  • The pneumatic/nydraulic brake system is recently apply to the AGT system such merit as installation is convenient and brake force is strong or than pneumatic brake system. The pneumatic/ hydraulic brake system consist of brake operating unit, electronic control unit, air compressor and pneumatic/hydraulic tranducer. The components of it are controlled and designed to perform the function of brake system. Therefore, This paper design and the pnuematic/hydraulic brake system and propose the derection of development for AGT system.

  • This paper presents an anti-lock braking system for commercial vehicles with pneumatic brake system by using slip ratio. By virtue of system reliability, most commercial vehicles adopt pneumatic brake system. However, pneumatic brake systems control is more difficult than hydraulic systems due to a longer time delay and the system nonlinearity. One of the major factors in generating braking forces is the wheel slip ratio. Accordingly, the proposed ABS strategy employs the slip ratio threshold-based valve on/off control. This threshold-based algorithm is simple but effective to control the pneumatic brake systems. The control performance of the proposed algorithm has been validated via simulation studies using MATLAB/Simulink and Trucksim. The results show ABS by using slip ratio reduces the braking distance and improves vehicle control.

  • Exhaust brake system for Diesel engines is composed of gate valve, pneumatic cylinder and exhaust brake valve with on-off solenoid. Exhaust brake valve which is core component of exhaust brake system should have characteristics such as high reliability and long life. In this paper. exhaust brake valve with on-off solenoid which is used for vehicle brake system was studied. For the performance evaluation of on-off solenoid, electromagnetic characteristics and dynamic characteristics are analyzed. As a basic study for the performance improvement of exhaust brake system, pneumatic circuit and pneumatic valve with on-off solenoid were suggested and the performance of the pneumatic valve was evaluated through tests.

  • Experimental study has been conducted to clarify the pneumatic characteristics of brake system for freight train and enhance the performance of diaphragm valve. Empty-load and diaphragm valves are installed in pneumatic brake system for freight trains of KNR (Korean National Railroad). Experiments are conducted by using freight train and diesel locomotive in operation. From the experimental results. new quick release valve shortens release time after brake application. In case of normal brake application, the release time is shortened to 34% of the original diaphragm valve. Reducing the release time of pneumatic brake system will be helpful to assure brake-release application and save maintenance efforts like wheel grinding.

  • The Maglev(UTM-02) project is leading by Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials and financially supported from the ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy. The early development stagy of Maglev(UTM-02) was adopted the general urban railway pneumatic brake system due to the Korea domestic industrial environment. Currently there is two commercial operation Light Railway Train(LRT) system in Korea. One is U-Line in Uijungbu, and the other is Everline in Yongin. Both LRT systems are adopting high performance light weight hydraulic brake system. But those design and manufacturing core technology of the brake system is came from a major brake system companies located from aboard. Currently various studies have been continued to increase practical application and to improve competitiveness on performance for each sub-system of Maglev. Also in case of brake system, developing competitive hydraulic brake system is required. In this study, we have introduced the development process and performance evaluation of the new hydraulic brake system of Maglev.

  • The goal of this paper is to improve the position control performance of pneumatic rotary actuator with variable brake using Magneto-Rheological Fluid. The air compressibility and the lack of damping of the pneumatic actuator bring the dynamic delay of the pressure response and cause the oscillatory motion. In this study, a variable rotary brake comprising Magneto-Rheological Fluid is equipped to the joint of a pneumatic manipulator. Experiments of step response have proved that the transient response of the manipulator could be improved compared with that of the conventional control algorithm by using a phase plane switching control algorithm.

  • An exhaust brake system is composed of a gate valve, a pneumatic cylinder and an on-off solenoid valve. An on-off solenoid valve which is a key component of the exhaust brake system ought to have characteristics such as high reliability and long life for reducing the foot brake and tires damage, and for driver's fatigue relief of middle/large size vehicles running a long distance. In this paper, an on-off solenoid valve which is used for vehicle brake system was studied. For the performance evaluation of the on-off solenoid, electromagnetic characteristics and dynamic characteristics are analyzed. On the basic study for the performance improvement of exhaust brake system, pneumatic circuit and pneumatic valve of on-off solenoid type were suggested and the performance of pneumatic valve through the test procedure was evaluated.
