  • Using an atom superposition and electron delocalization molecular orbital (ASED-MO) method, we have compared adsorption properties of adsorbates on the Pt(Ill) surface with the Pt(lll)/γ-Al203 surface in the ethylene hydrogenation reaction. In two-layer thick model systems, the calculated activation energy of the hydrogenation by the surface platinum hydride is equal to the energy by the hydride over supported platinum/γ-alumina. The transition structure on platinum is very close to the structure on the supported platinum/γ-alumina surface. Hydrogenation by the surface hydride on platinum can take place easily because the activation energy is about 0.5 eV less than hydrogenation by ethylidene. On supported platinum/,y-alumina the activation energy of the hydride mechanism is about 0.61 eV less than that of ethylidene mechanism. In one-layer thick model systems, the activation energy of hydrogenation by ethylidene is about 0.13 eV less than the activation energy of hydride reaction. The calculated activation energy by the hydride over the supported platinum y-alumina is 0. 24 eV higher than the platinum surface. We have found from this result that the catalytic properties of one-layer thick model systems have been influenced by the support but the two-layer thick model systems have not been influenced by the support.

  • For the Pt-catalyzed nucleophilic addition of enones, Pt complexes were employed in the presence of various phosphine ligands and $H_2\;(or\;Et_3SiH),$ affording inter- and intra-molecular coupling products in good to modest yield. Depending on reaction protocols, different phosphine ligands were required to optimize the conditions. In the aldol reaction, the Pt catalyst involving $P(2,4,6-(OMe)_3C_6H_2)3\;or\;P(p-OMeC_6H_4)_3$ was chosen. Michael reaction proceeds in good yields in the presence of $P(p-CF_3C_6H_4)_3$. Regarding the activity of the reductants, $H_2$ exhibited superior activity to $Et_3SiH$, resulting in a shorter reaction time and higher yield in the aldol and Michael reaction. In light of the deuterium labeling studies, the catalytic cycle including the hydrometalation of the enones by the platinum hydride species was proposed.

  • Silicone foam is very useful as flame resistant material for many industrial areas such as high performance gasketing, thermal shielding, vibration mounts, and press pads. A silicone foam was prepared through simultaneous crosslinking and foaming by hydrogen condensation reaction of a vinyl-containing polysiloxane (V-silicone) and a hydroxyl-containing polysiloxane (OH-silicone) with hydride containing polysiloxane (H-silicone) in the presence of platinum catalyst and imorganic filler at room temperature. This is more convenient process for silicone foam manufacturing than the conventional separated crosslinking and foaming systems. Funtionalized silicones we used in this experiment were consisted with a V-silicone containing 1,0 meq/g of vinyl groups and a viscosity of 20 Pa-s, an OH-silicone with 0.4 meq/g of hydroxyl groups and a viscosity from 50 Pa-s, and an H-silicone containing 7.5 meq/g of hydride groups and a viscosity of 0.06 Pa.s. The effects of compositions of functionalized silicones and additives, such as catalyst and filler on the structure and mechanical properties of silicone foam were studied. 0.5 wt% of Pt catalyst was enough to accelerate the foaming rate of silicone resins. The addition of OH-silicone with lower viscosity accelerates the initial foaming rate and decreases the foam density, but the addition of V-silicone with lower viscosity reduces the tensile strength as well as the elongation. The final foam density, tensile strength, and elogation of silicone foam prepared under the SF-3 condition increase maximum to $0.58g/cm^3$, $3,51kg_f/cm^2$, and 176 %, repectively. We found out the filler alumina also played an important role to improve the mechanical properties of silicone foams in our foaming system.

  • The intermediate, 17${\alpha}$-methyl-4-aza-5${\alpha}$-androstan-17${\beta}$-ol(Ⅸ) required for the synthesis of 4-(${\beta}$-guanidinoethyl)-17${\alpha}$-methyl-4-aza-5${\alpha}$-androstan-17${\beta}$-ol(V) was obtained through a reaction of 17${\alpha}$-methyl-3,5-seco-4-norandrostan-17${\beta}$-ol-5-on-3-oic acid(VI) with ammonium hydroxide followed by two reductions(platinum dioxide with hydrogen and lithium aluminium hydride). Condensation of Ⅸ with chloroacetonitrile under anhydrous condition, followed by reduction of the nitrile with lithium aluminium hydride gave 4-(${\beta}$-aminoethyl)-17${\alpha}$-methyl-4-aza-5${\alpha}$-androstan-17${\beta}$-ol(XI). The reaction of XI with 2-methyl-2-thiopseudourea or 3,5-dimethylpyrazole-1-carboxamidine, or cyanamide provided the title compound, V. Relaxation of the nictitating membrane, in the absence of mydriasis, is considered to be evidence of adrenergic neurone blockade. Thus the test compound(V) resembles that of the classical adrenergic neurone blocking agents.

  • Silicone rubber is widely used in most industries due to diverse advantages like heat stability, UV stability, durability, chemical resistance, environment friendliness, inertness and so on. But there is limitation to expand applications due to relatively weak rubber strengths such as tensile strength and tear strength, especially in fabric coating applications. The purpose of this study is to find influence of coating agent on performances of rubber and coated fabrics and their correlation according to different crosslinking densities of silicone rubbers. Addition cure type of silicones were formulated using crosslinked MQ-type silicone resin consisting of M (R3SiO1/2) and Q (SiO4/2) and linear polymers. Raw materials used were; 1) linear vinyl endblocked polymers and vinyl functional MQ resin as main polymers, 2) linear silicone hydride polymers as crosslinkers, 3) platinum catalyst and 4) inhibitor to control curing speed. Rubber specimens were prepared to check mechanical strength using universal testing machine (UTM). Crosslinking density was calculated using Flory-Rhener equation using solvent swelling method. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDS) were used to characterize rubbers. Consequently, it was found that physical properties of silicone rubbers and coated fabrics can be expected by crosslinking density of rubbers. Silicone rubber formulations that contain 20 ~ 30 wt% of vinyl MQ resin showed strongest balanced performances.
