In this paper we formulate an optimization based approach to determining the maximally inscribed rectangle in a robots workspace. The size and location of the maximally inscribed rectangle is an effective index for evaluating the size and quality of a robots workspace. Such information is useful for, e. g., optimal worktable placement, and the placement of cooperating robots. For general robot workspaces we show how the problem can be formulated as a constrained nonlinear optimization problem possessing a special structure, to which standard numerical algorithms can be applied. Key to the rapid convergence of these algorithms is the choice of a starting point; in this paper we develop an efficient computational geometric algorithm for rapidly obtaining an approximate solution suitable as an initial starting point. We also develop an improved version of the algorithm of Haug et al. for calculating a robots workspace boundary.
We consider an interpolation problem with nonuniform rational B-spline curves given ordered data points. The existing approaches assume that weight for each point is available. But, it is not the case in practical applications. Schneider suggested a method which interpolates data points by automatically determining the weight of each control point. However, a drawback of Schneiders approach is that there is no guarantee of avoiding undesired poles; avoiding negative weights. Based on a quadratic programming technique, we use the weights of the control points for interpolating additional data. The weights are restricted to appropriate intervals; this guarantees the regularity of the interpolating curve. In a addition, a knot placement is proposed for pleasing interpolation. In comparison with integral B-spline interpolation, the proposed scheme leads to B-spline curves with fewer control points.
The present paper presents an optimal capacitor placement (OCP) algorithm for voltagestability enhancement. The OCP issue is represented using a mixed-integer problem and a highly nonlinear problem. The hybrid particle swarm optimization (HPSO) algorithm is proposed to solve the OCP problem. The HPSO algorithm combines the optimal power flow (OPF) with the primal-dual interior-point method (PDIPM) and ordinary PSO. It takes advantage of the global search ability of PSO and the very fast simulation running time of the OPF algorithm with PDIPM. In addition, OPF gives intelligence to PSO through the information provided by the dual variable of the OPF. Numerical results illustrate that the HPSO algorithm can improve the accuracy and reduce the simulation running time. Test results evaluated with the three-bus, New England 39-bus, and Korea Electric Power Corporation systems show the applicability of the proposed algorithm.

FACTS devices, such as the Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) and Static Var Compensators (SVC), can help increase system load margin to improve static voltage stability. In power systems, because of the high cost and the effect value, the optimal placement for FACTS devices must be determined. This paper investigates the use of the series device (SVC) and the parallel device (TCSC) from the point of load margin to increase voltage stability. It considers the sensitivity of load margin to the line reactance and eigenvector of the collapse. The study has been carried out on the IEEE 14 Bus Test System to verify the validity and efficiency of the method. It reveals that incorporation of FACTS devices significantly enhance load margin as well as system stability.

In this paper the PID-B self-tuner[1] is extended to allow a less abrupt response to set point or plant parameter changes and to control a nonminimum phase plant. The proposed extended PID/ST derived from the direct pole-placement PID/ST is obtained with the Bezout identity as the underlying design method. And its control gains are normalized by the integral control gain. Although the integral control gain is normalized to 1 in our scheme, the so-called "set point and derivative kick" can be avoided sufficiently by normalizing the measurement vector and set point.

