Many countries are concentrating on the development of electric vehicle technology with increasing concerns about the global environment. Along with these concerns, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles(PHEVs) are being developed as environment-friendly cars which reduce greenhouse gas emissions and also eliminate the problem of range anxiety associated to all-electric vehicles, because the combustion engine works as a backup when the batteries are depleted. In this paper, electric equipments of the PHEV which meet the target specifications were developed, and their performance was proven through confirmatory testing on the PHEV at Korea Automotive Technology Institute(KATECH).

For OBC (On-Board Charger) and LDC (Low DC-DC Converter) used as essential power conversion systems of PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), system performance is required as well as reliability, which is need to protect the vehicle and driver from various faults. While current development processor is sufficient for embodying functions and verifying performance in normal state during development of prototypes for OBC and LDC, there is no clear method of verification for various fault situations that occur in abnormal state and for securing stability of vehicle base, unless verification is performed by mounting on an actual vehicle. In this paper, a CCM (Charger Converter Module) was developed as an integrated structure of OBC and LDC. In addition, diverse fault situations that can occur in vehicles are simulated by a simulator to artificially inject into power conversion system and to test whether it operates properly. Also, HILS (Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation) is carried out to verify whether LDC is operated properly under power environment of an actual vehicle.

This paper proposes the process for evaluating the impact of charging the PHEV(Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle) on the distribution systems, and analyzes the study results employing the actual systems as the PHEV is highly expected to increase in the automobile industries in North America in the near future. Since the charging load of the PHEV directly connected to the distribution systems would consume electric power much more than any other existing electric product of residential customers, the new modeling and process would be required to consider the PHEV in distribution systems planning. The EPRI(Electric Power Research Institute) is collaboratively conducting the impact study of PHEV on the distribution systems with power utilities in North America. This study models distribution systems and the charging load of the PHEV using OpenDSS software, and analyzes the impact of PHEV on the distribution systems by assuming various scenarios with different charging time and PHEV types.

In this paper, a new shift map was proposed to improve the fuel economy of a transmission mounted electric device(TMED) type dual clutch transmission(DCT) plug-in hybrid electric vehicle(PHEV) by considering transmission and motor losses. To construct the shift map, powertrain efficiencies of the engine-DCT-motor were obtained at each gear step. A shift map that provides the highest powertrain efficiency was constructed for the given wheel torque and vehicle speed. Simulation results showed that the fuel economy of the target PHEV can be improved by the new shift map compared with the existing engine optimal operating line(OOL) shift control.
Most of domestic expansion joint system was applied by exposed expansion joint system. There are cases where it is damaged by driving. As the result noise and impact happened, and the social cost due to frequent repair works is increasing. So based on the Asphalt Plug Joint(APJ) system that applied in the United States and Europe, new buried expansion joint system was lately developed a system of Buried Folding Lattice Joint(BFLJ) that changed substructure. In this research, we have tested for durability and flexibility performance of buried expansion joint system that based on the type of asphalt mixture. Also we have evaluated for durability of BFLJ system against vehicle load using accelerated pavement testing. As a result of the experiment, the developed BFLJ system gives high flexibility performance and resolves transformation concentration along the joint section more than APJ system. Also it could be seen that the BFLJ system could overcome the disadvantages of APJ and prevent early damage. Because surface deflection of BFLJ system against vehicle load was measured low, and sub system in the buried expansion joint system was not damaged against vehicle load.

The sizable electrical load of plug-in electric vehicles may cause a severe low-voltage problem in a distribution network. The voltage drop in a distribution network can be mitigated by limiting the power consumption of a charging station. Then, the charging station operator needs a method for appropriately distributing the restricted power to all plug-in electric vehicles. The existing approaches have practical limitation in terms of the availability of future information and the execution time. Therefore, this study suggests a heuristic method based on priority indexes for fairly distributing the constrained power to all plug-in electric vehicles. In the proposed method, PEVs are ranked using the priority index, which is determined in real time, such that a near-optimal solution can be obtained within a short computation time. Simulations demonstrate that the proposed method is effective in implementation, although its performance is slightly worse than that of the optimal case.

The development for Eco-friendly cars has been expanded as the concern about environmental pollution and a rise in gas prices. The Electric Vehicle(EV) and Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle(PHEV) are generally connected on distribution power systems to charge the traction batteries. The growing number of EV/PHEVs could have a effect on distribution power systems and result in overload of power utilities and power quality problems. In order to reduce the adverse effect on distribution power systems, the influence of electric vehicle loads should be evaluated. In this paper, the influence of electric vehicle loads is evaluated by using OpenDSS(Open Source Distribution System Simulator) according to the penetration rate of electric vehicle.

Global primary energy demand is projected to increase by 1.7% per year from 2000 to 2030. Almost three-quaters of the increase in demand will come from the transportation sector. Fuel cell hybrid vehicle technology has the potential to significantly reduce energy and harmful emissions, as well as our dependence on foreign oil. In this paper, a systematic and logical methodology is developed and improved mainly to design light duty fuel cell hybrid electric vehicle. We investigated structure and characteristics of light duty FC hybrid vehicle carefully. It can easily be expanded to analyze vehicle-to-grid power connectable plug-in NeHEV. A fuel cell hybrid neighbourhood electric vehicle configuration has been studied in-depth utilizing the proposed methodology.

An educational network system based on CAN protocol internal to a passenger ground vehicle has been developed. The developed network system has been applied to a commercial plug-in electrical vehicle and verified the educational applicability. To apply this in-vehicle network technology based on CAN, a suitable electric vehicle has been chosen and a CAN network structure has been designed, developed and manufactured. Since the commercial electric vehicle chosen as a test bed has its own proprietary electric network, we explain how the original electric network has been utilized and how the new network system has been designed. The developed network system on a real vehicle has been tested to show the applicability and the performance. Finally, the system has been applied at few classrooms to demonstrate how the in-vehicle network system works and to teach how to analyse the CAN signals. The developed system proven to be effective for educational purpose.
