines GPS and vision sensor to improve availability and accuracy of land vehicle positioning. The proposed method does not require any external map information and can provide position solutions if more than 2 navigation satellites are visible. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, an experiment result with real measurements is provided and a result shows that accumulated error of n-axis is almost 2.5meters and that of e-axis is almost 3meters in test section.

  • Objective: To investigate the effects of the long-term use of a maxillary protraction facemask with miniplate (FM-MP) on pharyngeal airway dimensions in growing patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP). Methods: The study included 24 boys with CLP (mean age, 12.2 years; mean duration of FM-MP therapy, 4.9 years), divided into two groups according to the amount of A point advancement to the vertical reference plane (VRP): Group 1, > 4 mm; Group 2, < 2 mm; n = 12/group. After evaluating the skeletodental and airway variables using lateral cephalograms acquired before and after FM-MP therapy, statistical analyses were performed. Results: Group 1 showed greater forward and downward displacements of the posterior maxilla (posterior nasal spine [PNS]-horizontal reference plane [HRP]; PNS-VRP), greater increase in ANB, more forward tongue position (tongue tip-Pt vertical line to Frankfort horizontal plane), and greater increase in the oropharynx (superior posterior airway space [SPAS]; middle airway space [MAS]) and upper nasopharynx (PNS-adenoid2) than did Group 2. While maxillary advancement (A-VRP and PNS-VRP) correlated with increases in SPAS, MAS, and PNS-adenoid2, downward displacement of the PNS (PNS-HRP) correlated with increases in SPAS, MAS, PNS-adenoid1, and PNS-adenoid2, and with a decrease in vertical airway length (VAL). Mandibular forward displacement and decrease in mandibular plane correlated with increases in MAS. Conclusions: FM-MP therapy had positive effects on the oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airway spaces without increases in VAL in Group 1 rather than in Group 2. However, further validation using an untreated control group is necessary.

  • This study aims to provide a scientific basis for the abstract beauty of dance by analyzing the effects of controlling the breath during the walking motion of Korean dance. The objective of the study is to determine the significance of breathing during Korean dance, as it is externally expressed and technologically segmented, let alone the internal beauty of Korean dance. The results of this study show that the position of the body center and ASIS during the walking motion that uses breath was lower than that of the walking motion that does not use the breath. In addition, in each replacement of the knee joint and ankle joint, a narrow angle, in which bending is used a lot, appeared during the walking motion that uses the breath, but not during the walking gesture that does not use the breath. This occurred during the bending motion. In the first peak point, the vertical ground reaction force during the walking motion that uses the breath was higher than that during the walking motion that does not use the breath.

  • Automation of observation and positioning of fiducial marks is made possible with the application of image matching technique, developed through the cooperative research effort of computer vision and digital photogrammetry. The major problem in such automation effort is to minimize the computing time and to increase the positional accuracy. Except for scanning and ground control surveying, the interior orientation process was automated in this study, through the development of an algorithm which applies the image matching and image processing techniques. The developed system was applied to close-range photogrammetry and the analysis of the results showed 54% improvement in processing time. For fiducial mark observation during interior orientation, the Laplacian of Gaussian transformation and the Hough transformation were applied to determine the accurate position of the center point, and the correlation matching and the least squares matching method were then applied to improve the accuracy of automated observation of fiducial marks. Image pyramid concept was applied to reduce the computing time of automated positioning of fiducial mark.

  • The purpose of this study was firstly to investigate correctional function of custom semi-rigid foot orthotics for excessively pronated people during gait by observing comfort, navicular movement and leg muscles' activity according to short-term and mid-term wearing duration and secondly to understand positive and/or negative point of view of a recently proposed paradigm related to foot orthotics more profoundly. Sixteen subjects who showed excessive pronation at navicular drop test were recruited for this study. Custom semi-rigid foot orthotics were made fitting for foot characteristics of the subjects by podiatry division of Otto Bock Korea company. While wearing the foot orthotics for two months, comfort of wearing were questioned and vertical navicular movement and electromyography of leg muscles during gait were measured at the condition of both immediately after and 2 months after including a control condition, respectively. The subjects were required to walk on a treadmill at the speed of 1.5m/s and four digital video camera filmed the movement of navicular process at the speed of 60 frames/s. In conclusion, in excessively pronated group continuous increase of comfort from short-term to mid-term wearing of custom foot orthotics is assumed to be closely related with short-term and mid term correctional action, of which are consisted the decrease of the range of navicular drop and navicular raisins- the faster timing of minimum navicular position occurring, and the decrease of leg muscles' activities. This conclusion could lead to positively accept new paradigm related to foot orthotics suggested by Nigg and the author suggest that in the future study the variable which could observe navicular movement would be one of major variables to study preferred path of skeleton in the paradigm.

  • IGRINS, the Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrometer, is a near-infrared wide-band high-resolution spectrograph jointly developed by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and the University of Texas at Austin. IGRINS employs three HAWAII-2RG focal plane array (FPA) detectors. The mechanical mounts for these detectors serves a critical function in the overall instrument design: Optically, they permit the only positional compensation in the otherwise "build to print" design. Thermally, they permit setting and control of the detector operating temperature independently of the cryostat bench. We present the design and fabrication of the mechanical mount as a single module. The detector mount includes the array housing, a housing for the SIDECAR ASIC, a field flattener lens holder, and a support base. The detector and ASIC housing will be kept at 65 K and the support base at 130 K. G10 supports thermally isolate the detector and ASIC housing from the support base. The field flattening lens holder attaches directly to the FPA array housing and holds the lens with a six-point kinematic mount. Fine adjustment features permit changes in axial position and in yaw and pitch angles. We optimized the structural stability and thermal characteristics of the mount design using computer-aided 3D modeling and finite element analysis. Based on the computer simulation, the designed detector mount meets the optical and thermal requirements very well.