Purpose: In many cases, the erroneous placement of a dental implant brings about undesirable results. Here, the effect of dental implant placement on the success of the final prosthesis was evaluated from the point of view of the prosthodontist. Materials and Methods: All surgical operations were performed by the same oral surgeon with the same surgical protocol and all prosthodontic procedures were performed by the same prosthodontist. The problems faced by the prosthodontist, their causes, and their effect on prosthesis success were identified. The success of the final prostheses was evaluated by the same prosthodontist. Results: Only 53% (238 implants in 105 patients) of dental implants were not associated with prosthodontic problems. Multiple implant placement (more than three implants) was associated more frequently with prosthodontic problems. Conclusions: The data indicate that the satisfactory construction of a prosthesis is highly dependent on the placement of the dental implant in the best possible position. It is strongly recommended that the oral surgeon and the prosthodontist engage in pre-operative discussions to establish a top-down treatment plan, as this will improve implant placement and ultimately the success of the prosthesis.
Virtual Advertising and Product Placement which had been brought up to strengthen the competitiveness of the contents and vitalize the Advertising Industry, especially broadcasting advertising were finally adopted. This is a study to review what the background and the current condition of the virtual advertising and product placement are, identify what their current and potential problems are, and discuss how to settle the issues and make improvements. It also presents an empirical study on audience awareness. As a result of the study, audience tends to show high awareness of virtual advertising and product placement, to accept them more positively and show higher reliability of them than any other advertising. Moreover, it appears that they pay more attention to them, express their favor on them, and regard them convincing. This is an important point to both academic field and industry, which is likely to give suggestions to establish policy for virtual advertising and product placement and to develop broadcasting advertising in the future.
This paper presents the optimal point for measuring harmonic levels in distribution systems. Harmonic should be measure PCC (Point of Common Coupling), where is extended over distribution systems, but some PCCs are limited for economical and technical reason : for this reason, the harmonic measurement for a real distribution system and computer simulation are performed to find the optimal PCC in this paper.
Objective : An adjustable Ghajar guide is presented to improve the accuracy of the original Ghajar guide technique. The accuracy of the adjustable Ghajar guide technique is also investigated. Methods : The coronal adjustment angle from the orthogonal catheter trajectory at Kocher's point is determined based on coronal head images using an electronic picture archiving and communication system. For the adjustable Ghajar guide, a protractor is mounted on a C-shaped basal plate that is placed in contact with the margin of a burrhole, keeping the central $0^{\circ}$ line of the protractor orthogonal to the calvarial surface. A catheter guide, which is moved along the protractor and fixed at the pre-determined adjustment angle, is then used to guide the ventricular catheter into the frontal horn adjacent to the foramen of Monro. The adjustable Ghajar guide technique was applied to 20 patients, while a freehand technique based on the surface anatomy of the head was applied to another 47 patients. The accuracy of the ventricular catheter placement was then evaluated using postoperative computed tomography scans. Results : For the adjustable Ghajar guide technique (AGT) patients, the bicaudate index ranged from 0.23 to 0.33 ($mean{\pm}standard$ deviation [SD] : $0.27{\pm}0.03$) and the adjustment angle ranged from $0^{\circ}$ to $10^{\circ}$ ($mean{\pm}SD:5.2^{\circ}{\pm}3.2^{\circ}$). All the AGT patients experienced successful cerebrospinal fluid diversion with only one pass of the catheter. Optimal placement of the ventricular catheter in the ipsilateral frontal horn approximating the foramen of Monro (grade 1) was achieved in 19 patients (95.0%), while a suboptimal trajectory into a lateral corner of the frontal horn passing along a lateral wall of the frontal horn (grade 3) occurred in 1 patient (5.0%). Thus, the AGT patients experienced a significantly higher incidence of optimal catheter placement than the freehand catheterized patients (95.0% vs. 68.3%, p=0.024). Moreover, none of the AGT patients experienced any tract hemorrhages along the catheter or procedure-related complications. Conclusion : The proposed adjustable Ghajar guide technique, using angular adjustment in the coronal plane from the orthogonal trajectory at Kocher's point, facilitates accurate freehand placement of a ventricular catheter for hydrocephalic patients.

For way-point tracking of an autonomous underwater vehicle, a state feedback controller was designed by using pole placement scheme in discrete time domain. In the controller, 4 state variables were used for regulating the depth of the vehicle in z direction, and 3 state variables, for steering the vehicle in xy plane. Assuming constant speed of AUV, we simplified the design of the way-point tracking system. The proposed controller was simulated by MATLAB/Simulink using 6 degree-of-freedom nonlinear model and its performance of way point tracking was shown to be fulfilled within 1 m, nevertheless the proposed controller is quite simple and easy to implement compared to sliding mode controller.
